Interleukin-6 and its soluble receptor in patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM： To evaluate the immunohistochemical localization of interleukin-6 （IL-6） and IL-6 receptor （IL-6R） on tumor tissue specimens from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） and the serum levels of IL-6 and sIL-6R in a group of patients with HCC as well as liver cirrhosis （LC） in a group of patients with LC alone and in a control group. METHODS： Three groups of subjects were studied： group Ⅰ （n =83） suffering from HCC and LC, group Ⅱ （n = 72） suffering from LC alone and group Ⅲ （n =42） as healthy controls. All patients had hepatitis C virus infection. Serum IL-6 and IL-6R levels were determined using a commercially available ELISA kit. Immunohistochemistry was performed using the streptavidin-biotin complex and rabbit polyclonal antibodies against IL-6 and IL-6R. RESULTS： Immunohistochemistry analysis showed a medium to strong cytoplasmic and membrane reactivity for IL-6 and IL-6R respectively, in at least 40% of cases of HCC, whereas liver cirrhosis patients and controls were negative for IL-6 or showed a very mild and focal dot-like cytoplasmic reaction for IL-6R. Serum IL-6 levels in HCC group were significantly higher than those in LC and control groups （P〈 0.0001）. There was no significant difference in sIL-6R concentrations among 3 groups. When the patients with HCC were divided into groups according to Okuda＇s classification, a significant serum increase of IL-6 and slL-6R level was observed from stage Ⅰ to stage Ⅲ （P〈0.02, P〈0.0005）. When HCC and LC patients were divided into 3 classes of cirrhosis severity according to Child-Pugh, values in HCC patients were significantly higher than those in LC patients for each corresponding class （P〈 0.01）. CONCLUSION： IL-6 serum levels in HCC patients are higher than those in LC patients and controls, suggesting an increased production of this cytokine by neoplastic cells, sIL-6R values are similar in all groups, increasing only in stage III HCC patients. ***-term recovery of normal sexual function in lesticular cancer survivors

Testicular cancer （TC） is the most common solid cancer in men between the third and fourth decade of life. Due to successful treatment approaches, TC survivors （TCSs） have long life expectancy, but with numerous potential long-term sequelae, including sexual dysfunction. We investigated predictors of long-term normal sexual function （SF） recovery in TCSs. Sociodemographic, medical, and psychometric data were analyzed in 143 Caucasian-European TCSs, who underwent orchiectomy at a single institution. Health-significant comorbidities were scored with the Charlson Comorbidity Index （CCI）. Patients completed the International Index of Erectile Function （IIEF）. Statistical models tested the association between predictors （including age at surgery, body mass index, CCI, and adjuvant therapy： radiotherapy [RT], chemotherapy [CT], CT followed by retroperitoneal lymph node dissection [RPLND] and RPLND alone） and the long-term recovery of normal SF （defined as IIEF-erectile function [EF] ≥26, and sexual desire [SD], intercourse satisfaction [IS] orgasmic function [OF], and overall satisfaction [OS] domain scores in the upper tertiles）. At a mean follow-up of 86 months, 35 （25.5%） TCSs had erectile dysfunction （ed）, with 16 （11.2%） experiencing severe ed. Median time of EF recovery was 60, 60, and 70 months after CT, RT, and RPLND, respectively. Only adjuvant RT emerged as an independent predictor of nonrecovery of normal EF （HR： 0.55, P = 0.01）. Neither adjuvant CT nor CT plus RPLND or RPLND alone significantly impaired the recovery of normal erections. Adjuvant therapy was not associated with impaired recovery of normal sexuality as a whole, considering the IIEF-SD, -OF, -IS, and OS domains.

