A review on the mechanisms of low salinity water/surfactant/nanoparticles and the potential synergistic application for c-EOR

Chemical enhanced oil recovery(c-EOR)is a conventional and promising strategy to recover oil from reservoir techniques such as low salinity water flooding(LSWF),surfactant flooding,alkaline flooding,polymers flooding,and nanofluid flooding.The use of various types of chemical materials for c-EOR method has recently attracted the attention of the oil and gas industry.The primary objective of this review work is to explore the synergy of low salinity water/surfactant/nanoparticle flooding for effective c-EOR method and investigate the mechanism behind these methods.The advantages of combining these chemical materials for c-EOR methods is also reviewed.Challenges and limitations of this synergy and their economic feasibility for additional oil recovery and potential return on investment are reviewed.Nanoparticles have been successfully used in various applications in several industries and have also shown good application for EOR in terms of wettability alteration.LSWF contributes to wettability alteration,while surfactant contributes to wettability alteration and interfacial tension(IFT)reduction.However,fines migration caused by LSWF and nanoparticle agglomeration can cause formation damage,while excessive surfactant adsorption can lead to cost overrun on surfactant use.Understanding the characteristics of reservoir formation mineralogy and appropriate nanoparticle type,size,and concentration can be used to resolve this challenges.The synergy of LSWF and nanoparticles in alkaline medium can serve as sacrificial agent to reduce excessive surfactant loss.Therefore,the appropriate synergistic formulation of LSFW/surfactant/nanoparticle can improve additional oil recovery and support return on investment for c-EOR projects.

CO_(2) storage in depleted gas reservoirs:A study on the effect of residual gas saturation

Depleted gas reservoirs are recognized as the most promising candidate for carbon dioxide storage.Primary gas production followed by injection of carbon dioxide after depletion is the strategy adopted for secondary gas recovery and storage practices.This strategy,however,depends on the injection strategy,reservoir characteristics and operational parameters.There have been many studies to-date discussing critical factors influencing the storage performance in depleted gas reservoirs while little attention was given to the effect of residual gas.In this paper,an attempt was made to highlight the importance of residual gas on the capacity,injectivity,reservoir pressurization,and trapping mechanisms of storage sites through the use of numerical simulation.The results obtained indicated that the storage performance is proportionally linked to the amount of residual gas in the medium and reservoirs with low residual fluids are a better choice for storage purposes.Therefore,it would be wise to perform the secondary recovery before storage in order to have the least amount of residual gas in the medium.Although the results of this study are useful to screen depleted gas reservoirs for the storage purpose,more studies are required to confirm the finding presented in this paper.

Well selection in depleted oil and gas fields for a safe CO_(2) storage practice: A case study from Malaysia

Carbon capture and sequestration technology is recognized as a successful approach taken to mitigate the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.However,having a successful storage practice requires wise selection of suitable wells in depleted oil or gas fields to reduce the risk of leakage and contamination of subsurface resources.The aim of this paper is to present a guideline which can be followed to provide a better understanding of sophisticated wells chosen for injection and storage practices.Reviewing recent studies carried out on different aspects of geosequestration indicated that the fracture pressure of seals and borehole conditions such as cement-sheath integrity,distance from faults and fractures together with the depth of wells are important parameters,which should be part of the analysis for well selection in depleted reservoirs.A workflow was then designed covering these aspects and it was applied to a depleted gas field in Malaysia.The results obtained indicated that Well B in the field may have the potential of being a suitable conduit for injection.Although more studies are required to consider other aspects of well selections,it is recommended to employ the formation integrity analysis as part of the caprock assessment before making any decisions.

Preliminary assessment of CO_(2) injectivity in carbonate storage sites

Depleted gas reservoirs are used for a large-scale carbon dioxide(CO_(2))storage and reduction of the greenhouse gas released into the atmosphere.To identify a suitable depleted reservoir,it is essential to do a preliminary and comprehensive assessment of key storage factors such as storage capacity,injectivity,trapping mechanisms,and containment.However,there are a limited number of studies providing a preliminary assessment of CO_(2) injectivity potential in depleted gas reservoirs prior to a CO_(2) storage operation.The aim of this study is to provide a preliminary assessment of a gas field located in Malaysia for its storage potential based on subsurface characterization prior to injection.Evaluation of the reservoir interval based on the facies,cores,and wireline log data of a well located in the field indicated that the pore type and fabrics analysis is very beneficial to identify suitable locations for a successful storage practice.Although the results obtained are promising,it is recommended to combine this preliminary assessment with the fluid-mineral interactions analysis before making any judgment about reliability of storage sites.

