Background Current bottleneck of patient-specific coronary plaque model construction is the resolution of in vivo medical *** threshold of cap thickness of vulnerable coronary plaques is 65 microns,while the resolution of in vivo coronary intravascular ultrasound(IVUS)images is 150-200 microns,which is not enough to identify vulnerable plaques with thin caps and construct accurate biomechanical plaque *** coherence tomography(OCT)with a 15-20μm resolution has the capacity to identify thin fibrous *** and OCT images could complement each other and provide for more accurate plaque morphology,especially,fibrous cap thickness measurements.A modeling approach combining IVUS and OCT was introduced in our previous publication for cap thickness quantification and more accurate cap stress/strain *** this paper,patient baseline and follow-up IVUS and OCT data were acquired and multimodality image-based Fluidstructure interaction(FSI)models combining 3D IVUS,OCT,angiography were constructed to better quantify human coronary atherosclerotic plaque morphology and plaque stress/strain conditions and investigate the relationship of plaque vulnerability and morphological and mechanical *** Baseline and 10-Month follow-up in vivo IVUS and OCT coronary plaque data were acquired from one patient with informed consent ***-registration and segmentation of baseline and follow-up IVUS and OCT images were performed for modeling *** and follow-up 3D FSI models based on IVUS and OCT were constructed to simulate the mechanical factors which integrating plaque morphology were employed to predict plaque *** 3D models were solved by ADINA(ADINA R&D,Watertown,MA,USA).The quantitative indices of cap thickness,lipid percentage were classified according to histological literatures and denoted as Cap Index and Lipid *** Index,Lipid Index and Morphological Plaque Vulnerability Index(MPVI)were chosen to quantify plaq

Catalytic coal gasification is an efficient way to achieve high conversion rates at low *** loss due to the reaction between the inherent mineral matter in the coal and the catalyst is a major hurdle for its practical *** problem may be overcome by removing the mineral matter from the coal before *** demineralizing approaches,acid-washing and solvent-extraction methods are investigated for demineralizing the *** analysis,XRD analysis,NMR analysis,and N_(2)adsorption analysis were made to compare the demineralization efficiency,crystallographic carbon microstructure,chemical structure,and micro-porosity,***-extraction method was found be more efficient for *** was observed in the chemical structure and micro-porosity while crystallographic carbon-microstructure was found to be ***-catalytic and catalytic gasification reactivity of the chars obtained by the two methods was *** composition and gas evolution profiles were also obtained and found to be influenced by the degree of demineralization.

The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the celebrated L^2 extension theorem of Ohsawa and Takegoshi in several directions: The holomorphic sections to extend are taken in a possibly singular hermitian line bundle, the subvariety from which the extension is performed may be non reduced, the ambient manifold is K¨ahler and holomorphically convex, but not necessarily compact.

Development of a GIS-based Decision Support System for Assessing Land Use Status

The objectives of this study are to assess land s ui tability and to predict the spatial and temporal changes in land use types (LUTs ) by using GIS-based land use management decision support system. A GIS databas e with data on climate, topography, soil characteristic, irrigation condition, f ertilizer application, and special socioeconomic activities has been developed a nd used for the evaluation of land productivity for different crops by integrati ng with a crop growth model-the erosion productivity impact calculator (EPIC). International food policy simulation model (IFPSIM) is also embedded into GIS fo r the predictions of how crop demands and crop market prices will change under a lternative policy scenarios. An inference engine (IE) including land use choice model is developed to illustrate land use choice behavior based on logit models , which allows to analyze how diversified factors ranging from climate changes, crop price changes to land management changes can affect the distribution of agr icultural land use. A test for integrated simulation is taken in each 0.1° by 0.1° grid cell to predict the change of agricultural land use types at globa l level. Global land use changes are simulated from 1992 to 2050.

Interaction Dynamics in AEC Global Teamwork

Architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) global project teamwork is communication intensive and relies heavily on synchronous and asynchronous information and collaboration technologies (ICT). We explore in this paper how an asynchronous ICT, called ThinkTank, reshaped the work practice of design-construction global teams, and how the interaction with this ICT reshaped the purpose and benefits of its use. ThinkTank is a web-based asynchronous collaboration and discussion forum. We introduce the influence diffusion model (IDM) that formalizes the process of identifying the influence of people, messages, and terms mathematically. Discovering who the influence leaders in project teams are can be beneficial and critical from a corporate management perspective, since they can guide or motivate the team towards successful actions and outcomes. We present the ThinkTank-IDM integrated system and its validation with a testbed of 53 AEC global team project archived in ThinkTank over 8 years.

