CRKL and CK2 <i>β</i>over Expression Are Independent Predictors of Patients Survival in Endometrioid Endometrial Carcinoma

Context: The prognostic significance of expression of V-Crk avian sarcoma virus CT10 oncogene homolog-like (CRKL) and Protein kinase CK2 β in endometroid carcinoma is not fully clarified. Aim: To assess the prognostic values and clinicopathological roles of CRKL and CK2 β expression in endometroid carcinoma by correlation their expression levels with clinicopathological parameters, response to therapy, and recurrence of the tumor and patients survival. Settings: Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, and Mansoura University. Methods: CRKL and CK2 β expressions were evaluated in 50 paraffin blocks EC patients that were followed up for 5 years. The relationship between their level of expressions, clinicopathological criteria and prognosis of patients was analyzed. Statistical analysis used: SPSS 22.0 for windows (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) and MedCalc windows (Software bvba 13, Ostend, Belgium). Results: High expression of CRKL and CK was positively correlated with higher grade of the tumor (p = 0.004 and 0.006 respectively), presence of L.N metastases (p = 0.009 and 0.003 respectively), presence of distant metastases (p = 0.029 and 0.003 respectively) and advanced FIGO stage (p 0.001), poor response to therapy (p = 0.046 and 0.005 respectively), higher incidence of recurrence of the tumor after therapy (p = 0.004 and 0.048 respectively), higher incidence of cancer progression p = 0.018 and 0.044 respectively), poor PFS (p = 0.008 and 0.013 respectively), and OS rates

Monkeypox virus: a worldwide new emerging problem

During May 2022,a total of 237 cases,131 confirmed cases and 106 suspected cases of monkeypox virus have been reported to WHO from many countries that are not endemic for monkeypox virus(MPXV).Epidemiological investigations demonstrated new cases neither had travel history to endemic areas nor direct contact with infected animals,mostly but not totally these new cases within groups of men who have sex with men(MSM)seeking care in primary care and sexual health clinics[1,2].

Clinical Characteristics of Headache in Egyptian Patients with Idiopathic Epilepsy

Purpose: Headache and epilepsy are common neurological disorders and their relationship is still incompletely known. The purpose of our work was to estimate the most common types of primary headache syndromes and its relation to seizure timing in epileptic patients in Upper Egypt. Patients & Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we evaluated headaches in 100 consecutive patients with idiopathic epilepsy attending the neurology outpatient clinic and the epilepsy clinic at Sohag university hospital by complete medical history, physical and neurologic examination EEG and CT brain. Results: Of our study population, 78% of patients with epilepsy reported headaches. Migraine occurred in 70.6% of patients with headache followed by tension-type headache in 25.58% of patients and other types of headaches occurred in 2.56% of patients. There were 8 patients (10.1%) had a pre-ictal headache, 52 patients (66.5%) had a postictal headache and 39 patients (50%) had an interictal headache. In our study, we found that the occurrence of headache being linked to the female sex, lower mean age, lower mean age at the onset of epilepsy, focal epilepsy, longer duration of epilepsy, high frequency of seizures and the use of polytherapy of antiepileptics. Conclusion: Headache especially migraine is an important comorbidity of epilepsy and should receive more attention especially in female patients, patients with younger age, lower mean age at epilepsy onset, longer duration of the disease, patients on polytherapy, patients with higher frequency of seizures and patients with focal epilepsy.

Overview of Child Otological Care at the Reference Health Center of Commune V, Bamako

Aim: To profile the diagnostic and the care provided for otological conditions in children. Method: This was a prospective cross-sectional study carried out from March 1, 2022 to May 30, 2022 at the ENT Unit of the Reference Health Center of Commune V (Bamako). This study concerned the records of children with an otological condition. They were at their first consultation within the unit. The month of March was devoted to recruitment. The follow-up was done until the end of May. The parameters studied included epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects. Results: We identified 184 children suffering from otological conditions out of a total of 559 patients that consulted during March 2022, i.e. an hospital prevalence of 32.9%. This study found ear infections in 60.3%. Earwax and epidermal plugs accounted for 32.60%. Traumatic injuries were 4.3%. Pre-lingual deafness was found in 1.1% of cases. Antibiotics were used for treatment in 66.3% of children without any complications detected. Conclusion: The otological affections of the child were frequent with a predominance of otitis.

