three-stage pyrolysis–steam reforming–water gas shift processing of household,commercial and industrial waste plastics for hydrogen production

Five common single plastics and nine different household,commercial and industrial waste plastics were processed using a three-stage(i)pyrolysis,(ii)catalytic steam reforming and(iii)water gas shift reaction system to produce *** of plastics produces a range of different hydrocarbon species which are subsequently catalytically steam reformed to produce H_(2)and CO and then undergo water gas shift reaction to produce further H_(2).the process mimics the commercial process for hydrogen production from natural *** of the single polyalkene plastics(high-density polyethylene(HDPE),low-density polyethylene(LDPE),and polypropylene(PP))produced similar H_(2)yields between 115 mmol and 120 mmol per gram *** though PS produced an aromatic product slate from the pyrolysis stage,further stages of reforming and water gas shift reaction produced a gas yield and composition similar to that of the polyalkene plastics(115 mmol H_(2)per gram plastic).PEt gave significantly lower H_(2)yield(41 mmol per gram plastic)due to the formation of mainly CO,CO_(2)and organic acids from the pyrolysis stage which were not conducive to further reforming and water gas shift reaction.A mixture of the single plastics typical of that found in municipal solid waste produced a H_(2)yield of 102 mmol per gram *** the gas yields and composition from the single plastics enabled an estimation of the yields from a simulated waste plastic mixture and a‘real-world’waste plastic mixture to be *** different household,commercial and industrial waste plastic mixtures produced H_(2)yields between 70 mmol and 107 mmol per gram *** H_(2)yield and gas composition from the single waste plastics gave an indication of the type of plastics in the mixed waste plastic samples.

Co-pyrolysis of biomass biopolymers(lignin and cellulose)with plastic wastes(polyethylene and polystyrene)coupled with downstream catalytic steam reforming of the pyrolysis gases for the production of a hydrogen-rich syngas is *** catalyst used was 10 wt.%nickel supported on *** influence of the process parameters of temperature and the steam flow rate was examined to optimize hydrogen and syngas *** cellulose/plastic mixtures produced higher hydrogen yields compared with the lignin/plastic ***,the impact of raising the catalytic steam reform-ing temperature from 750 to 850 ℃was more marked for lignin *** example,the hydrogen yield for cellulose/polyethylene at a catalyst temperature of 750 ℃was 50.3 mmol g^(−1) and increased to 60.0 mmol g^(−1) at a catalyst temperature of 850°***,for the lignin/polyethylene mixture,the hydrogen yield increased from 25.0 to 50.0 mmol g^(−1) repre-senting a twofold increase in hydrogen *** greater influence on hydrogen and yield for the lignin/plastic mixtures compared to the cellulose/plastic mixtures is suggested to be due to the overlapping thermal degradation profiles of lignin and the polyethylene and *** input of steam to the catalyst reactor produced catalytic steam reforming conditions and a marked increase in hydrogen *** influence of increased steam input to the process was greater for the lignin/plastic mixtures compared to the cellulose/plastic mixtures,again linked to the overlapping thermal degradation profiles of the lignin and the plastics.A comparison of the Ni/MCM-41 catalyst with Ni/Al_(2)O_(3) and Ni/Y-zeolite-supported catalysts showed that the Ni/Al_(2)O_(3) catalyst gave higher yields of hydrogen and syngas.

Impact of Dietary Lactobacillus plantarum Postbiotics on the Performance of Layer Hens under Heat Stress Conditions

this experiment was conducted to determine the performance of heat-stressed layers fed a diet containing the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum RS5 or its products of fermentation (postbiotics). twenty-week-old Isa White layers, were subdivided into six treatments of 32 individually caged birds. Half of the birds were reared under regular temperature conditions, while the other half was subjected to cyclic daily heat stress. Layers were offered one of three diets: 1) Control;2) Control + Lactobacillus plantarum RS5 probiotic;3) Control + Lactobacillus plantarum RS5 postbiotics. Birds were tested for performance and visceral organ development for 5 months. Heat stress negatively affected the birds’ feed intake, egg weight, shell weight percentage, Haugh unit, shell thickness, yolk color, body weight and spleen weight percentage. Postbiotics significantly increased egg production (p to the control and the probiotic fed group (94.8% vs 92.6% vs 93.1%, respectively). Birds under probiotic or postbiotic diet showed a significantly higher (p take and egg weight, although the probiotic had a more pronounced and gradual effect. Specific gravity, yolk weight percentage and shell thickness didn’t show differences among dietary groups. the Haugh Unit was significantly higher (p tic group which also showed a significantly lower yolk color index (p the different feed treatments did not impact the bird’s viscera weight percentage, except for the ileum that was significantly lower (p tbiotic supplementation. Both probiotics and postbiotics could be used as a potential growth promoters and might alleviate heat stress impact in poultry industry.

Activity Recording of Free-Ranging tri-spine Horseshoe Crabs in the Southeastern Coast of Sabah,Borneo

In Inderasabah(southeast Sabah),tri-spine horseshoe crab tachypleus tridentatus was observed for their locomotion activity using data loggers from September to November in 2015.A female with acceleration and depth-temperature loggers and five males with acceleration loggers were recaptured between 10 and 49 days after their *** the record of 194 activity days that involve all six ***,four horseshoe crabs,including the female,were active throughout the 24.0 h cycle,whereas the activity of the remaining two males was consistent with the 12.4 h *** the 40-day recording,three horseshoe crabs,including the female,were primarily active around the new moon and full moon,but they were dormant around the first and third quarter moon *** female spent much time in shallow shores(depththe new moon and full *** result indicated that the female attempted to spawn in a minimum of three spring tide periods while lingering in the ***,after spawning,the female spent time foraging in shallow water(depth 0.3–18 m).As for the two male individuals,their activity was consistent with semi-lunar ***,both of them were in *** addition,a solitary male individual was active only during the first and third quarter moon *** activity recording,all the *** in Inderasabah was active during daytime and *** result was contrary to *** activity cycles in western Japan,where the species was found to be primarily ***,the regional differences in activity cycles for *** were related to their population adaptation toward water temperature,depth,and prey-searching periods.
