The remote forcing from land surface changes in the Sahara is hypothesized to play a pivotal role in modulating the intensity of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)through ocean-atmospheric teleconnections.This modulation has far-reaching consequences,particularly in facilitating societal shifts documented in northern China.Here,we present a well-dated lake-level record from the Daihai Lake Basin in northern China,providing quantitative assessments of Holocene monsoonal precipitation and the consequent migrations of the northern boundary of the EASM.Our reconstruction,informed by a water-and-energy balance model,indicates that annual precipitation reached700 mm during 8–5 ka,followed by a rapid decline to tween 5 and 4 ka.This shift coherently aligns with a signi550 mm be-ficant300 km northwestward movement of the EASM northern boundary during the Middle Holocene(MH),in contrast to its current position.Our findings underscore that these changes cannot be entirely attributed to orbital forcing,as corroborated by simulation tests.Climate model simulations deployed in our study suggest that the presence of the Green Sahara during the MH significantly strengthened the EASM and led to a northward shift of the monsoon rainfall belt.Conversely,the Sahara’s reversion to a desert landscape in the late Holocene was accompanied by a corresponding southward retraction of monsoon influence.These dramatic hydroclimate changes during5–4 ka likely triggered or at least contributed to a shift in Neolithic cultures and societal transformation in northern China.With decreasing agricultural productivity,communities transitioned from millet farming to a mixed rainfed agriculture and animal husbandry system.Thus,our findings elucidate not only the variability of the EASM but also the profound implications of a remote forcing,such as surface transformations of the Sahara,on climatic changes and cultural evolution in northern China.

A waiting list for non-emergency transplant medical care was recommended in the first half of 2020 due to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Hence,the number of kidney transplants temporarily declined.However,the waiting list for transplant medical care was lifted in the latter half of 2020 with the establishment of a polymerase chain reaction test system and the spread of infection prevention.The basic stance is to recommend vaccination to posttransplant recipients,recipients,and donors who are scheduled to undergo transplantation,and their families,with the start of vaccine therapy in 2021.The mortality rate of patients undergoing kidney transplants who had COVID-19 is slightly higher than healthy persons,and acute kidney injury was reported to lead to graft loss.However,pediatric cases of severe disease are rare and without deaths.Kidney transplantation medical care will be continuously provided by implementing infection prevention and treatments based on the latest evidence,promoting donated kidney transplantation,and hoping that pediatric patients with renal failure will grow up healthy,both physically and mentally,and become independent members of society,just like healthy children.

One of the major limitations of using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(InSAR)in time series analysis is the low-phase coherence associated with rough terrain and vegetated areas,which results in limited spatial coverage in such regions.Permanent scatterers technique was introduced to overcome this limitation using time-series analysis.However,identifying major scatterers within a pixel requires the single-looked pixels oversampling which can be a demanding process especially with large interferometric stacks and vast study areas.Therefore,using multilooked temporal coherent pixels was proposed to increase processing efficiency and coverage by utilizing distributed targets,but this technique may exclude pixels with reliable phase returns because of their temporal varying neighboring pixels.In this paper,we propose a technique to identify multilooked temporal stable pixels with reliable phase returns independent of their neighboring pixels.We conduct a simulation analysis to relate the spatial coherence of a pixel with its expected temporal correlation in the time series analysis module.We found that a liberal temporal correlation threshold of 0.53 in multilooked pixels stack is equivalent to a spatial coherence threshold of 0.2 when using number of looks of 9,which is considered acceptable in temporal coherent pixels,in terms of phase standard deviation.Applying these findings to study the 2011 Tohoku earthquake in the northeastern part of Japan resulted in increasing the number of usable pixels and spatial coverage index by nearly 50.4%and 36.8%,respectively,compared to the temporal coherent pixels.Furthermore,we propose an approach to integrate GPS observations with InSAR time series analysis,which resulted in deformation maps of the megathrust 2011 Tohoku earthquake with mean RMSE of 11.4 mm and a correlation of 98%in comparison to GPS observations.