Advanced Optimized Anomaly Detection System for IoT Cyberattacks Using Artificial Intelligence

While emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things(IoT)have many benefits,they also pose considerable security challenges that require innovative solutions,including those based on artificial intelligence(AI),given that these techniques are increasingly being used by malicious actors to compromise IoT systems.Although an ample body of research focusing on conventional AI methods exists,there is a paucity of studies related to advanced statistical and optimization approaches aimed at enhancing security measures.To contribute to this nascent research stream,a novel AI-driven security system denoted as“AI2AI”is presented in this work.AI2AI employs AI techniques to enhance the performance and optimize security mechanisms within the IoT framework.We also introduce the Genetic Algorithm Anomaly Detection and Prevention Deep Neural Networks(GAADPSDNN)sys-tem that can be implemented to effectively identify,detect,and prevent cyberattacks targeting IoT devices.Notably,this system demonstrates adaptability to both federated and centralized learning environments,accommodating a wide array of IoT devices.Our evaluation of the GAADPSDNN system using the recently complied WUSTL-IIoT and Edge-IIoT datasets underscores its efficacy.Achieving an impressive overall accuracy of 98.18%on the Edge-IIoT dataset,the GAADPSDNN outperforms the standard deep neural network(DNN)classifier with 94.11%accuracy.Furthermore,with the proposed enhancements,the accuracy of the unoptimized random forest classifier(80.89%)is improved to 93.51%,while the overall accuracy(98.18%)surpasses the results(93.91%,94.67%,94.94%,and 94.96%)achieved when alternative systems based on diverse optimization techniques and the same dataset are employed.The proposed optimization techniques increase the effectiveness of the anomaly detection system by efficiently achieving high accuracy and reducing the computational load on IoT devices through the adaptive selection of active features.

BACKGROUND Mycobacterium tuberculosis(TB)is the causative agent of TB,a chronic granulo-matous illness.This disease is prevalent in low-income countries,posing a significant global health challenge.Gastrointestinal TB is one of the three forms.The disease can mimic other intra-abdominal conditions,leading to delayed diagnosis owing to the absence of specific symptoms.While gastric outlet obs-truction(GOO)remains a frequent complication,its incidence has declined with the advent of proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy.Gastroduodenal TB can cause upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage,obstruction,and malignancy-like tumors.CASE SUMMARY A 23-year-old male presented with recurrent epigastric pain,distension,nausea,vomiting,and weight loss,prompting a referral to a gastroenterologist clinic.Endoscopic examination revealed distorted gastric mucosa and signs of chronic inflammation.However,treatment was interrupted,possibly owing to vomiting or comorbidities such as human immunodeficiency virus infection or diabetes.Subsequent surgical intervention revealed a dilated stomach and diffuse thickening of the duodenal wall.Resection revealed gastric wall effacement with TB.CONCLUSION Primary gastric TB is rare,frequently leading to GOO.Given its rarity,suspicions should be promptly raised when encountering relevant symptoms,often requiring surgical intervention for diagnosis and treatment.

Enhancing Renewable Energy Integration:A Gaussian-Bare-Bones Levy Cheetah Optimization Approach to Optimal Power Flow in Electrical Networks

