The optimum delivery of safeguarding substances is a major part of supply chain management and a crucial issue in the mitigation against the outbreak of pandemics.A problem arises for a decision maker who wants to optimally choose a subset of candidate consumers to maximize the distributed quantities of the needed safeguarding substances within a specic time period.A nonlinear binary mathematical programming model for the problem is *** decision variables are binary ones that represent whether to choose a specic consumer,and design constraints are formulated to keep track of the chosen *** better illustrate the problem,objective,and problem constraints,a real application case study is *** case study involves the optimum delivery of safeguarding substances to several hospitals in the Al-Gharbia Governorate in *** hospitals are selected to represent the consumers of safeguarding substances,as they are the rst crucial frontline for mitigation against a pandemic outbreak.A distribution truck is used to distribute the substances from the main store to the hospitals in specied required quantities during a given working *** objective function is formulated in order to maximize the total amount of delivered quantities during the specied time *** case study is solved using a novel Discrete Binary Gaining Sharing Knowledge-based Optimization algorithm(DBGSK),which involves two main stages:discrete binary junior and senior gaining and sharing *** has the ability of nding the solutions of the introduced problem,and the obtained results demonstrate robustness and convergence toward the optimal solutions.

The need to maintain high rice yields and improve fertilizer nitrogen(N)-use efficiency has fueled the use of tools such as leaf colour chart(LCC) and chlorophyll meter(SPAD meter) in managing fertilizer N based on colour of the leaf. Field experiments were conducted during 2011 to 2013 at Ludhiana, India to assess the need for basal N application and to establish critical threshold values of leaf greenness as measured by LCC and SPAD meter for formulating strategies for in-season management of fertilizer N in dry direct-seeded rice(DDSR). Avoiding application of N at sowing did not adversely affect rice grain yield, indicating that basal N application in DDSR was not necessary and might lead to reduced N-use efficiency. Monitoring N uptake rate during the growing season of DDSR suggested that N uptake rate peaked at the two growth stages: maximum tillering(42 to 56 days after sowing(DAS))and panicle initiation stages(70 to 84 DAS). Using the Cate-Nelson procedure, critical LCC and SPAD meter values for fertilizer N application worked out to be 4 and 37, respectively. Real-time fertilizer N management strategy based on applying 30 kg N ha-1whenever SPAD meter or LCC readings fell below the critical values maintained optimum rice yields along with higher N-use efficiency than that observed by following blanket recommendation for fertilizer N in the region. The fixed-time variable-dose strategy consisted of applying prescriptive doses of 20 kg N ha-1at 14 DAS and 30 kg N ha-1at 28 DAS and corrective doses of 30, 40 or 50 kg N ha-1at 49 and 70 DAS depending upon LCC shade to be ≥ 4, 4–3.5, or < 3.5 and SPAD meter readings to be ≥ 40, 40–35, or< 35, respectively. This strategy also resulted in optimal rice yield along with higher N-use efficiency as compared to the blanket recommendation. This study revealed that in DDSR, fertilizer N could be managed more efficiently using the tools of LCC and SPAD meter than the current blanket recommendation.

Climatic and anthropogenic impacts on the decrease of sediment discharge to the Mediterranean coast from the largest river of Maghreb

