The present work is devoted to the study of broad physiological and ecological characteris- tics of anthropophytic species on the high step- pe lands of the Tlemcen region. The bioclimatic analysis confirms the development of drought in this region with a dominance of spiny and/or toxic asylvatic: plant species of shrub and her- baceous size species. We used correspondence factor analysis (CFA) of the various factors causing degradation to better understand the complexity of this ecosystem, whose floristic composition was complemented by means of soil measurements (spectrum green/ecological spectrum). This analysis allowed us to identify five groups of anthropophytic species with in this highly degraded matorral. We show that this ecosystem is already showing symptoms of de-gradation, and propose a preservation policy for protecting ensuring the survival of native species under threat from human activities.

Of the four national hunting reserves in Algeria, the Mounts of Tlemcen Moutas reserve http://***,characterized by a large area, reliefs and a specific climate, implies significant floristic and faunistic richness. Currently, the coexistence of species, such asQuercus fagineasubsp. tlemcenensis(DC.) M.,Lonicera implexaL., Ruscus aculeatusL., indicates a forest dominant ecological atmosphere, although the region has experienced repeated fires during the 90’s. In this research, a phytoecologicaland syntaxonomical analysis is obvious. More than 300 species have been inventoried and indexed in more than 70 families and this shows the importance of phyto-diversity of the studiedregion. In the analysis of the phyto-ecological parameters, we could notice a regression of the vegetal cover in its diversity.

To establish an assessment of floristic and edaphic characteristics of steppe formations we conducted a phytoecological study on a local scale by comparing the current plant diversity and soil in three (3) stations representative of the vegetation to alfa (Stipa tenacissima L.) located south of Saida (western Algeria). The relations between the station, the vegetation and the characteristics of soils in the steppe are very imperfectly known. This study intends to analyze the relationship between floristic composition and edaphic parameters of the steppe at alfa. Anthropogenic pressures on plant structure are different imbalance resulting in one ecological. The floristic and edaphic data have been the subject of a factorial correspondence analysis (A.F.C). The floristic inventory denotes a regressive dynamics of the formations at alfa passing from one site to another. Thus 39 plant species have been inventoried in the site in good condition, against 26 species for the moderately degraded site and 16 species only for the damaged site. The coupled results between species and edaphic parameters show the relations between the plant diversity and the physico-chemical characteristics of the soils. The statistical analyses do appear a strong correlation between floristic composition, the state of vegetation and the edaphic parameters.

This phyto-ecological study is on halophilic and salt-resistant vegetation of Oran region. The semiarid and sometimes arid climate has been defined and confirmed from a bioclimatic point of view. The pedological approach used shows a soil with sandy to silty-sandy texture, favoring regression of the vegetation and a halophilic vegetation set up. In this study, we analyze the floristic composition of the northern region of Hammam Boughrara using multiple floristic surveys conducted at three stations along the Tafna wadi. Dominated by Mediterranean and Saharo-Sindian elements, the relatively poor flora (88 species in total) is biologically characterized by a clear dominance of therophytes (>33%) and chamaephytes (>19%) to the detriment of phanerophytes.

Phytochemical Screening and Antimicrobial Evaluation of the Aqueous Extracts of Ammoides verticillata, an Endemic Species

Ammoides verticillata (Desf) Briq. is an Algerian endemic species; the phytochemical screening (methods of Harborne, 1973) of the aerials parts wealth in polyphenol compounds: flavonoids, saponins, leucoanthocyanes, terpens and steroids and tannins; there is no alkaloids. There an important quantity of essential oils in the flowers; the interest of this study is that this species remains until then it is not very known. The results of Aromatogram method by incorporation of Muller-Hinton on solid medium, showed a significant antimicrobial activity (method of Duraffourd, 1987) of the infusion and the ethanolic extract; the infusion of stems and flowers is indeed much more active on Echerichia coli, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Staph aureus and Staph epidermidis, such as flowers extracts demonstrate an important antimicrobial activity on Staph aureus, Staph epidermidis, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter recognized as antibiotic resistant. This could give opportunities for using this species in the treatment of diverse infections and as a disinfecting additive on nosocomial area. The valorization, preservation and sustainable use of Ammoides verticillata require the protection of its habitats.

This work was conducted to assess the anatomical features of Pistacia atlantica Desf. under Mediterranean semi-arid climate conditions. In this study, phytoecological approach was used at different observation scales including the large ecological scale. 11 samples of P. atlantica species were randomly selected in order to study the anatomy of leaves and branches. The results show that leaves have palisade parenchyma occupying almost the entire mesophyll, measuring 100 to 170 μm. While in branches, the only pith occupies 38% followed by the xylem (24%), relative to the rest of the tissue (epidermis, periderm, collenchyma, pericyclic fiber, secretory duct and phloem). The current results suggest that P. atlantica species has xeromorphic anatomical characters, giving it great ecological plasticity in an arid environment. Moreover, this study shows that the human activities are causing local extinction of this rare species in Algeria.
