Deep Learning Approach for COVID-19 Detection in Computed Tomography Images

With the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)worldwide,the establishment of an accurate and fast process to diagnose the disease is *** routine real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(rRT-PCR)test that is currently used does not provide such high accuracy or speed in the screening *** the good choices for an accurate and fast test to screen COVID-19 are deep learning *** this study,a new convolutional neural network(CNN)framework for COVID-19 detection using computed tomography(CT)images is *** EfficientNet architecture is applied as the backbone structure of the proposed network,in which feature maps with different scales are extracted from the input CT scan *** addition,atrous convolution at different rates is applied to these multi-scale feature maps to generate denser features,which facilitates in obtaining COVID-19 findings in CT scan *** proposed framework is also evaluated in this study using a public CT dataset containing 2482 CT scan images from patients of both classes(i.e.,COVID-19 and non-COVID-19).To augment the dataset using additional training examples,adversarial examples generation is *** proposed system validates its superiority over the state-of-the-art methods with values exceeding 99.10%in terms of several metrics,such as accuracy,precision,recall,and *** proposed system also exhibits good robustness,when it is trained using a small portion of data(20%),with an accuracy of 96.16%.

The fast spread of coronavirus disease(COVID-19)caused by SARSCoV-2 has become a pandemic and a serious threat to the *** of May 30,2020,this disease had infected more than 6 million people globally,with hundreds of thousands of ***,there is an urgent need to predict confirmed cases so as to analyze the impact of COVID-19 and practice readiness in healthcare *** study uses gradient boosting regression(GBR)to build a trained model to predict the daily total confirmed cases of *** GBR method can minimize the loss function of the training process and create a single strong learner from weak *** are conducted on a dataset of daily confirmed COVID-19 cases from January 22,2020,to May 30,*** results are evaluated on a set of evaluation performance measures using 10-fold cross-validation to demonstrate the effectiveness of the GBR *** results reveal that the GBR model achieves 0.00686 root mean square error,the lowest among several comparative models.

Controlled growth and composition of multivariate metal-organic frameworks-199 via a reaction-diffusion process

In this paper,we exploit our prior successful synthesis of MOF-199 single crystals using the reaction-diffusion framework(RDF),to synthesize multivariate metal-organic frameworks(MTV-MOFs)version with enhanced *** MTV-MOFs are synthesized by creating defects within the MOF-199 crystal structure by integrating organic linkers entailing different functional ***,5-aminoisophthalic acid(NH_(2)-BDC)and 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid(OH-BDC)are separately mixed with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid(BTC)in three different starting ratios of X-BDC:BTC(1:3,1:1)and(3:1).The effects of this linker on the morphology of the synthesized MTV-MOFs,their thermal stability,and their surface area are *** extent of the incorporation of the linkers in the framework is elucidated via^(1)H-NMR spectroscopy and it is shown that the incorporation varies as a function of the location along the tubular reactor,a characteristic of *** enhanced properties of the synthesized MTV-MOFs are further demonstrated by measuring its adsorptive capability for methylene blue(MB)and rhodamine B(Rh B)in aqueous solution,and compared with that of the as-synthesized *** kinetic and thermodynamic studies reveal that MTV-MOFs with the ratio of X-BDC:BTC(1:1)exhibit the best uptakes of MB(263 mg/g)for X=OH and Rh B(156 mg/g)for X=NH_(2).The adsorbents are also easily regenerated for three consecutive cycles without losing their *** finally demonstrate that MTV-MOFs can be designed to tune the dye removal selectivity and enhance the removal capacity of both MB and RhB in a binary aqueous solution of these dyes.

Enhancement of natural convection heat transfer from a fin by triangular perforation of bases parallel and toward its tip

This study examines the heat transfer enhancement from a horizontal rectangular fin embedded with triangular perforations （their bases parallel and toward the fin tip） under natural convection. The fin＇s heat dissipation rate is compared to that of an equivalent solid one. The parameters considered are geometrical dimensions and thermal properties of the fin and the perforations. The gain in the heat transfer enhancement and the fin weight reduction due to the perforations are considered. The study shows that the heat dissipation from the perforated fin for a certain range of triangular perforation dimensions and spaces between perforations result in improvement in the heat transfer over the equivalent solid fin. The heat transfer enhancement of the perforated fin increases as the fin thermal conductivity and its thickness are increased.

