Dry Ionic Liquid (D-IL) never means some “water-free” ionic liquid but is a member of “Dry Matter (DM)”. DM is a collective name for powdery substances that are composed of micro droplets as an inner core phase and surrounding hydrophobic silica nano particles as the shell part. When the core part is water, it is called Dry Water (DW), which is the first member of DM, while D-IL is the newest one. Because of the much larger surface area of DM compared with that of the inner phase in bulk state, this novel substances are expected to show excellent performance for any mass transfer through the gas-liquid interface. In the present study, we investigated CO2 absorption by some D-ILs and a DM containing a polyamine in terms of the speed to the equilibrium and a mol-based absorption efficiency. Compared with the respective bulk systems, the D-IL and DM systems proved to be accelerated by ca.50 times without impairing the absorption efficiency.

We previously investigated the physiological effect of an ethanol extract of fermented soymilk on rats and clarified that this extract modulated their hepatic lipid metabolism. Although the soy isoflavones and oligopeptides are representative functional components of the ethanol extract, it remained unclear whether these substances share a role in lipid metabolism modulation. Therefore, we attempted to clarify the effects of isoflavones and oligopeptides in lactic acid-fermented soymilk on lipid metabolism-related gene expression in rats and HepG2 cells. The fermented soymilk extract had a higher isoflavone aglycone content than the soymilk extract. Sevenweek-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN-93G diet, a diet plus 70% soymilk ethanol extract, or a diet plus 70% fermented soymilk ethanol extract for 5 weeks. Although both the soymilk and fermented soymilk ethanol extracts did not significantly affect plasma and hepatic lipid profiles, the expression levels of the genes encoding CYP7a1 and SREBP-2 were significantly upregulated in the livers of rats fed with the fermented soymilk extract. Whereas isoflavone aglycones upregulated CYP7a1-encoding gene expression in HepG2, oligopeptides in soymilk and fermented soymilk downregulated this expression. Oligopeptides in fermented soymilk downregulated the expression stronger than that observed with soymilk. On the other hand, no significant change in FAS expression was observed in the livers of rats fed the fermented soymilk extract. Although isoflavone aglycones did not affect FAS expression in HepG2 cells, oligopeptides in fermented soymilk downregulated FAS expression. The downregulation of FAS with oligopeptides from fermented soymilk was stronger than that from soymilk. In the present animal experiment, the effect on reduction of fat synthesis was not found because of insufficient amount of peptides derived from digestion of soy protein. 在乙醇溶液中合成了掺杂镧和钆的铽-聚N-乙烯基乙酰胺(PNVA)的掺杂稀土配合物,并通过红外光谱、紫外光谱、XPS光电子能谱和荧光光谱研究了该配合物的光谱性质。结果表明:掺杂稀土配合物中的稀土离子都与高分子配体PNVA产生配位作用。配合物的最佳激发波长为303 nm;在此波长激发下,配合物发出较强铽的特征荧光,说明非荧光稀土离子(La3+和Gd3+)对Tb3+离子的发光有显著的增强作用,而对Tb3+的发射峰位影响不大。

Geographic variation of flower size is potentially affected by various biotic and abiotic factors such as pollinator size, abundance of nectar robbers, and temperature. To elucidate the effect of geographic variation of flower-visitor fauna on flower size, we investigated two spring-flowering, bumblebee-pollinated herbs, Lamium album L. var. barbatum (seven populations) and Meehania urticifolia (five populations), in central Japan. Flower-size variations were not correlated with altitude (an index of abiotic environmental change) in either species, but in both species they were related to the local species composition of flower visitors. In L. album, flowers were bigger in populations visited by long-tongued Bombus consobrinus and B. diversus queens, whereas they were smaller in populations visited by short-tongued bees such as Apis mellifera. Flower size did not vary much among populations of M. urticifolia visited by long-tongued bumblebees, but it was uniquely small in a population whose flowers were predominantly visited by the nectar-robbing bee Megachile japonica. In conclusion, both the size and nectar-robbing behavior of bees affect local flower-size adaptation in these two long-tubed, spring-flowering herbs.

Floral size is potentially influenced by local pollinators’ body size. As pollinator fauna and size often change with elevation, correlation between elevational variation of pollinator size and floral size is expected. We investigated the variation of floral size in Prunella vulgaris L. (Laminaceae) and the variation of their pollinator fauna along an elevational gradient. We measured the floral size of four traits: corolla length (CL), corolla tube length (CTL), corolla width (CW), and calyx length (CAL), in 23 populations, and found that CL and CTL were negatively correlated with elevation, and CW and CAL were not. Six bumblebee species visited the flower, and the visiting bee fauna differed among populations;the smallest and the largest bumblebee species visited the high elevational range (above 1800 m a. s. l.) populations, and the largest and the second largest bumblebee species visited the middle elevational range (1400 - 1800 m a. s. l.). Although abiotic factors can potentially affect floral size, the fact that we do not find an elevational decrease in CW and CAL suggests that the elevational change in P. vulgaris’s CL and CTL reflects the local pollinator size.

AIM To assess the relationship between serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF1)/IGF-binding protein-3(IGFBP3)and the risk of esophageal *** We assessed the relationship between the serum levels of these molecules and the risk of esophageal cancer in a prospective,nested case-control study of participants from the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study.A baseline survey was conducted from 1988 to *** the 110585 enrolled participants,35%donated blood *** who had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer were considered cases for nested case-control studies.A conditional logistic model was used to estimate odds ratios for the incidence of esophageal cancer associated with serum IGF1 and IGFBP3 *** Thirty-one cases and 86 controls were eligible for the present *** molar ratio of IGF1/IGFBP3,which represents the free and active form of IGF1,was not correlated with the risk of esophageal carcinoma.A higher molar difference between IGFBP3and IGF1,which estimates the free form of IGFBP3,was associated with a decreased risk of esophageal carcinoma(P=0.0146),and people in the highest tertile had the lowest risk(OR=0.107,95%CI:0.017-0.669).After adjustment for body mass index,tobacco use,and alcohol intake,the molar difference of IGFBP3-IGF1 was inversely correlated with the risk of esophageal carcinoma(P=0.0150).CONCLUSION The free form of IGFBP3,which is estimated by this molar difference,may be inversely associated with esophageal cancer incidence.
