Evaluation of 3D crustal seismic velocity models in southwest China:Model performance,limitation,and prospects

Southwest China is a tectonically and seismically active region,witnessing strong deformation due to the collision between the Indian and Eurasian *** the subsurface velocity structure of this region is thus important in understanding the tectonics and geodynamic processes of continental collision and in mitigating seismic *** studies have provided various 3D seismic velocity models in southwest ***,discrepancies exist among these models,and less effort has been made to quantify the reliability and accuracy of these existing velocity *** this study,we use regional 3D waveform simulation to evaluate the performance of various regional crustal 3D velocity models in reproducing observed *** particularly focus on two recent earthquake sequence in the region,the 2021 Yunnan Yangbi MS_(6.4) earthquake sequence and the 2022 Sichuan Luding MS_(6.8) earthquake *** tested 3D velocity models include the Southwest China Community Velocity model V1.0,the Unified Seismic Tomography Models for Continental China Lithosphere V2.0,the adjoint full waveform tomography model of the crustal and upper mantle beneath Eastern Tibetan Plateau,and the shallow seismic structure model beneath continental *** results show that the tested 3D velocity models generally capture well long-period(hat the 3D models adequately resolve overall large-scale subsurface ***,the 3D synthetics show discrepancies in higher frequencies(0.05–0.3 Hz)and the performance of the 3D velocity models varies from region to region,suggesting that smaller scale heterogeneities are not well *** shallow velocity structures(hasizing the importance of incorporating shallow structures in waveform *** full-waveform tomography model shows a slighter better performance than the other models,especially for the body-waves,highlighting the advantages

Electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia as an environment-friendly and sustainable development method has received widespread attention in recent ***-dimensional(2D)materials are a promising catalyst for ammonia synthesis due to their large surface *** this work,we have constructed a series of 2D metal borides(MBenes)with transition metal(TM)defects(TMd-MBenes)and comprehensively calculated the reactivity of electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia-based on density functional *** results have demonstrated that the TMd-MBenes can effectively activate nitrogen oxide(NO)and nitrogen(N2)molecules *** interesting,the co-chemisorption of O atoms,dissociated from NO,can facilitate the spilled of the inert N2 molecules into single N atoms,which can further hydrogenate into ammonia easily with an ultralow limiting potential of 0.59 V on *** research has not only provided clues for catalyst design for experimental study but also paved the way for the industrial application of electrocatalytic ammonia synthesis.

A Strong,Tough,and Self-Healing Strengthening Thioctic Acid-based Elastomer for Highly Reliable Flexible Strain Sensor

Elastomers with high strength and toughness,excellent self-healing properties,and biocompatibility have broad application prospects in wearable electronics and other fields,but preparing it remains a *** this work,we propose a highly adaptable strategy by introducing the small molecule crosslinking agent of triethanolamine(TEA)to the poly(thioctic acid)(PTA)chains and preparing the PAx Ey elastomers using a simple synthesis *** strategy stabilizes the PTA chains by constructing multiple non-covalent cross-linked dynamic networks,endowing materials with excellent strength and toughness(tensile strength of 288 kPa,toughness of 278.2 kJ/m3),admirable self-healing properties(self-healing efficiency of 121.6%within 7 h at 70℃),and good *** PAx Ey elastomers can also be combined with MWNTs to become flexible strain sensors,which can be used to monitor human joint movements with high sensitivity,repeatable responses,and stability.

New model of linkage evolution for the transtensional fault systems in the Nanpu sag of Bohai Bay Basin: Insight from seismic interpretation and analogue modelling

The evolution of faults within the same stress field is frequently influenced by numerous factors,involving the reactivation of pre-existing structures, stress transmission through ductile detachment layers, and the growth, interaction, as well as linkage of new fault segments. This study analyses a complex multi-phase oblique extension fault system in the Nanpu sag(NPS) of the Bohai Bay Basin(BBB),China. High-resolution three-dimensional(3D) seismic data and analogue modelling indicate that the oblique extensional reactivation of pre-existing structures governs the sequential arrangement of fault segments in the caprock, and they dip synthetically to the reactivated fault at depth. During the NW-SE extension in the Eocene, the predominant movement of the pre-existing fault is strike-slip. Subsequently,during the N-S extension since the Oligocene, inclined at *** the pre-existing fault, forming splay fault segments and ultimately creating large en-echelon arcuate faults linked by relay ramps. Using fault throw-distance(T-D) and laser scanning, we reconstructed the fault evolution model of oblique extension reactivation in the presence of a ductile detachment basement. Our study illustrates that the arcuate faults can be categorized into linear master fault segments controlled by pre-existing structures, bending splay faults in the termination zone, and normal fault segments responding to the regional stress *** interaction between faults occurs among normal faults and strike-slip faults, and the kinematic unification of the two fault systems is accomplished in the intersection zone. As the faults continue to evolve, the new fault segments tend to relinquish the control of pre-existing structures and concentrate more on the development of planar and continuous major faults. The ductile detachment layer significantly contributes to the uniform distribution of strain, resulting in narrow shear zones and discontinuous normal faults in its absence.

