Aim:Studies of clinical outcomes in ch.onic h.patitis C(Ch.)patients with.pretreatment advanced liver fibrosis(F3)after sustained virologic response(SVR)are scarce,and most studies are of small coh.rts and retrospective in *** aim was to assess th. clinical outcomes following direct acting antiviral(DAA)treatment among h.patitis C F3 patients after ***:Th.s study included 1517 ch.onic h.patitis C patients with.F3 fibrosis receiving DAAs in th. out-patient clinics at th. Egyptian Liver Research.Institute and h.spital(ELRIAh..We included patients 18 years or older with.h.V wh. received DAAs,h.ve F3 by transient elastograph.,and h.ve no h.story of h.patocellular carcinoma(h.C).Patients were followed up every six month. after end of treatment using ultrasonograph. and ***:Significant improvement of fibrosis occurred with.decreases in LSM,FIB-4,APRI,and *** ch.nges in LSM were categorized depending on delta LSM,873 patients(57.5%)sh.wed regression,454(29.9%)were stable,and 190 patients(12.5%)sh.wed progression of ***,33 cases developed h.C during follow-up with.incidence rate of 0.915/100 py(95%CI:0.64-1.27).Incidence was h.gh.with.progression of liver fibrosis(6.17/100 py)compared to patients with.stable fibrosis(1.09/100 py)and regression of liver fibrosis(0.75/100 py).Th.re were no significant differences as regards fibrosis indicators at baseline(LSM,FIB-4,APRI,and FIB-6)between th.se wh. developed h.C and th.se wh. did ***:Ch. Patients with.F3 fibrosis sh.wed a h.gh.rate of regression of fibrosis and decreased h.C incidence after ach.eving SVR following DAAs.

h.rein, th. fabrication of cellulose acetate (CA) silica-based nanocomposite membranes via th. dry-wetph.se inversion procedure for water desalination was investigated. Th. modified and unmodified silicananoparticles (MSNPs and SNPs) were prepared by th. sol-gel tech.ique. Th. effect of th. SNPs andMSNPs was investigated on th. CA membrane's properties and th.ir performance for water *** CA nanocomposite membranes were ch.racterized to study th.ir structure, h.droph.licity, andmorph.logy. Th. fabricated nanocomposite membranes sh.wed h.droph.lic surface properties. Th.performance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was measured using a crossflow RO unit at 10 bar(1 bar = 0.1 MPa). Th. membrane with.10 mg of SNPs enh.nced permeate water flux compared to th.pristine CA membrane by 1.6 L/(m2·h.. Th. effect of MSNPs on th. nanocomposites' performance waslower th.n th.ir counterpart in th. case of adding SNPs. Th. membrane with.30 mg of MSNPs sh.wedth. h.gh.st permeate water flux among oth.r nanocomposite membranes with.a value oAQSf 35.7 L/(m2·h.at 24 bar.

Performance of th. Aluminide Coating of SomeLow Alloy Steels

Two low alloy steels 0.5Cr-0.5Mo-0.25V and h.5 were pack-aluminized at 900°for 4 h.by using Fe-Al powder mixture containing 48% Fe, 20.6% Al- 29.4% Al2O3 and 2% Nh.Cl by weigh.. Th. microh.rdness and oxidation resistance at 900℃ of th. aluminide coatings were studied. It was found th.t pack-aluminizing improves th. microh.rdness of th. 0.5Cro.5Mo-0.25V steel wh.le it reduces th. microh.rdness of th. h.5 steel. Pack aluminizing h.gh.y improves th. oxidation resistance after 20h.exposure at 900℃ in air for th. investigated steels.

A series of NixCo1-xCo2O4(0 ≤ x ≤ 1) spinel catalysts were prepared by th. co-precipitation meth.d and used for direct N2O decomposition. Th. decomposition path.ay of th. parent precipitates was ch.racterized by th.rmal analysis. Th. catalysts were calcined at 500 °C for 3 h.and ch.racterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, and N2 adsorption-desorption. Nickel cobaltite spinel was formed in th. solid state reaction between NiO and Co3O4. Th. N2O decomposition measurement revealed significant increase in th. activity of Co3O4 spinel oxide catalyst with.th. partial replacement of Co2+ by Ni2+. Th. activity of th.s series of catalysts was controlled by th. degree of Co2+ substitution by Ni2+, spinel crystallite size, catalyst surface area, presence of residual K+, and calcination temperature.

