Risk factors and prognosis of pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Egypt:a university hospital based study

AIM:To study and compare the predisposing factors and clinical features of pediatric,adult,and elderly rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD).METHODS:This is an observational analytic crosssectional study in which patients with RRD admitted for surgery during 6mo period were divided into 3 age groups:pediatric(60y).Patients’demographic data,clinical features,RRD predisposing factors/features including myopia(axial length≥26.5 mm),aphakia/pseudophakia,blunt trauma,peripheral retinal degenerations,history of RRD in the fellow eye,and surgical interventions/findings were recorded and ***:Totally 142 patients(142 eyes)were studied:26(18.31%)pediatrics,86(60.56%)adults,and 30(21.13%)*** patients had a significantly higher intraocular pressures and cataracts compared to the other 2 groups(P=0.04).The RRD extent was larger in pediatric group(mostly 4 quadrants)compared to adults and elderly(mostly 2 quadrants),but it was not statistically insignificant(P=0.242).There were not statistically significantly differences in proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR)rate,posterior vitreous detachment(PVD)rate,number,site,shape,and size of breaks in three *** three groups had macular detachment in all *** and peripheral retinal degenerations were found to be more significant in adults(P=0.049,P=0.035,respectively),while blunt trauma was higher but insignificant in pediatric eyes(P=0.052).Pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)with silicone oil as a tamponade was the most used surgery in all ***:There are no significant difference in PVR rate in pediatric eyes but a significant higher rate of total *** trauma is more frequent in pediatrics eyes while myopia and/or peripheral retinal degenerations are more frequent in older *** rate of PPV as a choice for surgery is similar among all age groups.

The present study was to investigate the copepodid species infecting rosy goatfish Parupeneus rubescens,one of the most economically important fishes in the Arabian Gulf.A copepodid species identified from the examined fish specimens belongs to the Taeniacanthidae family and is labeled as Taeniacanthus yamagutii Shiino,1957,mainly depending on its morphological,morphometric,and ultrastructural characteristics,in particular the presence of maxilliped claw with a conspicuous digitiform process at the base,the terminal process of the second maxilla stout,and a setiform element at the tip of each exopod spine of legs *** order to ensure the accurate identification and exact taxonomic characterization of this species,the 28S rRNA gene sequence was *** result revealed that the present copepodid species belong to the Taenicanthidae family and has a close relationship with Taeniacanthus yamagutii(gb|KR048852.1)in the same *** present study demonstrated that the rosy goatfish is a host for Taeniacanthus species,which will be helpful to prevent this parasitic infection.

Efect of early feeding practices and eating behaviors on body composition in primary school children

Background Understanding children’s feeding practices and eating behaviors is important to determine etiology of childhood *** study aimed to explore the relationship between early feeding practices,eating behavior and body composition among primary school *** The data were collected from 403 primary school *** were administered structured questionnaire,including sociodemographic characteristics,early feeding practices and Child’s Eating Behavior *** and blood pressure(BP)measurements were *** Children with obesity and overweight showed higher food approach subscales and lower food avoidance subscales compared to a healthy and underweight *** who were exclusively or predominantly breast fed during the frst 6 months had the lowest scores for the food approach subscales,food responsiveness(FR)and emotional overeating(EOE)and had the highest scores for the food avoidance subscales,satiety responsiveness(SR)and emotional under eating(EUE).Children who were introduced solid food after 6 months showed lower scores for FR,enjoyment of food and EOE but scored highest for SR,slowness in eating(SE)and *** anthropometric measurements were positively correlated with all food approach subscales and negatively with SE,SR and food *** food approach subscales were positively correlated with BP *** food avoidance subscales were negatively correlated with both BP percentiles,except for EUE,which was negatively correlated with diastolic BP percentile ***,SR,SE and FR were predictors for child body mass *** Early feeding practices and eating behavior are considered as prevention approaches for obesity.

Trabeculectomy with Ologen implant versus mitomycin C in congenital glaucoma secondary to Sturge Weber Syndrome

AIM： To compare the efficacy and safety of collagen matrix implant [Ologen（OLO） implant] versus mitomycin C（MMC） with subscleral trabeculectomy（SST） for the surgical treatment of congenital glaucoma（CG） in SturgeWeber Syndrome（SWS）.METHODS： A prospective comparative randomized study of 20 eyes of 16 patients with CG associated with SWS was divided into two groups. The first group（MMC Group） included 10 eyes that were subjected to SST with MMC. The second group（OLO Group） included 10 eyes that were subjected to trabeculectomy with a collagen matrix implant（OLO implant）. Postoperative evaluation included intraocular pressure（IOP） level, bleb evaluation, complications, and the need for further medication or surgical intervention. RESULTS： The mean preoperative IOP was 29±3.16 mm Hg in MMC and 29.8±3.08 mm Hg in OLO eyes. Mean 12-month percentage reduction in IOP was significant in both groups（57.9% and 56.3%）. At the end of the 12 postoperative follow-up month, in the MMC Group, 80% of eyes achieved the complete success, 20% of eyes had qualified success with no failed surgery in comparison to OLO Group which 70% of eyes achieved the complete success, 20% of eyes had qualified success with 10% failed surgery. In terms of complications, the MMC Group had a higher rate of complications than the OLO Group in the form of thin polycystic bleb in 6 eyes（60%）, blebitis in only one eye（10%） treated with topical antibiotics, shallow anterior chamber in two eyes（20%）.CONCLUSION： This study proves that the use of a collagen matrix implant yields equally effective results as MMC when combined with trabeculectomy for the treatment of CG in SWS. Furthermore, OLO implantation is safe and has low incidences of complications.

Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activities of Mn（II）, Co（II）, Ni（II）, Cu（ll） and Zn（II） Complexes of Triazole-based Azodyes

The synthesis and characterization of new transition metal complexes of Mn（ll）, Co（II）, Ni（II）, Cu（II） and Zn（II） with 3-（2-hydroxynaph-l-ylazo）-1,2,4-triazole （HL1） and 3-（2-hydroxy-3-carboxynaph-l-ylazo）-1,2,4-triazole （HL2） have been carried out. Their structures were confirmed by elemental analyses, thermal analyses, spectral and magnetic data. The IR and 1H NMR spectra indicated that HL1 and HL2 coordinated to the metal ions as bidentate monobasic ligands via the hydroxyl O and azo N atoms. The UV-Vis, ESR spectra and magnetic moment data revealed the formation of octahedral complexes [MnL1（AcO）（H2O）3] （1）, [CoL1（AcO）（HzO）3]·H2O （2）, [MnL2- （AcO）（H20）3] （6） and [CoL2（AcO）（H2O）3] （7）, [NiL1（AcO）（H2O）] （3）,[ZnLI（AcO）（HzO）]·H2O （5）, [NiL2- （AcO）（H2O）] （8）, [ZnL2（AcO）（H2O）]·H2O （10） have tetrahedral geometry, whereas [CuLI（AcO）（H2O）2] （4） and [CuL2（AcO）（H2O）2]·5H2O （9） have square pyramidal geometry.. The mass spectra of the complexes under EI-con- ditions showed the highest peaks corresponding to their molecular weights, based on the atomic weights of 55Mn, 59Co, 58Ni, 63Cu and 64Zn isotopes; besides, other peaks containing other isotopes distribution of the metal. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the thermal decomposition stages were computed from the thermal data using Coats-Redfern method. HL2 and complexes 6--10 were found to have moderate antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus＇ aureus （gram positive）, Escherichia coli （gram negative） and Salmonella sp bacteria, and antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Also, in most cases, metallation increased the activity compared with the free ligand.

Parameters Affecting Energy Consumption for Producing High Carbon Ferromanganese in a Closed Submerged Arc Furnace

The power consumption is considered to be the most important factor affecting the production cost of fer romanganese alloy. Different parameters affecting the energy consumption for industrial production of high carbon ferromanganese HCFeMn were investigated in a closed submerged arc furnace. The analysis of industrial data revealed that the most energy consumed factors were the direct reduction by solid carbon, Boudouard reaction, metal and slag formation, and decomposition of fluxing materials （limestone and dolomite）. To reduce the energy con- sumption and minimize the energy losses in the production process of HCFeMn, it was recommended to use Mn blend with minimum Mn to Fe ratio of 6 and lower SiO2 content or higher basicity. The added coke must be adjusted according to the material balance to prevent the over-coke and to minimize the highly endothermic ＂Boudouard reac tion＂. In addition, it was recommended to work at basic slags with the ratio of （CaO＋MgO） to Si（）2 equal to 1.0- 1.2 instead of much higher slag basicity. Furthermore, the mass losses had to be minimized through adjusting the handling and charging process and to take care of all metal produced.

Dammam City is one of the gorgeous coastal areas in the Arabian Gulf of Saudi *** present study aimed to ex-amine one of the copepod species infecting the rosy goatfish that represents a highly consumed fish species by the local population in the Arabian *** copepod species isolated from the infected fish specimens belong to the family Taeniacanthidae and was iden-tified as Irodes parupenei Ho and Lin(2007),primarily based on its morphological,morphometric,and ultrastructural characteris-tics,especially the structures of the dorsal cephalic area,segmentation of the first antenna,the absence of the maxilliped claw in the fe-male specimens,and the setation and spinulation of the legs 2-4 for the adult females are of great significance in the taxonomic *** 18S rRNA gene sequence was analyzed to ensure the precise identity and exact taxonomic status of the copepod *** result showed that this copepod species belong to Taenicanthidae and closely related to Irodes sauridi(gb|JF781550.1)in the same *** details on the specificity of the goatfish for Irodes species and identifying these parasitic taxa using molecular analysis are given in the present study.

Functionalized CVD monolayer graphene for label-free impedimetric biosensing

Recent advances in large area graphene growth have led to many applications in different areas. In the present study, chemical vapor deposited （CVD） monolayer graphene supported on glass substrate electrochemical biosensing applications was examined as electrode material for We report a facile strategy for covalent functionalization of CVD monolayer graphene by electrochemical reduction of carboxyphenyl diazonium salt prepared in situ in acidic aqueous solution. The carboxyphenyl-modified graphene is characterized using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, and atomic force microscopy （AFM）, as well as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （hIS）. We also show that the number of grafted carboxyphenyl groups on the graphene surface can be controlled by the number of cyclic voltammetry （CV） scans used for electrografting. We further present the fabrication and characterization of an immunosensor based on immobilization of ovalbumin antibody on the graphene surface after the activation of the grafted carboxylic groups via EDC/NHS chemistry. The binding between the surface-immobilized antibodies and ovalbumin was then monitored using Faradaic EIS in [Fe（CN）6]^3-/4- solution. The percentage change of charge transfer resistance （Rct） after binding exhibited a linear dependence for ovalbumin concentrations ranging from 1.0 pg·mL^-1 to 100 ng·mL^-1, with a detection limit of 0.9 pg·mL^-1. Our results indicate good sensitivity of the developed functionalized CVD graphene platform, paving the way for using CVD monolayer graphene in a variety of electrochemical biosensing devices.