For reinforced concrete members subjected to high temperature,the degree of in-service loading,commonly expressed as the loading ratio,can be highly influential on the structural *** particular,the loading ratio may be pivotal in relation to the phenomenon of load-induced thermal *** its potentially pivotal role,to date,the influence of the loading ratio on both material and structural behavior has not been explored in *** practice,real structures experience variation in imposed loading during their service life and it is important to understand the likely response at elevated temperatures across the loading *** this paper,the effect of the loading ratio is numerically investigated at both material and structural level using a validated finite element *** model incorporates a proposed constitutive model accounting for load-induced thermal strain and this is shown to outperform the existing Eurocode 2 model in terms of *** the validated model,the specific case of flats slabs and the associated connections to supporting columns at various loading ratios are *** the cases examined,a marked difference in the structural behavior including displacement direction was captured from low to high loading ratios consistent with experimental observations.

Assessment of Groundwater Pollution with Heavy Metals in North West Bank/Palestine by ICP-MS

Groundwater of North West Bank in Palestine was assessed for pollution with trace metals by ICP/MS. The samples were analysed for their pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, and different trace metals content. The pH, electrical conductivity, and total dissolved solids of all water samples were found to be within the US Environmental protection Agency limits. Results showed that the concentration of nine trace metals (Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Pb, Cd, and al) is within the WHO limits in drinking water (50, 500, 20, 2000, 3000, 70, 10, 3, and 200 ug/L, respectively), however six metals of them (Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Mo, and al) were detected in 100% of the samples, while Pb, Cd, and Zn were detected in 80%, 60%, and 20% of the samples, respectively. On the other hand, Tl which is a very toxic heavy metal with allowed WHO limits of 0.01 - 1 ug/L is detected in 100% of the water samples analysed with a range of 0.02 - 0.12 ug/L. It indicates that such concentration levels of Tl would be harmful to the human being drinking the water. In general, 82% of all samples analysed contained one or more of the 12 metals studied each in varying concentration. Results of this study suggest a possible risk to the people of the study area given the toxicity of heavy metals, and the fact that for many people in the study area, groundwater is a main source of their water supply.

Fully palladium/copper catalytic oxidative cross-coupling of acrylates with α-methylstyrene was performed in a DMSO/AcOH(1:1) mixture at 60℃ in the *** improves previous procedures which employed stoichiometric amounts of copper and *** various acrylates were effectively coupled to α-methylstyrene giving the expected compounds in moderate to good yields(44%-65%) as a mixture of E and Z isomers.

Spontaneous Bilateral Pneumothorax in a Healthy Young Adult: A Comprehensive Case Report

Background: Spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax in healthy young adults is a rare and challenging condition that defies conventional diagnostic and etiological paradigms. This case report explores the presentation, diagnostic evaluation, management, and potential contributing factors in a 29-year-old male with no prior medical history who experienced bilateral spontaneous pneumothoraces. Aim: This case report aims to shed light on the complexities of managing spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax, particularly in the absence of common risk factors. It underscores the need for a thorough assessment and ongoing research to unravel the enigma surrounding this condition. Case Presentation: A healthy 29-year-old male presented with acute chest pain and shortness of breath, ultimately diagnosed with bilateral spontaneous pneumothoraces. Despite the absence of typical risk factors, advanced imaging techniques revealed valuable insights into the diagnosis and management of this unique presentation. Conclusion: Spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax in healthy individuals presents diagnostic challenges and raises questions about potential genetic predisposition, connective tissue disorders, and lifestyle-related triggers. While the acute phase was effectively managed, this case underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and ongoing research to comprehensively understand this condition.