Protective Effects of Estradiol on Myocardial Contractile Function Following h.morrh.gic Sh.ck and Resuscitation in Rats

Background： h.morrh.gic sh.ck （h.） results in myocardial contractile dysfunction. Studies sh.wed th.t 17β-estradiol protects th. myocardium against contractile dysfunction. Th. study investigated th. cardioprotective effects of treatment with.17β-estradiol before resuscitation following 1 h.of h. and resuscitation. Meth.ds： Male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to 2 sets of experimental protocols： Ex vivo and in vivo treatment and resuscitation. Each.set h.d th.ee experimental groups （n = 6 per group）： Normotensive （N）, h. and resuscitation （h.-R） and h. rats treated with.17β-estradiol （E） and resuscitated （h.-E-R）. Rats were h.morrh.ged over 60-rain to reach.a mean arterial blood pressure of 40 mmh.. In th. ex vivo group, h.arts were resuscitated by perfusion in th. Langendorff system. In th. 17β-estradiol treated group, 17β-estradiol 280 μg/kg was added for th. first 5 min. Cardiac function was measured. Left ventricular generated pressure （LVGP） and ＋dP/dt were calculated. In th. in vivo group, rats were treated with.17β-estradiol 280 ±g/kg s.c. after 60-rain h.. Resuscitation was performed in vivo by th. reinfusion of th. sh.d blood for 30-min to restore normotension. Results： Treatment with.17β-estradiol before resuscitation in ex vivo treated and resuscitated isolated h.arts and in th. in vivo treated and resuscitated rats following h. improved myocardial contractile function. In th. in vivo treated group, LVGP and ＋dP/dt max were significantly h.gh.r in 17β-estradiol treated rats compared to th. untreated group （LVGP 136.40 ± 6.61 compared to 47.58 ± 17.55, and ＋dP/dt 661.85 ± 49.88 compared to 88.18 ± 0.85）. Treatment with.17β-estradiol improved LVGP following h.. Conclusions： Th. results indicate th.t treatment with.17β-estradiol before resuscitation following h. protects th. myocardium against dysfunction.

Th. Role of Laparoscopy and Laparoscopic Ultrasound in Staging and in Palliation of Upper Gastro-Intestinal Malignancies: Th. Egyptian National Cancer Institute Experience

Background: Surgical resection of upper gastrointestinal malignancies occasionally carries substantial morbidity due to inaccurate pre-operative staging. Th. potential to prevent needless laparotomy by means of precise staging is th. pouring force beh.nd th. use of diagnostic laparoscopy (DL). Objective: To assess th. role of laparoscopy and laparoscopic ultrasound (LUS) in proper staging of upper gastro intestinal malignancies, and in potential palliation in advanced cases for pain (by neurolytic celiac plexus block) or gastric outlet obstruction (by laparoscopic bypass surgery). Study design: In th.s prospective study, 62 patients with.lower esoph.geal, gastric and peri-pancreatic carcinomas were joined after written informed consent. All patients were examined with.laparoscopy and LUS with.th. h.lp of frozen section analysis to any doubtful metastatic site, peritoneal fluid and ascitic fluid analysis. Results: DL h.lped us to avoid needless laparotomy in 22.5% of patients, reducing its post-operative complications, h.spital stay and cost. DL also h.lped us to do palliative management eith.r in th. form of gastric bypass or laparoscopic celiac plexus block. Conclusion: we praise th. use of DL as a safe, effective and complimentary meth.d to th. oth.r routine imaging modalities, in proper staging and palliation for upper gastrointestinal malignancies.

Steady State Analysis of a Doubly Fed Induction Generator

In th.s paper, we present th. steady state analysis of a double-fed induction generator (DFIG) adopted for wind power generation. Th. th.ee-ph.se induction mach.ne connected to th. network, to work as a generator for wind farms, is excited on th. rotor circuit by a slip-frequency current injected to th. rotor, from an exciter mounted on th. same sh.ft of th. mach.ne. Th. resulting rotating magnetic field rotates at synch.onous speed;as such.th. generated power h.s a constant frequency independent of th. sh.ft speed. Effects of th. excitation voltage magnitude and ph.se angle on th. active and reactive power are studied, wh.n th. mach.ne runs at constant speed. It h.s been sh.wn th.t by controlling th. excitation voltage magnitude and ph.se angle would control th. mode of operation of th. mach.ne;motor mode or generator mode. Furth.rmore, th. effects of th. sh.ft speed on th. active and reactive power at constant excitation voltage magnitude and constant ph.se angle are also investigated.
