Crystalline Lens Vitamin C Levels in Cataract Surgical Patients

To determine the amount of Vitamin C in the lenses of Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients with Operable Cataract and ascertain association between Vitamin C levels and Blood Glucose, Glycated Haemoglobin and Intraocular pressure. Thirty Diabetic and Thirty Non-Diabetic Patients cataract surgical patients were matched for age and sex and selected for the study. Plasma fasting blood glucose and whole blood glycated Haemoglobin levels were determined by glucose oxidase enzymatic assay and immunodetection methods respectively. Cataractous lens samples obtained during surgery were weighed and homogenized in 10 volumes of phosphate buffer pH 7 and the resulting homogenate centrifuged at 18,000 g for 5 minutes at 4˚C, separated and supernatant stored at -80˚C. Vitamin C assay was carried out using commercial assay kits. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Age range of participants was 55 - 83 years, with a mean of 66.7 ± 1.8 years. Mean Vitamin C levels in the Diabetic and Non-Diabetic groups were 49.5 μg/g ± 6.47 and 57.02 μg/g ± 8.0 respectively. Although the Non-diabetic group had higher levels of Vitamin C, the difference was not significant. Levels of Vitamin C found in both groups are much lower than what has previously been reported in Literature for clear lenses. There was negative association between Vitamin C and Glucose, Glycated Haemoglobin and Intraocular Pressure. Vitamin C supplementation may be useful in prolonging incidence of cataract in both aging and diabetic Nigerian populations. AIM： To study the frequency, gender and age distribution as well as pathological characteristics of colorectal carcinoma （CRC） in Lagos and Sagamu in SW Nigeria. METHODS： This is a retrospective pathological review of histologically diagnosed CRC from 5 laboratories inLagos ＆ Sagamu. The clinical data, such as age, sex and clinical summary were extracted from demographic information. Cases of anal cancer were excluded from this study. RESULTS： There were 420 cases （237 males and 183 females） of CRC. It peaked in the 60-69 year age group （mean： 50.7; SD： 16.2）, M：F ratio 1.3：1 and 23% occurred below 40 years. The majority was well to moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma 321 （76.4%）, rnucinous carcinoma 45 （10.7%） and signet ring carcinoma 5 （1.2%）, and more common in patients under 40 years compared to well differentiated tumors. The recto-sigmoid colon was the most common site （58.6%）. About 51% and 34% of cases presented at TNM stages Ⅱand Ⅲ, respectively. CONCLUSION： CRC is the commonest malignant gastrointestinal （GIT） tumor most commonly located in the recto-sigmoid region. The age and sex prevalence and histopathological features concur with reports from other parts of the world.

Enhancing Cybersecurity through Cloud Computing Solutions in the United States

This study investigates how cybersecurity can be enhanced through cloud computing solutions in the United States. The motive for this study is due to the rampant loss of data, breaches, and unauthorized access of internet criminals in the United States. The study adopted a survey research design, collecting data from 890 cloud professionals with relevant knowledge of cybersecurity and cloud computing. A machine learning approach was adopted, specifically a random forest classifier, an ensemble, and a decision tree model. Out of the features in the data, ten important features were selected using random forest feature importance, which helps to achieve the objective of the study. The study’s purpose is to enable organizations to develop suitable techniques to prevent cybercrime using random forest predictions as they relate to cloud services in the United States. The effectiveness of the models used is evaluated by utilizing validation matrices that include recall values, accuracy, and precision, in addition to F1 scores and confusion matrices. Based on evaluation scores (accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores) of 81.9%, 82.6%, and 82.1%, the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the random forest model. It showed the importance of machine learning algorithms in preventing cybercrime and boosting security in the cloud environment. It recommends that other machine learning models be adopted to see how to improve cybersecurity through cloud computing.