AIM: To assess the prevalence of advanced liver fibrosis (ALF) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV/HCV patients using transient elastography, and to identify factors associated with ALF. METHODS: Between September 2008 and October 2009, 71 HIV mono-infected, 57 HIV/HCV co-infected and 53 HCV mono-infected patients on regular follow-up at our Center were enrolled in this study. Alcohol intake, the main parameters of liver function, presence of HCV-RNA, HIV-RNA, duration of highly active anti-retroviraltherapy (HAART) and CD4 cell count were recorded. ALF was defined as liver stiffness (LS) ≥ 9.5 kPa. To estimate liver fibrosis (LF) a further 2 reliable biochemical scores, aspartate aminotransferase platelet ratio index (APRI) and Fib-4, were also used. RESULTS: LS values of co-infected patients were higher than in either HIV or HCV mono-infected patients (χ 2M H = 4, P ed than in HIV and HCV mono-infected pa-tients (χ 2 = 5, P ib-4 index showed more LF in co-infected than in HIV mono-infect-ed patients (P ed patients. 自主制造系统的研究既受益于信息物理融合系统这一新技术的推动，也响应工业实际需求的号召。目前，先进的传感器技术、数字孪生、人工智能和新型通信技术可以支持半结构化工业环境中的自主操作，可实现对生产过程的实时监控、情况识别和预测、自动和自适应（重新）规划、团队合作，以及通过学习提高性能。本文总结了实现自主工业机器人技术的主要需求，提出了实现此类系统的通用工作流程，并介绍了HUN-REN SZTAKI最近在装配、焊接、打磨、拾取和放置以及机械加工等多个应用领域的广泛实践。这些解决方案的共同点是以通用的数字孪生概念为核心。最后，本文提出实现工业自主机器人解决方案的一般建议，并讨论了未来要研究的一些开放性问题。

Seed distribution and deposition patterns around parent trees are strongly aff ected by functional traits and therefore infl uence the development of plant *** assess the limitations of seed dispersal and the extent to which diaspore and neighbouring parental traits explain seed rain,we used a 9-year seed data set based on 150 seed traps in a 25-ha area of a temperate forest in the Changbai *** 480,598 seeds belonging to 12 families,17 genera,and 26 species were identifi ed,only 54%of the species with mature trees in the community were represented in seeds collected over the 9 years,indicating a limitation in seed *** species were most limited;overstory species were least *** with wind-dispersed seed had the least limitation,while the lowest similarity in species richness was for animal-dispersed species followed by gravity-dispersed species;fl eshy-fruited species had stronger dispersal limitations than dry-fruited *** linear mixed models showed that relative basal area had a signifi cant positive eff ect on seed abundance in traps,while the contribution of diaspore traits was low for nearly all *** results suggest that tree traits had the strongest contribution to seed dispersal and deposition for all functional groups examined *** fi ndings strengthen the knowledge that tree traits are key in explaining seed deposition patterns,at least at the primary dispersal *** improved knowledge of sources of seeds that are dispersed could facilitate greater understanding of seedling and community dynamics in temperate forests.

Seasonal Variations of Solar Wind Parameters during Solar Cycles 23 and 24

In this paper, we analyzed diurnal and annual seasonal variations of solar wind parameters such as interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), proton density (N), solar wind speed (V) and solar wind dynamic pressure (Pdym), during the solar cycles 23 and 24. Our study shows that strong geomagnetic disturbances are observed at the equinoxes during both solar cycles. The highest proton densities are observed at solstices during both solar cycles. The greatest solar wind speeds are observed at the equinoxes of solar cycle 23 and at the solstices of solar cycle 24. The highest solar wind dynamic pressures are observed at the solstices of both solar cycles. We also observed an asymmetrical evolution of the seasonal diurnal values of the solar wind parameters during the two cycles, except for the proton density. Our investigations also highlight the fact that the seasonal diurnal values of the solar wind parameters are significant at solar cycle 23 compared to solar cycle 24 characterized by a global weak in solar plasma conditions since the deep minimum that followed the solar cycle 23 leading to an absence of a persistent polar coronal hole. The drop observed in polar field and solar winds parameters during solar cycle 24 is reproduced on seasons (solstices and equinoxes). The solar cycle 23 and 24 appear to be two magnetically opposite solar cycles regardless the time scales.
