Generalized Attack Model for Networked Control Systems, Evaluation of Control Methods

Networked Control Systems (NCSs) have been implemented in several different industries. The integration with advanced communication networks and computing techniques allows for the enhancement of efficiency of industrial control systems. Despite all the advantages that NCSs bring to industry, they remain at risk to a spectrum of physical and cyber-attacks. In this paper, we elaborate on security vulnerabilities of NCSs, and examine how these vulnerabilities may be exploited when attacks occur. A general model of NCS designed with three different controllers, i.e., proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers, Model Predictive control (MPC) and Emotional Learning Controller (ELC) are studied. Then three different types of attacks are applied to evaluate the system performance. For the case study, a networked pacemaker system using the Zeeman nonlinear heart model (ZHM) as the plant combined with the above-mentioned controllers to test the system performance when under attacks. The results show that with Emotional Learning Controller (ELC), the pacemaker is able to track the ECG signal with high fidelity even under different attack scenarios.

A Novel Technique for Detection of Time Delay Switch Attack on Load Frequency Control

In this paper, we focus on the estimation of time delays caused by adversaries in the sensing loop (SL). Based on the literature review, time delay switch (TDS) attacks could make any control system, in particular a power control system, unstable. Therefore, future smart grids will have to use advanced methods to provide better situational awareness of power grid states keeping smart grids reliable and safe from TDS attacks. Here, we introduce a simple method for preventing time delay switch attack on networked control systems. The method relies on an estimator that will estimate and track time delays introduced by an adversary. Knowing the maximum tolerable time delay of the plant’s optimal controller for which the plant remains stable, a time-delay detector issues an alarm signal when the estimated time delay is larger than the minimum one and directs the system to alarm state. In an alarm state, the plant operates under the control of an emergency controller that is local to the plant and remains in this mode until the networked control system state is restored. This method is an inexpensive and simple way to guarantee that an industrial control system remains stable and secure.

Interfacial charge transfer and photocatalytic activity in a reverse designed Bi_(2)O_(3)/TiO_(2)core-shell

In this study,the electronic and photocatalytic properties of core-shell heterojunctions photocatalysts with reversible configuration of TiO_(2)and Bi_(2)O_(3)layers were *** core-shell nanostructure,obtained by efficient control of the sol-gel polymerization and impregnation method of variable precursors of semiconductors,makes it possible to study selectively the role of the interfacial charge transfer in each *** morphological,optical,and chemical composition of the core-shell nanostructures were characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy,UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron *** results show the formation of homogenous TiO_(2)anatase and Bi_(2)O_(3)layers with a thickness of around 10 and 8 nm,*** interfacial charge carrier dynamic was tracked using time resolved microwave conductivity and transition photocurrent *** charge transfer,their density,and lifetime were found to rely on the layout layers in the core-shell *** optimal core-shell design,Bi_(2)O_(3)collects holes from TiO_(2),leaving electrons free to react and increase by 5 times the photocatalytic efficiency toward H2 *** study provides new insight into the importance of the design and elaboration of optimal heterojunction based on the photocatalyst system to improve the photocatalytic activity.

Wastewater Treatment of a Cardboard Manufacturing Plant by Infiltration Percolation

Different coastal sands of the city of El Jadida are used to filter wastewater from a cardboard manufacturing plant combined with fly ash and bottom ash （by-products of a local power plant）. The performances of five matrices of these elements are compared in infiltration-percolation in vertical columns. The study of particle size sand is performed beforehand. The chemical and mineralogical composition of fly ash and bottom ash are produced by X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction respectively. The wastewater samples were collected during a complete cycle of production of the cardboard. The heavy metals content before and after filtration was obtained by atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma （ICP-AES）. The parameters analyzed were： total suspended solids （TSS）, organic matter COD, BODs, the potential hydrogen pH and heavy metals （iron, zinc and arsenic）. The results are very conclusive and respect the essence of control required by Moroccan regulations （law 1606-06） related to discharges from the papermaking and cardboard industry.

Simulink Behavioral Modeling of a 10-bit Pipelined ADC

The increasing architecture complexity of data converters makes it necessary to use behavioral models to simulate their electrical performance and to determine their relevant data features. For this purpose, a specific data converter simulation environment has been developed which allows designers to perform time-domain behavioral simulations of pipelined analog to digital converters （ADCs）. All the necessary blocks of this specific simulation environment have been implemented using the popular Matlab simulink environment. The purpose of this paper is to present the behavioral models of these blocks taking into account most of the pipelined ADC non-idealities, such as sampling jitter, noise, and operational amplifier parameters （white noise, finite DC gain, finite bandwidth, slew rate, and saturation voltages）. Simulations, using a 10-bit pipelined ADC as a design example, show that in addition to the limits analysis and the electrical features extraction, designers can determine the specifications of the basic blocks in order to meet the given data converter requirements.