In the contemporary era,the global expansion of electrical grids is propelled by various renewable energy sources(RESs).Efficient integration of stochastic RESs and optimal power flow(OPF)management are critical for network optimization.This study introduces an innovative solution,the Gaussian Bare-Bones Levy Cheetah Optimizer(GBBLCO),addressing OPF challenges in power generation systems with stochastic RESs.The primary objective is to minimize the total operating costs of RESs,considering four functions:overall operating costs,voltage deviation management,emissions reduction,voltage stability index(VSI)and power loss mitigation.Additionally,a carbon tax is included in the objective function to reduce carbon emissions.Thorough scrutiny,using modified IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems,validates GBBLCO’s superior performance in achieving optimal solutions.Simulation results demonstrate GBBLCO’s efficacy in six optimization scenarios:total cost with valve point effects,total cost with emission and carbon tax,total cost with prohibited operating zones,active power loss optimization,voltage deviation optimization and enhancing voltage stability index(VSI).GBBLCO outperforms conventional techniques in each scenario,showcasing rapid convergence and superior solution quality.Notably,GBBLCO navigates complexities introduced by valve point effects,adapts to environmental constraints,optimizes costs while considering prohibited operating zones,minimizes active power losses,and optimizes voltage deviation by enhancing the voltage stability index(VSI)effectively.This research significantly contributes to advancing OPF,emphasizing GBBLCO’s improved global search capabilities and ability to address challenges related to local minima.GBBLCO emerges as a versatile and robust optimization tool for diverse challenges in power systems,offering a promising solution for the evolving needs of renewable energy-integrated power grids.

采用机械涂层技术在Ti-6Al-4V基体表面沉积HA/Ti复合涂层与功能梯度涂层(FGC),对涂层进行表征,对比其磨损行为和生物相容性。制备复合涂层所用初始粉末为50%Ti(质量分数)和50%HA(质量分数)的混合粉末,而FGC分为两层,分别为75%Ti+25%HA和25%Ti+75%HA(质量分数)。XRD结果表明在沉积过程中没有发生相变。此外,由于原始混合粉末中存在Ti颗粒,在涂层和基体之间形成了结合良好的连续界面,特别是在功能梯度涂层样品中。磨损实验结果显示,非梯度复合涂层的摩擦因数约为0.37,在界面处发生突变,而功能梯度涂层的摩擦因数从0.32增加到0.5,在界面处发生平缓变化。磨损表面的SEM像表明涂层的主要磨损机制为磨粒磨损。生物相容性评价结果显示,FGC样品具有更好的细胞黏附和增殖能力。

Estimation of monthly global solar radiation over twelve major cities of Libya

This study aims to estimate monthly averaged daily horizontal global solar radiation.Measured climatological data collected at twelve major cities located across Libya’s map were used to establish 7 different empirical models.The empirical coefficients of the models were calculated using the least square method.The accuracy of the models was evaluated using different statistical criteria such as Taylor diagram,mean absolute percentage error,MAPE,and root mean square error,RMSE.The results indicated that the sunshine duration-based models are more accurate than air temperature-based models,and the best performance was obtained by the quadratic regression model for all twelve Libyan cities.Moreover,this regression model can be used for the prediction of monthly mean horizontal global solar radiation at a specific site across Libya’s regions with minimum error.Furthermore,the results of the global solar irradiance produced by this method can be used for designing solar systems applications.

Standardization of meibomian gland dysfunction in an Egyptian population sample using a non-contact meibography technique

AIM:To develop normative data for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)parameters,using non-contact meibography technique of Sirius Costruzione Strumenti Oftalmici(CSO)machine,in an Egyptian population sample.METHODS:Observational,cross-sectional,analytic study,in which 104 Egyptian volunteers were included.Both upper lids were examined,using“Sirius CSO”machine.Each eyelid was given a degree of meibomian gland loss(MGL),which was calculated by the software of the machine.RESULTS:Mean percentage MGL in right upper lid was of 30.9%±12.6%,and that of left upper lid was 32.6%±11.8%.Thirty-four volunteers(32.7%)had first-degree MGL in their right upper lid,and 67.3%had second-degree loss.One volunteer(1%)had zero-degree MGL in left upper lid,28(26.9%)had first-degree loss,and 75(72.1%)had second-degree loss.Degree of MGL in right upper eyelid was not related to age,but degree of MGL in left upper eyelid increased with age.There was statistically significant difference between both genders for degree of MGL in right eye(P=0.036)and in left eye(P=0.027).CONCLUSION:Noncontact meibography is a useful non-invasive tool for diagnosing MGL.MGL is diagnosed in 100%of apparently normal individuals;26.9%-32.7%of which have first-degree MGL,and 67.3%-72.1%have second-degree MGL.