BACKGROUND There are two known types of exercise-induced acute renal failure.One is the long-known myoglobinuria-induced acute renal failure due to severe rhabdomyolysis,and the other is the recently recognized non-myoglobinuria-induced acute renal failure with mild rhabdomyolysis.Exercise-induced acute renal failure was first reported in 1982.Non-myoglobinuria-induced acute renal failure is associated with severe low back pain and patchy renal vasoconstriction,and it is termed post-exercise acute renal failure because it usually occurs hours after exercise.It is also called acute renal failure with severe loin pain and patchy renal ischemia after anaerobic exercise(ALPE).AIM To makes a significant contribution to medical literature as it presents a study that investigated a not-widely-known type of exercise-induced acute renal failure known as ALPE.METHODS We performed a database search selecting papers published in the English or Japanese language.A database search was lastly accessed on September 1,2022.The results of this study were compared with those reported in other case series.RESULTS The study evaluated renal hypouricemia as a key risk factor of ALPE.The development of ALPE is due to the sum of risk factors such as exercise,hypouricemia,nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,vasopressors,and dehydration.CONCLUSION In conclusion,hypouricemia plays a key role in the development of ALPE and is often associated with anaerobic exercise.The development of ALPE is a result of the cumulative effects of risk factors such as exercise,hypouricemia,NSAIDs,vasopressors,and dehydration.

While several previous studies have indicated the link between periodontal disease (PD) and myocardial infarction (MI), theunderlying mechanisms remain unclear. Autophagy, a cellular quality control process that is activated in several diseases, includingheart failure, can be suppressed by Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g.). However, it is uncertain whether autophagy impairment byperiodontal pathogens stimulates the development of cardiac dysfunction after MI. Thus, this study aimed to investigate therelationship between PD and the development of MI while focusing on the role of autophagy. Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes(NRCMs) and MI model mice were inoculated with wild-type P.g. or gingipain-deficient P.g. to assess the effect of autophagyinhibition by P.g. Wild-type P.g.-inoculated NRCMs had lower cell viability than those inoculated with gingipain-deficient P.g. Thisstudy also revealed that gingipains can cleave vesicle-associated membrane protein 8 (VAMP8), a protein involved in lysosomalsensitive factor attachment protein receptors (SNAREs), at the 47th lysine residue, thereby inhibiting autophagy. Wild-type P.g.-inoculated MI model mice were more susceptible to cardiac rupture, with lower survival rates and autophagy activity thangingipain-deficient P.g.-inoculated MI model mice. After inoculating genetically modified MI model mice (VAMP8-K47A) with wildtype P.g., they exhibited significantly increased autophagy activation compared with the MI model mice inoculated with wild-typeP.g., which suppressed cardiac rupture and enhanced overall survival rates. These findings suggest that gingipains, which arevirulence factors of P.g., impair the infarcted myocardium by cleaving VAMP8 and disrupting autophagy. This study confirms thestrong association between PD and MI and provides new insights into the potential role of autophagy in this relationship.

Introduction Congenital diaphragmatic hernia(CDH)remains a cause of neonatal death.Our aims are to describe contemporary rates of survival and the variables associated with this outcome,contrasting these with our study of two decades earlier and recent reports.Materials and methods A retrospective review of all infants diagnosed in a regional center between January 2000 and December 2020 was performed.The outcome of interest was survival.Possible explanatory variables included side of defect,use of complex ventilatory or hemodynamic strategies(inhaled nitric oxide(iNO),high-frequency oscillatory ventilation(HFOV),extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO),and Prostin),presence of antenatal diagnosis,associated anomalies,birth weight,and gestation.Temporal changes were studied by measuring outcomes in each of four consecutive 63-month periods.Results A total of 225 cases were diagnosed.Survival was 60%(134 of 225).Postnatal survival was 68%(134 of 198 liveborn),and postrepair survival was 84%(134 of 159 who survived to repair).Diagnosis was made antenatally in 66%of cases.Variables associated with mortality were the need for complex ventilatory strategies(iNO,HFOV,Prostin,and ECMO),antenatal diagnosis,right-sided defects,use of patch repair,associated anomalies,birth weight,and gestation.Survival has improved from our report of a prior decade and did not vary during the study period.Postnatal survival has improved despite fewer terminations.On multivariate analysis,the need for complex ventilation was the strongest predictor of death(OR=50,95%CI 13 to 224,p<0.0001),and associated anomalies ceased to be predictive.Conclusions Survival has improved from our earlier report,despite reduced numbers of terminations.This may be related to increased use of complex ventilatory strategies.

The relationship between IgA nephropathy(IgAN)and Crohn’s disease was reported.IgAN is the most common primary glomerulonephritis and one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal failure,and up to 50%of cases progressed to end-stage renal disease within 25 years after IgAN diagnosis.However,specific and effective therapeutic strategies are still lacking.In this review,we discuss the possibility of the mechanism involved in IgAN associated with Crohn’s disease based on the findings of basic and clinical studies.Although the etiology of IgAN associated with Crohn’s disease is not permanent and various factors are thought to be involved,the stabilization of the disease condition of Crohn’s disease is believed to help treat IgAN.