One potential solution to the problems of energy storage and conversion is the use of reversible protonic ceramic electrochemical cells(R-PCEC),which are based on the solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)technology and offer a flexible route to the generation of renewable ***,the R-PCEC development faces a range of significant challenges,including slow oxygen reaction kinetics,inadequate durability,and poor round-trip efficiency resulting from the inadequacy of an air *** address these issues,we report novel B-sites doped Pr_(0.5)Ba_(0.5)Co_(0.7)Fe_(0.3)O_(3−δ)(PBCF)with varying amounts of Sn as the air electrode for R-PCEC to further enhance electrochemical performance at lower *** 600℃,R-PCEC with an air electrode consisting of Pr_(0.5)Ba_(0.5)Co_(0.7)Fe_(0.25)Sn_(0.05)O_(3+δ)has achieved peak power density of 1.12 W∙cm^(−2) in the fuel cell mode and current density of 1.79 A∙cm^(−2) in the electrolysis mode at a voltage of 1.3 ***,R-PCECs have shown good stability in the electrolysis mode of 100 *** study presents a practical method for developing durable high-performance air electrodes for R-PCECs.

Generic attacks on small-state stream cipher constructions in the multi-user setting

Small-state stream ciphers(SSCs),which violate the principle that the state size should exceed the key size by a factor of two,still demonstrate robust security properties while maintaining a lightweight *** ciphers can be clas-sifed into several constructions and their basic security requirement is to resist generic attacks,ie.,the time-mem-ory-data tradeoff(TMDTO)*** this paper,we investigate the security of small-state constructions in the multi-user *** on it,the TMDTO distinguishing attack and the TMDTO key recovery attack are developed for such a *** is shown that SSCs which continuously use the key can not resist the TMDTO distinguishing ***,SSCs based on the continuous-IV-key-use construction cannot withstand the TMDTO key recovery attack when the key length is shorter than the IV length,no matter whether the keystream length is limited or ***,We apply these two generic attacks to TinyJAMBU and DRACO in the multi-user *** TMDTO distinguish-ing attack on TinyJAMBU with a 128-bit key can be mounted with time,memory,and data complexities of 264,248,and 232,*** attack is comparable with a recent work on ToSC 2022,where partial key bits of TinyJAMBU are recovered with more than 250 users(or keys).As DRACO's IV length is smaller than its key length,itis vulnerable to the TMDTO key recovery *** resulting attack has a time and memory complexity of both 2112,which means DRACO does not provide 128-bit security in the multi-user setting.

Impacts of high temperature,relative air humidity,and vapor pressure deficit on the seed set of contrasting maize genotypes during flowering

Heat stress is a major constraint to current and future maize production at the global *** and female reproductive organs both play major roles in increasing seed set under heat stress at flowering,but their relative contributions to seed set are *** this study,a 2-year field experiment including three sowing dates in each year and 20 inbred lines was *** set,kernel number per ear,and grain yield were all reduced by more than 80%in the third sowing dates compared to the first sowing *** viability,silk emergence ratio,and anthesis-silking interval were the key determinants of seed set under heat stress;and their correlation coefficients were 0.89^(***),0.65^(***),and-0.72^(***),*** pressure deficit(VPD)and relative air humidity(RH)both had significant correlations with pollen viability and the silk emergence *** RH can alleviate the impacts of heat on maize seed set by maintaining high pollen viability and a high silk emergence *** a warming climate from 2020 to 2050,VPD will decrease due to the increased *** on their pollen viability and silk emergence ratios,the 20 genotypes fell into four different *** group with high pollen viability and a high silk emergence ratio performed better under heat stress,and their performance can be further improved by combining the improved flowering pattern traits.

Microfacies and diagenetic alteration in a semi-deep to deep lacustrine shale: The Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin, China

The mineralogical development and diagenetic sequence of lacustrine shales in the Chang 7 Member of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin are detailed studied.A model of their depositional system and a diagenetic diagram are proposed in this *** detailed petrographic,mineralogical,and elemental analyses,four distinct shale types are identified:argillaceous shale,siliceous shale,calcareous shale,and carbonate,clay,and silt-bearing *** main diagenetic process in argillaceous shale is the transformation of illite to smectite,negatively impacting shale *** shale undergoes carbonate cementation and quartz dissolution,contributing to increased porosity,particularly in *** shale experiences diagenesis characterised by carbonate formation and dissolution,with a prevalence of *** carbonate,clay,and silt-bearing shale,the dissolution of K-feldspar contributes to illitization of *** shale,characterised by more clay minerals and lower mesopore volume,is identified as a potential hydrocarbon *** shale,with the highest pore volume and abundant inter-mineral pores,emerges as a promising shale oil *** findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of shale properties,aiding in the prediction of shale oil exploration potential in the studied area.

3D printing encouraging desired in-situ polypyrrole seed-polymerization for ultra-high energy density supercapacitors

The tireless pursuit of supercapacitors with high energy density entails the parallel advancement of wellsuited electrode materials and elaborately engineered ***(PPy)emerges as an exceedingly conductive polymer and a prospective pseudocapacitive materials for supercapacitors,yet the inferior cyclic stability and unpredictable polymerization patterns severely impede its real-world ***,for the first time,an innovative seed-induced in-situ polymerization assisted 3D printing strategy is proposed to fabricate PPy-reduced graphene oxide/poly(vinylidene difluoride-cohexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP)(PPy-rGO/PH)electrodes with controllable polymerization behavior and exceptional areal mass *** preferred active sites uniformly pre-planted on the 3D-printed graphene substrates serve as reliable seeds to induce efficient polypyrrole deposition,achieving an impressive mass loading of 185.6 mg cm^(-2)(particularly 79.2 mg cm^(-2)for polypyrrole)and a superior areal capacitance of 25.2 F cm^(-2)at 2 mA cm^(-2)for a 12-layer *** agreement with theses appealing features,an unprecedented areal energy density of 1.47 mW h cm^(-2)for a symmetrical device is registered,a rarely achieved value for other PPy/rGO-based *** work highlights a promising route to preparing high energy density energy storage modules for real-world applications.
