In this numerical study,natural flow and heat transfer of nanofluids with Al2O3,TiO2,Cu and CNT nanoparticles in a vertical channel with dimpled fins at Rayleigh number(Ra)of Ra=3.25×107 to Ra=1×108 are investigated by using the finite volume *** obtained results revealed that,using CNT in volume fractions of 2%and 4%leads to significant heat transfer and atφ=6%,using TiO2 nanoparticles has a great effect on Nu number ***,using solid nanoparticles in base fluid causes more uniform heat transfer distribution,especially in areas close to heated surface and by adding more volume fraction in base fluid,temperature level *** general,according to temperature contours,reduction of wall temperature depends on the increase of Ra and volume fraction and the type of solid nanoparticles.

Cu–15%NbC (volume fraction) powder was synthesized using the starting powders of Cu, Nb and graphite in a high energy vibratory disc mill for 7 h of milling under argon atmosphere. A composite sample and a Cu/NbC functionally graded material (FGM) sample were produced by using the two-step press and sintering at 900 °C for 1 h under vacuum. The microstructure and physical and mechanical properties of the specimens were investigated. The field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the synthesis of the nanostructure matrix of 18–27 nm with the nanoparticles reinforcement of 42 nm after sintering, verifying the thermal stability of this composite at high temperature. The hardness of Cu–15%NbC was five times greater than that of the pure Cu specimen. The volume reduction of the sample after the wear test decreased in comparison with the pure Cu specimen. The electrical conductivity of the composite specimen decreased to 36.68% IACS. The FGM specimen exhibited high electrical conductivity corresponding to 75.83% IACS with the same hardness and wear properties as those of the composite sample on the composite surface. Thus, Cu/NbC FGM with good mechanical and electrical properties can be a good candidate for electrical contact applications.

Diffusion in FSW Joints by Inserting the Metallic Foils

The aims of this investigation were to study diffusion phenomenon in friction stir welding （FSW） joints and its influence on the tensile strength of joints. To study diffusion in stir zone, various metallic foils were inserted between two pure aluminium plates. The thin foils of pure copper, pure zinc, brass and Cu-Zn-Ni alloy with the thickness of 250 μm were used as metallic foils. The transversal cross sections of welds were observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS） system. The spot analyses near the metallic foils indicated that diffusion occurs from foils into the aluminium plates during welding; consequently, the strength of stir zone increases even by 50%. Besides, the metallic foils could reveal the flow of metal after FSW process.

In the present paper, the dynamic stability of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MW- CNTs） embedded in an elastic medium is investigated including thermal environment effects. To this end, a nonlocal Timoshenko beam model is developed which captures small scale effects. Dynamic governing equations of the carbon nanotubes are formulated based on the Timoshenko beam theory including the effects of axial compressive force. Then a parametric study is conducted to investigate the influences of static load factor, temperature change, nonlocal parameter, slenderness ratio and spring constant of the elastic medium on the dynamic stability characteristics of MWCNTs with simply-supported end supports.

Given that various operational methods can be considered for a system,applying changes to study the results and determine the best operational technique is costly and disrupts the ***,to analyze and evaluate the outcomes of employing different operational methods,simulation is *** this study,to improve the performance of a medical imaging center(MIC),first,this center was simulated and then,different scenarios were defined and ***,using the simulation results and for evaluating the scenarios through Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA),each scenario was considered as a decision making unit(DMU).Since simulation results of each scenario are uncertain and differ for different iterations,a method was utilized capable of using the results of all *** the other hand,indexes such as satisfaction,patient’s appropriate waiting,helpful servicing with the least number nurses and the maximum number services that have fuzzy nature,are important factors for ***,using the simulation results and considering the system manager’s idea,a method was proposed for determining the fuzzy values of these ***,a ranking model and an algorithm were proposed for determining a unique ranking and introducing the best scenario to improve the performance of MIC.

An approach to improve wellbore stability in active shale formations using nanomaterials

Drilling through active shale formations has been a challenging practice in the oil and gas industry for a long period of time,given the complexity of shale structure and its interaction with Water Based Muds(WBMs).Although there have been many additives and methodologies proposed for a safe drilling through shale formations using WBMs,little success has been reported to the application of these methods once tested under different field *** this paper,a new WBM formulated by nanomaterials was proposed to stabilize active shale layers during drilling.A series of rheological,density,filtration loss,bentonite dispersion and shale recovery tests were conducted on the mud samples formulated by nanosilica and Nano Glass Flakes(NGFs).The results indicated that NGF,as a cheap but effective nanomaterial,is able to significantly reduce the flirtation loss without posing any significant impacts on the density and the rheology of *** also appeared that the bentonite molecules were incapable to either hydrate or disperse in the drilling fluid system in the presence of *** seems that NGFs can stabilize clay minerals and reduce the filtration loss as remarkably efficient additive,but caution must be taken to ensure that they are properly disperse in the WBMs.

Phosalone-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in the colon: evaluation and treatment

AIM: To investigate the side effects of phosalone on intestinal cells and to evaluate benefits of ellagic acid(EA) as a ***: In order to conduct an in vivo study, a rat model was used. The rats were divided into ten groups based on the materials used in the experiment and their dosage. The first group was fed normally. The second group was administered EA through gavage. Next Four groups were given(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone; an organophosphorus compound. The last four groups received(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone and of EA. After one month, the rats were sacrificed and their colon cells were examined to evaluate the level of inflammation, proteins and oxidative stress ***: The results of this research show that phosalone elevates oxidative stress and changes the level of tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-α), interlukin-6β(IL-6β) and nuclear factor(NF)-κB proteins. EA administration reduced phosalone toxicity and changed oxidative stress and inflammatory markers for all phosalone doses. Overall changes in reduction of TNF-α(230.47 ± 16.55 pg/mg protein vs 546.43 ± 45.24 pg/mg protein, P < 0.001), IL-6β(15.85 ± 1.03 pg/mg protein vs 21.55 ± 1.3 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05), and NF-κB(32.47 ± 4.85 pg/mg protein vs 51.41 ± 0.71 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05) manifest that the efficacy of EA is more viable for 1/3 LD50 dose of phosalone. Furthermore, EA is effective to counteract the negative outcomes of oxidative stress. When EA was used to treat 1/3 LD50 of phosalone's side effects, it improved the level of ACh E activity(48.5% ± 6% vs 25% ± 7%, P < 0.05), TTM(0.391 ± 0.008 mmol/L vs 0.249 ± 0.032 mmol/L, P < 0.05), FRAP(46.04 ± 5.005 μmol/L vs 18.22 ± 1.9 μmol/L, P < 0.01) and MPO(0.222 ± 0.019 U/mg protein vs 0.387 ± 0.04 U/mg protein, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This research highlights that EA is effective to alleviate the side effects of phosalone by reducing the level of oxidative stress and inflammatory proteins.
