Ordovician diorite-quartz diorite mylonite(Saganoseki quartz diorite) was discovered in Sambagawa metamorphic terrane at the northern margin of Saganoseki Peninsula,Kyushu Island,*** LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronology revealed that the intrusion age of Saganoseki quartz diorite was 473.3±3.6 *** rocks show the volcanic arc affinity based on the trace element *** the basis of geochronological and geochemical results,Saganoseki quartz diorite is considered to be a member of the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic *** quartz diorite is located just south of the Median Tectonic Line(MTL)and is in close contact with the pelitic and psammitic schist without any brittle shear zone.U-Pb ages of detrital zircon grains from two psammitic schists show the estimated sedimentation age of early Late Cretaceous,indicate that these psammitic schists are the member of Sambagawa metamorphic *** with these results and the mode of occurrence in the field,we argue that the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic zone existed as an upper structural unit of the Sambagawa *** relationship is the key to reconstruct the Mesozoic tectonics of Japan as a part of East Asia,and its evolution through time.

The water-cooled supersonic two-stage high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spray gun was developed to make a coating of temperature-sensitive material,such as titanium,on a *** gun has a combustion chamber (CC) followed by a mixing chamber (MC),in which the combustion gas is mixed with the nitrogen gas at room *** mixed gas is accelerated to supersonic speed through a converging-diverging (C-D) nozzle followed by a straight passage called the *** paper proposes an experimental procedure to estimate the cooling rate of CC,MC and barrel ***,the mathematical model is presented to predict the pressure and temperature in the MC for the specific mass flow rates of fuel,oxygen and nitrogen by assuming chemical equilibrium with water-cooling in the CC and MC,and frozen flow with constant specific heat from stagnant condition to the throat in the CC and ***,the present mathematical model was validated by comparing the calculated and measured stagnant pressures of the CC of the two-stage HVOF gun.

Human Serum Albumin Hybrid Incorporating Synthetic Hemes:A Novel O_2-Carrying Hemoprotein

Incorporation of synthetic heme(FeP) into recombinant human serum albumin(rHSA) provides an artificial hemoprotein(rHSA-FeP) which can bind and release oxygen reversibly under physiological conditions(in aqueous media, pH 7.3, 37 ℃) like hemoglobin(Hb) and myoglobin. An rHSA host absorbs maximally eight FeP molecules, and the solution properties are almost identical to those of rHSA itself. The second-order structure and surface charge distribution of rHSA were always constant independent of the binding numbers of FeP. Its O 2-binding ability satisfies the initial clinical requirements for red cell substitute. Although the NO-binding affinity is 8-fold high compared to the Hbs, administration of this fluid into rats showed negligible change in the blood pressure. Physiological responses to exchange transfusion with this rHSA-FeP into anaesthetized rats have also been evaluated.

Three dimensional microstructures of carbon deposition on Ni-YSZ anodes under polarization

Mechanochemical Synthesis of Visible-light Induced Photocatalyst with Nitrogen and Carbon Doping

Nitrogen and/or carbon doped titania photocatalysts were prepared by a novel mechanochemical method. The prepared powders possessed two absorption edges around 400 and 540 nm wavelengths and showed excellent photocatalytic ability for nitrogen monoxide oxidation under visible light irradiation. Under the irradiation of visible light of wavelength >510 nm,37% of nitrogen monoxide could be continuously removed by the carbon and nitrogen co-doped titania prepared by planetary ball milling of P-25 titania–10% hexamethylenetetramine mixture followed by calcination in air at 400-C.

Evaluation of Heat and Current Characteristics of Bypass Diodes for Fault Detection in Photovoltaic Module

In recent years, PV （photovoltaic） systems have been installed rapidly around the world. However, there is often a delay in the practical application of fault detection in PV systems. In this study, the temperature of BD （bypass diodes） mounted on PV modules was measured for simple and practical fault detection. The temperature of the BD of Module 31 was higher than other modules and a large current passed through one of the BDs. Measuring BD temperatures is easier than other conventional methods of fault detection. From the results of the rise in BD temperature under dark conditions, the increase in temperature increased linearly with increasing current flow. There is a proportional relationship between heat generated and the increasing temperature of the terminal box. The experimental results about surface temperature of the junction box in actual system operation suggested that the electric current through a BD in a terminal box can be known by measuring the surface temperature of the terminal box for PV module fault detection without a system shutdown. Moreover, we tried to evaluate temperature distribution of a terminal box using heat conduction equations. The evaluated results agreed well with the measured results.