Utilization of Amaranth Flour in Preparation of High Nutritional Value Bakery Products

Amaranth has become an unconventional crop that interesting of scientists and researchers due to its unique nutritional properties, in addition to bear the water lack and be suitable for all types of soil. The objective of this study was to utilize amaranth flour in preparation of high nutritional value bakery products, crackers and tortilla produced by using amaranth flour instead of corn flour (w/w) by 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% levels substitution. The prepared products were evaluated for its chemical composition, minerals content, amino acids composition, fatty acid composition, color analysis, biological active compounds analysis and sensory evaluation. Results showed that substitution with amaranth flour increased protein, fat, ash and fiber. As for minerals and amino acid, it indicated that the formula No. 3 (25% corn flour/75% amaranth flour) in crackers and the formula No. 2 (50% corn flour/50% amaranth flour) in tortilla contained higher amount of minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper and phosphorus, and of the essential amino acids such as Leucine, Lysine and valine. On the other hand the formula No. 3 in crackers had the highest unsaturated fatty acids content and lowest of total saturated fatty acids content. While the formula No. 2 in tortilla had the highest saturated fatty acids content and lowest of unsaturated fatty acids content. The results also showed that the incorporation of amaranth flour in the preparation of the crackers and tortilla led to significantly decreased yellowness and lightness compared with control. Also, results indicated that crackers and tortilla which prepared with amaranth flour exhibited higher antioxidant activity than control formulas. Concerning sensory evaluation of crackers, results showed significant decrease in appearance, color and overall acceptability while, tortilla had significant decrease in general appearance, color and total score at all formulas. Origin and Distribution of Heavy Minerals in the Surficial and Subsurficial Sediments of the Alluvial Nile River Terraces

Origin and distribution of the heavy minerals of surficial and subsurficial sediments has been investigated in the alluvial Nile River terraces, Khartoum North, Sudan. Heavy mineral assemblages in the very fine sand fraction (0.063 - 0.125 mm) of 10 sediment samples were identified using petrography microscope. Results of descriptive statistical parameters revealed that most sediments samples belonged within very poorly sorted to extremely poorly sorted, strongly negative skewed to strongly positive skewed and mesokurtic to very leptokurtic. The quartz was the dominant in the opaque minerals in all sediments. The non-opaque heavy minerals were dominant by zircon, tourmaline, rutile, garnet, sillimanite, and andalusite. Results revealed that the ultrastable minerals (zircon, tourmaline and rutile) were found in all sediments with range from (2% - 47.36%, 2.08% - 29% and 3% - 24.99%), respectively. Garnet, sillimanite and andalusite were also found with range from (5% - 67%, 1% - 9.09% and 1% - 50%), respectively. Heavy mineral assemblage indentifies sources that are not bounded to the local origin. The proportion and presence of heavy minerals from outside source rocks indicated relatively strong reworking of zircon sand from the outer-shelf to inner-shelf as well relatively long distance of transport. Fluvial and Aeolian sediments were the dominant environments in the investigated area. We conclude that most heavy minerals in the study area are originally derived from gneisses and schist metamorphic rocks and some igneous rocks of the Ethiopian plateau.

Metakaolin as an Active Pozzolan for Cement That Improves Its Properties and Reduces Its Pollution Hazard