Load Sharing Behavior of Star Gearing Reducer for Geared Turbofan Engine

Load sharing behavior is very important for power-split gearing system, star gearing reducer as a new type and special transmission system can be used in many industry fields. However, there is few literature regarding the key multiple-split load sharing issue in main gearbox used in new type geared turbofan engine. Further mechanism anal- ysis are made on load sharing behavior among star gears of star gearing reducer for geared turbofan engine. Compre- hensive meshing error analysis are conducted on eccentricity error, gear thickness error, base pitch error, assembly error, and bearing error of star gearing reducer respectively. Floating meshing error resulting from meshing clearance variation caused by the simultaneous floating of sun gear and annular gear are taken into account. A refined mathematical model for load sharing coefficient calculation is established in consideration of different meshing stiffness and support- ing stiffness for components. The regular curves of load sharing coefficient under the influence of interactions, single action and single variation of various component errors are obtained. The accurate sensitivity of load sharing coefficienttoward different errors is mastered. The load sharing coef- ficient of star gearing reducer is 1.033 and the maximum meshing force in gear tooth is about 3010 N. This paper provides scientific theory evidences for optimal parameter design and proper tolerance distribution in advanced devel- opment and manufacturing process, so as to achieve optimal effects in economy and technology.

Diabetic neuropathy research: from mouse models to targets for treatment

Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most serious complications of diabetes, and its increase shows no sign of stopping. Furthermore, current clinical treatments do not yet approach the best effectiveness. Thus, the development of better strategies for treating diabetic neuropathy is an urgent matter. In this review, we first discuss the advantages and disadvantages of some major mouse models of diabetic neuropathy and then address the targets for mechanism-based treatment that have been studied. We also introduce our studies on each part. Using stem cells as a source of neurotrophic factors to target extrinsic factors of diabetic neuropathy, we found that they present a promising treatment.

Identification of cerebral response to balloon distention of the bile duct

AIM: To identify the brain loci that process human biliary sensation. METHODS: In 6 patients (age range: 42-74 years; 4 men), who underwent percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD), the distal biliary tract was stimulated by repeatedly inflating the balloon of the PTBD catheter so that it reached volumes that produced a definite painless sensation. The functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the cortical response to biliary sensation was examined. RESULTS: Biliary balloon stimulation elicited activation of the insular cortex, prefrontal cortex, and somato- sensory cortex (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Biliary balloon stimulation evoked a cerebral cortical response detectable by fMRI.

Natural products and food components with anti-Helicobacter pylori activities

The bacterial pathogen Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) colonizes in over half of the world’s population. H. pylori that establishes life-long infection in the stomach is definitely associated with gastro-duodenal diseases and a wide variety of non-gastrointestinal tract conditions such as immune thrombocytopenia. Triple therapy which consists of a proton pump inhibitor and combinations of two antibiotics (amoxicillin, clarithromycin or amoxicillin, metronidazol) is commonly used for H. pylori eradication. Recently, the occurrence of drug-resistant H. pylori and the adverse effect of antibiotics have severely weakened eradication therapy. Generally antibiotics induce the disturbance of human gastrointestinal microflora. Furthermore, there are inappropriate cases of triple therapy such as allergy to antibiotics, severe complications (liver and/or kidney dysfunction), the aged and people who reject the triple therapy. These prompt us to seek alterative agents instead of antibiotics and to develop more effective and safe therapy with these agents. The combination of these agents actually may result in lower a dose of antibiotics. There are many reports world-wide that non-antibiotic substances from natural products potentially have an anti-H. pylori agent. We briefly review the constituents derived from nature that fight against H. pylori in the literature with our studies.

Detailed analysis of PCBs and PCDD/Fs impurities in a dielectric oil sample （ASKAREL Nr 1740） from an imported transformer in China

Homolog and congener profiles of polychlori- nated biphenyls （PCBs）, polychlorinated dibenzo-p- dioxins （PCDDs） and polychlorinated dibenzofurans （PCDFs） in commercial PCBs formulations are useful information for the source appointment of PCBs contam- ination as well as the risk assessment caused by potential exposure. Dielectric oil （ASKAREL Nr 1740） in an imported transformer found in China was sampled and analyzed by isotope dilution technology using high resolution gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry （HRGC/HRMS）. The detailed homolog and congener profiles of PCBs obtained were compared with those of known Aroclor formulations. High similarity in the homolog profile between the oil sample and Aroclor 1260was found, with the hexachlorinated and hepta- chlorinated biphenyls accounting for more than 80.2% of the total PCBs concentration. Severn indicator PCBs contribute about 30%, while 12 PCB congeners （i.e., # 153, #143, #168, #180, #149, #165, #138, #170, #190, #187, #174, #181） account for more than 50% of the total PCB concentrations. Total concentration ofPCDDs, PCDFs and dioxin-like PCBs （DL-PCBs） was found to be 740 ng TEQ/g, of which 620 ng TEQ/g came from DL-PCBs. The contribution of PCDDs to the total TEQ was neglectable. The concentration of PCDFs homologs follows the order of OCDF 〉 HxCDFs 〉 HpCDFs 〉 PeCDFs 〉 TeCDFs, which is in consistence with the previous study on Aroclor 1260. Three DL-PCBs congeners （i.e., #118, #156, #157） accounted for 77% of the total concentration of DL-PCBs, also they contribute 72% in the TEQ caused by DL-PCBs.
