Modelling Dry Port Systems in the Framework of Inland Waterway Container Terminals

Overcoming the global sustainability challenges of logistics requires applying solutions that minimize the negative effects of logistics *** most efficient way of doing so is through intermodal transportation(IT).Current IT systems rely mostly on road,rail,and sea transport,not inland waterway *** dry port(DP)terminals has been proven as a sustainable means of promoting and utilizing IT in the hinterland of seaport container *** DP systems consolidate container flows from/to seaports and integrate road and rail transportation modes in the hinterland which improves the sustainability of the whole logistics *** this article,to extend literature on the sustainable development of different categories of IT terminals,especially DPs,and their varying roles,we examine the possibility of developing DP terminals within the framework of inland waterway container terminals(IWCTs).Establishing combined road–rail–inland waterway transport for observed container flows is expected to make the IT systems *** such,this article is the first to address the modelling of such DP *** mathematically formulating the problem of modelling DP systems,which entailed determining the number and location of DP terminals for IWCTs,their capacity,and their allocation of container flows,we solved the problem with a hybrid metaheuristic model based on the Bee Colony Optimisation(BCO)algorithmand themeasurement of alternatives and ranking according to compromise solution(i.e.,MARCOS)multi-criteria decision-making *** results from our case study of the Danube region suggest that planning and developingDP terminals in the framework of IWCTs can indeed be sustainable,as well as contribute to the development of logistics networks,the regionalisation of river ports,and the geographic expansion of their ***,the main contributions of this article are in proposing a novel DP concept variant,mathematically formulating

Intra-and interobserver reliability of ocular surface analyzer LacryDiag

AIM:To invastigate intra-and interobserver reliability of interferometry,tear meniscus height(TMH)measurement and meibography(MBG)of an ocular surface analyzer,LacryDiag(Quantel Medical,France).METHODS:Five consecutive measurements and subsequent analysis of interferometry,TMH,and MBG were recorded by two examiners using the *** assess intra-and interobserver reliability,we used Cohen’s kappa for categorical variables(interferometry),or intraclass correlation coefficient for continuous variables(TMH,MBG).RESULTS:Thirty eyes of 30 examinees were *** both observers,there was excellent intraobserver reliability for MBG(0.955 and 0.970 for observer 1 and 2,respectively).Intraobserver reliability for observer 1 was substantial for interferometry(0.799),and excellent for TMH(0.863).Reliability for observer 2 was moderate for interferometry(0.535)and fair to good for TMH(0.431).Interobserver reliability was poor for interferometry(0.074)and fair to good for TMH(0.680)and MBG(0.414).CONCLUSION:LacryDiag ocular surface analyzer in our study proves to be a reliable noninvasive tool for the evaluation of TMH and *** for interferometry,poor interobserver reliability,fair to good intraobserver reliability for observer 1,and moderate for observer 2,leave room for improvement.

Emergency Management in Critical Infrastructures: A Complex-Event-Processing Paradigm

Critical infrastructures (CI) are difficult to handle due to their complexity, size and the number of stakeholders involved. During emergency situations (e.g. fire or terrorist attack), a CI operator in the control room is faced with a flood of information coming from different sensors and legacy monitoring systems. Since in these situations, time is critical and the operators are under a great deal of pressure, a holistic management of all the technical systems and actors involved is needed, reinforced by the Recommendation and Decision Support System (RDSS) that helps emergency managers to take correct and timely decisions. One way to provide an adequate RDSS support to the operator is proposed in this paper which is based on an intelligent, event driven layer that sits on top of the legacy CI monitoring system. Powered by the complex event processing capabilities and facility data model implemented in the form of CI ontology, this layer processes events originating from different sources, conducts the situation and risk assessment, and reacts accordingly, either automatically or via recommendations proposed to emergency personnel. To validate the proposed approach, an event-driven RDSS was deployed on an airport use case (Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade), as one of the most complex CIs.