Effects of slope gradient on runoff from bare-fallow purple soil in China under natural rainfall conditions

Purple soil is highly susceptible for overland flow and surface erosion, therefore understanding surface runoff and soil erosion processes in the purple soil region are important to mitigate flooding and erosion hazards. Slope angle is an important parameter that affects the magnitude of runoff and thus surface erosion in hilly landscapes or bare land area. However, the effect of slope on runoff generation remains unclear in many different soils including Chinese purple soil. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between different slope gradients and surface runoff for bare-fallow purple soil, using 5 m × 1.5 m experimental plots under natural rainfall conditions. Four experimental plots(10°, 16°, 20° and 26°) were established in theYanting Agro-ecological Experimental Station of Chinese Academy of Science in central Sichuan Basin. The plot was equipped with water storage tank to monitor water level change. Field monitoring from July 1 to October 31, 2012 observed 42 rainfall events which produced surface runoff from the experimental plots. These water level changes were converted to runoff. The representative eight rainfall events were selected for further analysis, the relationship between slope and runoff coefficient were determined using ANOVA, F-test, and z-score analysis. The results indicated a strong correlation between rainfall and runoff in cumulative amount basis. The mean value of the measured runoff coefficient for four experimental plots was around 0.1. However, no statistically significant relationship was found between slope and runoff coefficient. We reviewed the relationship between slope and runoff in many previous studiesand calculated z-score to compare with our experimental results. The results of z-score analysis indicated that both positive and negative effects of slope on runoff coefficient were obtained, however a moderate gradient(16°-20° in this study) could be a threshold of runoff generation for many different soils

Current status, problems, and perspectives of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease research

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a major chronic liver disease that can lead to liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and ultimately death. NAFLD is pathologically classified as non-alcoholic fatty liver(NAFL) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) based on the existence of ballooned hepatocytes,although the states have been known to transform into each other. Moreover,since the detection of ballooned hepatocytes may be difficult with limited biopsied specimens, its clinical significance needs reconsideration. Repeated liver biopsy to assess histological NAFLD activity for therapeutic response is also impractical, creating the need for body fluid biomarkers and less invasive imaging modalities. Recent longitudinal observational studies have emphasized the importance of advanced fibrosis as a determinant of NAFLD outcome. Thus,identifying predictors of fibrosis progression and developing better screening methods will enable clinicians to isolate high-risk NAFLD patients requiring early intensive intervention. Despite the considerable heterogeneity of NAFLD with regard to underlying disease, patient age, and fibrosis stage, several clinical trials are underway to develop a first-in-class drug. In this review, we summarize the present status and future direction of NAFLD/NASH research towards solving unmet medical needs.

Liquid biopsy of gastric cancer patients:Circulating tumor cells and cell-free nucleic acids

To improve the clinical outcomes of cancer patients, early detection and accurate monitoring of diseases are necessary. Numerous genetic and epigenetic alterations contribute to oncogenesis and cancer progression, and analyses of these changes have been increasingly utilized for diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic purposes in malignant diseases including gastric cancer (GC). Surgical and/or biopsy specimens are generally used to understand the tumor-associated alterations; however, those approaches cannot always be performed because of their invasive characteristics and may fail to reflect current tumor dynamics and drug sensitivities, which may change during the therapeutic process. Therefore, the importance of developing a non-invasive biomarker with the ability to monitor real-time tumor dynamics should be emphasized. This concept, so called “liquid biopsy”, would provide an ideal therapeutic strategy for an individual cancer patient and would facilitate the development of “tailor-made” cancer management programs. In the blood of cancer patients, the presence and potent utilities of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cell-free nucleic acids (cfNAs) such as DNA, mRNA and microRNA have been recognized, and their clinical relevance is attracting considerable attention. In this review, we discuss recent developments in this research field as well as the relevance and future perspectives of CTCs and cfNAs in cancer patients, especially focusing on GC.