The current study focuses on the issue of the decrease in sediment discharge to the Mediterranean Sea by the largest river in Algeria, the Wadi Cheliff(i.e. Cheliff River). This study clarifies the effect of climatic and anthropogenic factors on the changes in the sedimentary dynamics of the Cheliff River discharging to the sea. The data used(rainfall, water discharge, and sediment discharge) concern the Sidi Bel Attar gaging station on the Cheliff River, only 18 km from discharge to the Mediterranean Sea. A power-type statistical regression model was used to fill the 74.2% gap in Suspended Solids(SS) measurements in the establishment of a SS database for the period 1951 e2012. The study results show that the transport of suspended sediment discharged to the sea is about 487 t/km2/yr. Statistical tests of breaks highlight that rainfall decreased by 26% and that water and sediment input to the sea declined from 74% to 63% for the period of 1981 e2012. The correlation analysis shows a decrease in the contribution of rainfall on sediment and water input at the outlet equal to 77.9% and 77.8%, respectively, during the period of 1980 e2012, compared to the period of 1968 e1980. However, the double mass method reflects the contribution of factors other than rainfall to the decrease of sediment input to the sea. These other factors mainly include large dams, which intercepted about 71% of the total volume of sediment discharged to the sea during the period of 1968 e2010. In addition the contribution of large dams to the reduction of sedimentary input to the sea is more important than that of the decrease in rainfall. The management of large dams also contributes to the increase in the sediment deficit to the sea through the prioritization of interception of sediment at the expense of releases, for socio-economic purposes, 68.4% of the Cheliff River discharge is diverted for human use. This paper presents a novel application of metaheuristic algorithmsfor solving stochastic programming problems using a recently developed gaining sharing knowledge based optimization (GSK) algorithm. The algorithmis based on human behavior in which people gain and share their knowledgewith others. Different types of stochastic fractional programming problemsare considered in this study. The augmented Lagrangian method (ALM)is used to handle these constrained optimization problems by convertingthem into unconstrained optimization problems. Three examples from theliterature are considered and transformed into their deterministic form usingthe chance-constrained technique. The transformed problems are solved usingGSK algorithm and the results are compared with eight other state-of-the-artmetaheuristic algorithms. The obtained results are also compared with theoptimal global solution and the results quoted in the literature. To investigatethe performance of the GSK algorithm on a real-world problem, a solidstochastic fixed charge transportation problem is examined, in which theparameters of the problem are considered as random variables. The obtainedresults show that the GSK algorithm outperforms other algorithms in termsof convergence, robustness, computational time, and quality of obtainedsolutions.

Transient cavities generated from unsteady leading-edge cavitation may undergo aggressive collapses which are responsible for cavitation *** this paper,we studied the hydrodynamic mechanisms of these events in the leading edge cavitation fonned over a modified NACA0009 hydrofoil using experimental and numerical *** the experimental investigation,high-speed visualization(HSV)and paint test are employed to study the behavior of the cavitating flow at σ=1.25,α=5°,U∞=20 m/*** the numerical part,the same cavitating flow is simulated using an inviscid density-based compressible solver with a barotropic cavitation *** numerical results are first compared with the experimental HSV to show that the simulation is able to reproduce the main features of the cavitating ***,as the compressible solver is capable of capturing the shock wave upon the collapse of cavities,the location of collapse events with high erosion potential are *** location of these collapse events are compared with the paint test results with a qualitatively good *** is clearly observed,in both the experiments and the numerical simulation,that there exists four distinct regions along the hydrofoil with higher risks of erosion:(1)A very narrow strip at the leading edge,(2)an area of accumulated collapses at around 60 percent of the sheet cavity maximum length,(3)an area around the closure line of the sheet cavity with the highest erosion damage,and(4)a wide area close to the trailing edge with dispersed collapse events.A combined analysis of the experimental and numerical results reveals that the small-scale structures generated by secondary shedding are more aggressive than the large-scale cloud cavities(primary shedding).It is also observed that the high risk of cavitation erosion in regions 2 and 3 is mainly due to the collapses of the small cavity structures that are formed around the sheet cavity closure line or the rolling cloud cavity.

Predictors of renal angioembolization outcome:A retrospective analysis with 148 patients at a tertiary urology institute

Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictor of unsuccessful outcome of renal angioembolization(RAE).Knowing those predictors may help in avoiding unnecessary RAE procedures and their associated side effects,while helping to prepare for an alternate procedure and improving patient's overall ***:A retrospective analysis between January 2006 and December 2018 was performed,and the indications for RAE were classified into post-traumatic,iatrogenic,renal tumors,and *** who underwent RAE prior to nephrectomy were *** tomography angiography was performed in patients with normal renal function and those who had no contrast allergy,otherwise magnetic resonance angiography was *** the purpose of statistical analysis,we stratified patients into two main categories based on the final outcome—successful or ***:Of 180 patients,32 with negative angiography were eliminated,leaving 148 patients;136(91%)had successful outcomes after one or more trials and 12 had unsuccessful *** mean age was 45±15 years,and 105(71%)were *** gender,side of the lesion,presence of hematuria,indication for RAE,nor the type of lesion affected the *** the other hand,renal anatomy with presence of accessory artery was the only predictor to failed RAE(p=0.001).Failed RAE trial was a predictor for nephrectomy as a secondary procedure(p=0.03).Conclusion:No pre-procedural predictors could anticipate the RAE outcome,and different indications can be scheduled to RAE,which is equally *** presence of accessory renal artery on diagnostic angiography is the only factor that may predict the failure of the procedure.