An in vitro study on interaction of anisodine and monocrotaline with organic cation transporters of the SLC22 and SLC47 families

Current study systematically investigated the interaction of two alkaloids, anisodine and monocrotaline, with organic cation transporter OCT1, 2, 3, MATE1 and MATE2-K by using in vitro stably transfected HEK293 cells. Both anisodine and monocrotaline inhibited the OCTs and MATE transporters. The lowest IC50 was 12.9 μmol·L-1 of anisodine on OCT1 and the highest was 1.8 mmol·L-1 of monocrotaline on OCT2. Anisodine was a substrate of OCT2(Km = 13.3 ± 2.6 μmol·L-1 and Vmax = 286.8 ± 53.6 pmol/mg protein/min). Monocrotaline was determined to be a substrate of both OCT1(Km = 109.1 ± 17.8 μmol·L^-1, Vmax = 576.5 ± 87.5 pmol/mg protein/min) and OCT2(Km = 64.7 ± 14.8 μmol·L^-1, Vmax = 180.7 ± 22.0 pmol/mg protein/min), other than OCT3 and MATE transporters. The results indicated that OCT2 may be important for renal elimination of anisodine and OCT1 was responsible for monocrotaline uptake into liver. However neither MATE1 nor MATE2-K could facilitate transcellular transport of anisodine and monocrotaline. Accumulation of these drugs in the organs with high OCT1 expression(liver) and OCT2 expression(kidney) may be expected.

Study of TiO_2 thin films on Si substrate by the photoacoustic elastic bending method

The quantitative photoacoustic investigation of different TiO2 thin films on Si substrates is presented using the elastic bending method. Photoacoustic signal amplitude and phase spectra versus modulation frequency were measured and analyzed using different sample thicknesses. Within the proposed method particular attention is given to the analysis of optical, thermal, elastic and structural sample parameters. Considerable focus is devoted to the fitting procedure of experimental results using the two-layer sample theoretical model. Characteristics of previously developed photoacoustic apparatus are discussed, attempting to search the ideal experimental conditions which can provide a good signal-to-noise ratio and sensitivity.

Dear Editor,We would like to present a case of non-contiguous recurrence of ciliary body melanoma following cataract surgery, detected by ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM), three years after ruthenium-106(106 Ru) *** biomicrosopy is a crucial tool in analysis of localization, size, and borders of the ciliary body tumours, local invasion, and follow-up after treatment[1]. According to the guidelines[2], examination of treated eyes should be performed every 3-6 mo following brachytherapy, actively searching for complications or tumour recurrence.

Biodiesel from Algae

Fossil fuels are non-renewable, and their quantities have been reducing because of pumping. On the other hand, the traffic is still developing and needs for fuels are growing. As a consequence people are forced to look for other sources of getting fuel. Additional reason for this has been steadily boosting the prices of crude oil and gas. Diesel, as fuel that is often used, is possible to produce from different feedstock （oil rape, soybean, sunflower, palm, waste animal fats, algae, etc）. In this paper, the author analyzes the possibility of obtaining biodiesel from algae and the feasibility of such a method of producing biodiesel. Algae for biodiesel production are analyzed and the systems in which they are growing are described. Experience in this area is described as well as opportunities for further development of technology for getting biodiesel from algae. Algae are very resistant and can grow virtually anywhere in the desert, in salt and fresh water and even in the waste water. Algae can reproduce quickly; they use C02 for photosynthesis and less water than other crops. Bio fuel from algae is biodegradable and contains no sulphur and it is not toxic.

The paper analyzes different turbine design suitable for the urban environment. The author discusses various options for setting up wind turbines in relation to the building. In order to gain insight into the real indicators, considered are actual examples of wind turbines mounted on buildings, sports facilities, roads, etc. However, these turbines have relatively low efficiency and a long payback period, and the problem may be the noise they produce. Therefore, the wind turbines installed in buildings are still more a matter of prestige of individual investors and architects than profitable investment.
