AIM: To evaluate the usefulness and safety of argon plasma coagulation (APC) for superficial esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (SESC) in high-risk patients. METHODS: We studied 17 patients (15 men and 2 women, 21 lesions) with SESC in whom endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and open surgery were contraindicated from March 1999 through February 2009. None of the patients could tolerate prolonged EMR/ESD or open surgery because of severe concomitant disease (e.g., liver cirrhosis, cerebral infarction, or ischemic heart disease) or scar formation after EMR/ESD and chemoradiotherapy. After conventional endoscopy, an iodine stain was sprayed on the esophageal mucosa to determine the lesion margins. The lesion was then ablated by APC. We retrospectively studied the treatment time, number of APC sessions per site, complications, presence or absence of recurrence, and time to ***: The median duration of follow-up was 36 mo (range: 6-120 mo). All of the tumors were macroscopically classified as superficial and slightly depressed type (0-Ⅱc). The preoperative depth of invasion was clinical T1a (mucosal cancer) for 19 lesions and clinical T1b (submucosal cancer) for 2. The median treatment time was 15 min (range: 10-36 min). The median number of treatment sessions per site was 2 (range: 1-4). The median hospital stay was 14 d (range: 5-68 d). Among the 17 patients (21 lesions), 2 (9.5%) had recurrence and underwent additional APC with no subsequent evidence of recurrence. There were no treatment-related complications, such as bleeding or perforation. CONCLUSION: APC is considered to be safe and effective for the management of SESC that cannot be resected endoscopically because of underlying disease, as well as for the control of recurrence after EMR and local recurrence after chemoradiotherapy.

Perforation is an important procedural complication of endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) for early gastric cancer. Although the incidence of delayed perforation after ESD is low, extreme caution is necessary because many cases require surgical intervention. Among 1984 lesions of early gastric cancer treated in our hospital by ESD in 1588 patients from September 2002 through March 2015, delayed perforation developed in 4 patients(4 lesions, 0.25%). A diagnosis of delayed perforation requires prompt action, including surgical intervention when required.

This paper dealt with composite scheduling problems which combine manufacturing scheduling problems and/or transportation routing *** scheduling models were formulated as the elements of the composite scheduling model,and the composite model was formulated composing these models with indispensable additional constraints.A hybrid genetic algorithm was developed to solve the composite scheduling *** improved representation based on random keys was developed to search permutation space.A genetic algorithm based dynamic programming approach was applied to select *** proposed technique and a previous technique are compared by three types of *** results indicate that the proposed technique is superior to the previous one.

A titanosauriform dinosaur： Fukuititan nipponensis gen. et sp. nov. is erected based on the incomplete skeleton. It is characterized by elongated asymmetric tooth crown with a weak or absent labial groove and without lingual concavity; stalk-like epipophysis of cervical vertebra; the transverse width of the proximal end of the humerus approximately 32% of the humerus length; metacarpal longer, approximately 48 % of the radius and the distal end of the ischia slightly expanded. It represents the first relatively complete titanosauriform skeleton found from Japan. The discovery of Fukuititan indicates that the diversity and geographical distribution of Titanosauriformes are much higher than the previous thought.

Here we report a new iguanodontian dentary found from the Lower Cretaceous Khok Kruat Formation,Nakhon Ratchasima,northeast Thailand.A unique character,which is an elongated and flat shape of the dentary ramus,makes it possible to assign the specimen to the new genus of non-hadrosaurid iguanodontian,Ratchasimasaurus suranareae *** *** shows both primitive and derived characters,such as a caudally inclined coronoid process and alveolar trough with a primitive crown impression,and a derived buccal shelf between tooth row and coronoid *** discovery of a new iguanodontian from the Indochina Terrene,considering that the previously reported 'Probactrosaurus-like' iguanodontian,points out a great diversity of this group in the late Early Cretaceous in Thailand,and corresponds to the Asian iguanodontian diversity at that time.

Initiation of plate tectonics in the Hadean: Eclogitization triggered by the ABEL Bombardment

When plate tectonics began on the Earth has been long debated and here we argue this topic based on the records of Earth-Moon geology and asteroid belt to conclude that the onset of plate tectonics was during the middle Hadean（4.37-4.20 Ga）. The trigger of the initiation of plate tectonics is the ABEL Bombardment, which delivered oceanic and atmospheric components on a completely dry reductive Earth, originally comprised of enstatite chondrite-like materials. Through the accretion of volatiles, shock metamorphism processed with vaporization of both CI chondrite and supracrustal rocks at the bombarded location, and significant recrystallization went through under wet conditions, caused considerable eclogitization in the primordial continents composed of felsic upper crust of 21 km thick anorthosite, and 50 km or even thicker KREEP lower crust. Eclogitization must have yielded a powerful slab-pull force to initiate plate tectonics in the middle Hadean. Another important factor is the size of the bombardment. By creating Pacific Ocean class crater by 1000 km across impactor, rigid plate operating stagnant lid tectonics since the early Hadean was severely destroyed, and oceanic lithosphere was generated to have bi-modal lithosphere on the Earth to enable the operation of plate *** the importance of the ABEL Bombardment event which initiated plate tectonics including the appearance of ocean and atmosphere, we propose that the Hadean Eon can be subdivided into three periods：（1） early Hadean（4.57-4.37 Ga）,（2） middle Hadean（4.37-4.20 Ga）, and（3） late Hadean（4.20-4.00 Ga）.

Optimum sintering conditions for optical properties of translucent aluminum nitride ceramics

High translucency is one of the excellent properties of AlN ceramics because of its wide optical band gap energy of 6.2 eV. We have achieved success in producing AlN ceramic tube of 98% total visible light transmittance at 0.6 mm thick tube wall by applying an improved sintering technique. This AlN ceramic was produced by sintering at 1880℃ using Ca3Al2O6 as a sintering additive and in reduction atmosphere to remove the sintering additive from the final sintered material. After the sintering, the annealing with Al2O3 was carried out to improve the transmittance of AlN ceramics. The amount of metal impurities and carbon were 27ppm and 100ppm, respectively. It is noteworthy that the amount of oxygen in AlN ceramics after the annealing was 0.36wt% which was higher than the 0.07wt% of the as-sintered AlN ceramics. Therefore, total transmittance was improved by the oxygen doping. On the other hand, thermal conductivity of AlN after the annealing was lowered by 35% compared with that of as-sintered AlN. Positron Annihilation Lifetime (PAL) measurement was applied to investigation of a relationship between the total transmittance and lattice defects. The present PAL results confirms the presence of negatively charged atomic-size vacancies that is aluminum site vacancies and also sug-gests the increase in the concentration of the vacancies after the annealing compared with that of the as-sintered material. However, it can be concluded that there is no relation between aluminum site va-cancies and the light transmittance of AlN ceramics.