Prepared metakaolin produced by calcination of a kaolin sample at 750°C after soaking for 5 hrs was tested as an active pozzolan for locally produced cement. Blended pastes of partially replaced ordinary Portland cement with different metakaolin amounts 5%, 10% and 15% were prepared, then they were hydrated with water for various time intervals of 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. At each time interval, the hydrated paste specimens were tested for compressive strength, hydration kinetics and followed up using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffractometry analyses and scanning electron microscopy techniques. Results showed that the blended pastes OPC-MK10 recorded the highest compressive strength values at all the hydration times reaching 33.10, 86.40, 101.20, 112, and 122 MPa with increasing the age of hydration as compared with the neat samples which recorded 31.70, 65.20, 72.6, 82 and 101.30 MPa respectively. Meanwhile, the OPC-MK10 blend showed a decrease in the free CaO content reaching 4.07%, 4.27%, 4.23%, 4.19%, and 4.11% CaO with increasing age of hydration compared with the neat samples which recorded 4.27%, 5.15%, 5.42%, 5.61%, and 5.96% CaO respectively. The DSC thermograms results for the hardened neat and OPC-Mk10 pastes at the 14 and 28 hydration days showed the formation of hydrated materials mainly calcium silicate hydrates, calcium sulphoaluminate hydrates and calcium aluminates hydrates. The X-ray diffractometry analyses of both hardened neat and OPC- MK10 showed that, the intensity of calcium hydroxide peaks of OPC-MK10 was lower than in case of neat OPC, while the peak of the hydration products of calcium silicate hydrates and calcium aluminates silicate hydrates of OPC- MK10 samples were of higher intensity than in case of neat OPC. Scanning electron microscopy micrographs indicated the formation of denser micro- structure for the hardened OPC-MK10 paste as compared to neat OPC pastes after the 28 days age of hydration.

Protective Effect of Ketamine against Acetic Acid-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Rats

Objective: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic and recurrent disorders of the gastrointestinal tract with unknown etiology. Considering the adverse effects and incomplete efficacy of currently administered drugs, it is crucial to explore new drugs with more desirable therapeutic profiles. As non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists have shown analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and in vivo, this study aims to investigate the role of ketamine, a noncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist, in acetic acid-induced rat colitis. Methods: Ketamine (10, 50 mg/kg), and dexamethasone (1 mg/kg) were given intraperitoneally 30 min before induction of colitis which was done by instillation of 2 mL of 4% acetic acid (vol/vol). At the 4th day of colitis induction, animals were sacrificed and distal colons were assessed macroscopically and microscopically. Furthermore, the mucosal contents of lipid peroxidation (LPO), reduced glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were assessed. Results: Ketamine (50 mg/kg) and dexamethasone significantly (p α and elevated GSH levels. Conclusion: Our data suggest that ketamine has valuable protective effects in acetic acid colitis and it may be a new therapy target in ulcerative colitis patients, possibly by regulating antioxidants and inflammatory mediators.

Evaluation of photon beam dose calculation accuracy of treatment planning systems using in vivo dosimetry

Dosimetric Comparison of Amorphous Silicon EPID and 2D Array Detector for Pre-Treatment Verification of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Purpose: To study the dosimetric characteristics of amorphous silicon electronic Portal Imaging Device EPID and 2D array detector for dose verification of radiotherapy treatment plans, and the quality assurance QA testing of IMRT was investigated. Materials and methods: All measurements were done with Varian IX linear accelerator, aSi-1000 EPID and 2D array detector. The dose linearity, reproducibility, output factors, dose rate, SDD and response with slap phantom thickness have been measured and compared against those measured by ion chamber. Results: The characteristics of EPID and 2D array: the response of EPID agreed with 2D array and ion chamber 0.6cc. EPID and 2D array showed short-term output reproducibility with SD = 0.1%. The dose rates of 2D array SD = ±0.7%, EPID = ±0.4% compared with a 0.6 cc SD = ±0.5%. Output factor measurements for the central chamber of the EPID and 2D array showed no considerable deviation from ion chamber measurements. Measurement of beam profiles with the EPID and 2D array matched very well with the ion chamber measurements in the water phantom. The EPID is more sensitive to lower energy photons by increasing solid water phantom thickness. The mean and standard deviation passing rates (γ%≤1) for film, 2D array and EPID for 30 IMRT fields of five patients were 95.93 ± 0.96%, 99.05 ± 0.24%, and 99.37 ± 0.12%, respectively. Conclusion: The study shows that EPID and 2D array are a reliable and accurate dosimeter and a useful tool for quality assurance. We found that the EPID was more accurate compared with both 2D array and ion chamber. The gamma criterion of 3%/3 mm is the most suitable criteria for IMRT plans of QA.