Mixed Convection Heat Transfer for Nanofluids in a Lid-Driven Shallow Rectangular Cavity Uniformly Heated and Cooled from the Vertical Sides:The Opposing Case

An investigation on flow and heat transfer due to mixed convection, in a lid-driven rectangular cavity filled with Cu- water nanofluids and submitted to uniform heat flux along with its vertical short sides, has been conducted numerically by solving the full governing equations with the finite volume method and the SIMPLER algorithm. In the case of a slender enclosure, these equations are considerably reduced by using the parallel flow concept. Solutions, for the flow and temperature fields, and the heat transfer rate, have been obtained depending on the governing parameters, which are the Reynolds, the Richardson numbers and the solid volume fraction of nanoparticles. A perfect agreement has been found between the results of the two approaches for a wide range of the abovementioned parameters. It has been shown that at low and high Richardson numbers, the convection is ensured by lid and buoyancy-driven effects, respectively, whereas between these extremes, both mechanisms compete. Moreover, the addition of Cu-nanoparticles, into the pure water, has been seen enhancing and degrading heat transfer by lid and buoyancy-driven effects, respectively.

Phytochemical Screening and Antimicrobial Evaluation of the Aqueous Extracts of Ammoides verticillata, an Endemic Species

Ammoides verticillata （Desf.） Briq. is an Algerian endemic species; the phytochemical screening （methods of Harborne, 1973） of the aerials parts wealth in polyphenol compounds： flavonoids, saponins, leucoanthocyanes, terpens and steroids and tannins; there is no alkaloids. There is an important quantity of essential oils in the flowers; the interest of this study is that this species remains until then it is not very known. The results of Aromatogram method by incorporation of Mtiller-Hinton on solid medium, showed a significant antimicrobial activity （method of Duraffourd, 1987） of the infusion and the ethanolic extract; the infusion of stems and flowers is indeed much more active on Echerichia coli, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Staph aureus and Staph epidermidis, such as flowers extracts demonstrate an important antimicrobial activity on Staph aureus, Staph epidermidis, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter recognized as antibiotic resistant. This could give opportunities for using this species in the treatment of diverse infections and as a disinfecting additive on nosocomial area. The valorization, preservation and sustainable use ofAmmoides verticillata require the protection of its habitats.

Computational Analysis of Nanofluid Mixed Convection in a Ventilated Enclosure with Linearly Varying Wall Temperature

The characteristic of flow and heat transfer of A12Oa-water nanofluids flowing through a horizontal ventilated cavity is investigated numerically. The bottom wall is subjected to a linearly varying increasing heating temperature profile, whereas the other boundaries are assumed to be thermally insulated. The enclosure is cooled by an injected or sucked imposed flow. The simulations are focused specifically on the effects of different key parameters such as Reynolds number, 200 〈 Re 〈 5,000, nanoparticles concentration, 0 〈 φ 〈 0.1, and mode of imposed flow, on the flow and thermal patterns and heat transfer performances. The findings demonstrate clearly the positive role of the nanoparticles addition on the improvement of the heat transfer rate and the mean temperature within the cavity. Also, the results presented show that, the suction mode is more favorable to the heat transfer in comparison with the case of the injection mode. The cooling efficiency is found to be more pronounced by applying the suction mode.

Effect of Sinusoidal Heating on Natural Convection Coupled to Thermal Radiation in a Square Cavity Subjected to Cross Temperature Gradients

Coupled natural convection and surface radiation within a square cavity, filled with air and submitted to discrete heating and cooling from all its walls, is studied numerically. The thermally active elements are centrally located on the walls of the cavity. Two heating modes, called SB and SV, are considered. They correspond to bottom and vertical left elements sinusoidally heated in time, respectively, while the top and vertical right ones are constantly cooled. The remaining portions of all the walls are considered adiabatic. The parameters governing the problem are the amplitude and the period of the temporally sinusoidal temperature, the emissivity of the walls , the relative lengths of the active elements and the Rayleigh number . The effect of such parameters on flow and thermal fields and the resulting heat transfer is examined. It is shown that, during a flow cycle, the flow structure can present complex behavior, depending on the emissivity and the amplitude and period of the exciting temperature. The rate of heat transfer is generally enhanced in the case of sinusoidal heating. Also, the resonance phenomenon existence, characterized by maximum fluctuations in flow intensity and heat transfer, is proved in this study.
