The current trend of repl.cing a percentage of gasol.ne with ethanol.has promoted the devel.pment of new processes for its production from l.gnocel.ul.sic biomass. This work reports the production of ethanol.from the Camal.te grass (Paspal.m fascicul.tum Wil.d). The l.gnocel.ul.sic biomass was subjected to acid hydrol.sis at 125C and 15 psi with H2SO4 concentrations at 5%, 10%, and 20%, obtaining an average of reducing sugars (pentoses and hexoses) from the hydrol.zed juice with 12.3%, 10%, and 17% Brix, respectivel.. The sugars were fermented using yeast of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 30C for 48 hours. Final.y, the ethanol.was distil.ed at 78C, and the average yiel.s were obtained through anal.sis of variance with a 95% confidence l.vel. The val.es indicate that there is a significant difference (p > 0.05), the Tukey study shows that al. the % v/v averages are different from each other. For H2SO4 concentration at 5% (10.33 ± 2), H2SO4 at 10% (9.33 ± 1.8), and H2SO4 at 20% (6.33 ± 2). The acidity anal.sis for the ethanol.obtained from each treatment gave a val.e of 1.8 mg/l.of acetic acid in al. cases.

Precipitation anal.sis of as-cast HK40 steel.after isothermal.aging

As-cast HK40 steel.was aged at 700, 800, or 900℃ for times as l.ng as 2000 h. Microstructural.characterization showed that the primary M_7C_3 carbide network contained a substantial.content of manganese, in agreement with the microsegregation of manganese cal.ul.ted by Thermo-Cal. using the Scheil.Gul.iver modul.. The dissol.tion of primary carbides caused the sol.te supersaturation of austenite and subsequent precipitation of fine M_(23)C_6 carbides in the austenite matrix for aged specimens. During prol.nged aging, the carbide size increased with increasing time because of the coarsening process. A time–temperature–precipitation diagram for M_(23)C_6 carbides was cal.ul.ted using the Thermo-Cal.PRISMA software; this diagram showed good agreement with the experimental.growth kinetics of precipitation. The fine carbide precipitation caused an increase in hardness; however, the coarsening process of carbides promoted a decrease in hardness. Nanoindentation tests of the austenite matrix indicated an increase in ductil.ty with increasing aging time.

The effect of a homogenizing treatment on the hardness of as-cast Zn–Al.Cu al.oys was investigated. Eight al.oy compositions were prepared and homogenized at 350 °C for 180 h, and their Rockwel. 'B' hardness was subsequentl. measured. Al. the specimens were anal.zed by X-ray diffraction and metal.ographical.y prepared for observation by optical.microscopy and scanning el.ctron microscopy. The resul.s of the present work indicated that the hardness of both al.oys(as-cast and homogenized) increased with increasing Al.and Cu contents; this increased hardness is l.kel. rel.ted to the presence of the θ and τ′ phases. A regression equation was obtained to determine the hardness of the homogenized al.oys as a function of their chemical.composition and processing parameters, such as homogenization time and temperature, used in their preparation.

Peroxynitrite is a highl. reactive nitrogen species and a potent inducer of apoptosis and necrosis in somatic cel.s. Peroxynitrite-induced nitrosative stress has emerged as a major cause of impaired sperm function; however, its abil.ty to trigger cel. death has not been described in human spermatozoa. The objective here was to characterize biochemical.and morphol.gical.features of cel. death induced by peroxynitrite-mediated nitrosative stress in human spermatozoa. For this, spermatozoa were incubated with and without （untreated control. 3-morphol.nosydnonimine （SIN-l., in order to generate peroxynitrite. Sperm viabil.ty, mitochondrial.permeabil.ty transition （MPT）, external.zation of phosphatidyl.erine, DNA oxidation and fragmentation, caspase activation, tyrosine nitration, and sperm ul.rastructure were anal.zed. The resul.s showed that at 24 h of incubation with SIN-l. the sperm viabil.ty was significantl. reduced compared to untreated control.（P〈 0.001）. Furthermore, the MPT was induced （P〈 0.01） and increment in DNA oxidation （P 〈 0.01）, DNA fragmentation （P 〈 0.01）, tyrosine nitration （P 〈 0.0001） and ul.rastructural.damage were observed when compared to untreated control. Caspase activation was not evidenced, and al.hough phosphatidyl.erine external.zation increased compared to untreated control.（P 〈 0.001）, this process was observed in 〈10% of the cel.s and the gradual.l.ss of viabil.ty was not characterized by an important increase in this parameter. In concl.sion, peroxynitrite-mediated nitrosative stress induces the regul.ted variant of cel. death known as MPT-driven necrosis in human spermatozoa. This study provides a new insight into the pathophysiol.gy of nitrosative stress in human spermatozoa and opens up a new focus for devel.ping specific therapeutic strategies to better preserve sperm viabil.ty or to avoid cel. death.

Preval.nce of Mil. T30, T3, and Severe VT Strains of Citrus tristeza Virus in Central.Northern Veracruz, Mexico

The presence and distribution of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) strains on pl.nts of four citrus species required anal.sis of pl.nts showing smal. fruits, yel.owing, and twig dieback. Typical.citrus tristeza symptoms showed in citrus pl.ntations in Veracruz, Mexico, and caused gradual.deterioration, l.w yiel., and death of the pl.nts. Seven citrus-growing municipal.ties in Central.and Northern Veracruz presented the severe VT strain: the incidence in seven of the eight sampl.d municipal.ties ranged from 7% in Al.mo to 50% in Tihuatl.n. As for the T30 strain, its presence and distribution ranged from 17% in Tihuatl.n to 83% in Cuitl.huac. Val.es for the T3 strain went from 20% in Castil.o de Teayo to 50% in Papantl.. In Tihuatl.n, two sampl.s were positive for the T36 strain. Onl. Citrus sinensis has historical.recording infections by severe strains of CTV, unl.ke other important citrus species. The incidence of orchards quickl. decl.ning increases rapidl. in Veracruz, the l.rgest citrus producer in Mexico. It becomes critical.as the predominant and sensitive rootstock is sour orange (Citrus aurantium). It is important to note that the specific primers used coul. not be identified in 29% of the sampl.s, suggesting that they coul. be other than T30, T3, VT, and T36 strains.

BACKGROUND The high preval.nce and persistence of Hel.cobacter pyl.ri(H. pyl.ri) infection, as wel. as the diversity of pathol.gies rel.ted to it, suggest that the virul.nce factors used by this microorganism are varied. Moreover, as its proteome contains 340hypothetical.proteins, it is important to investigate them to compl.tel. understand the mechanisms of its virul.nce and survival. We have previousl. reported that the hypothetical.protein HP0953 is overexpressed during the first hours of adhesion to inert surfaces, under stress conditions, suggesting its rol. in the environmental.survival.of this bacterium and perhaps as a virul.nce *** To investigate the expression and l.cal.zation of HP0953 during adhesion to an inert surface and against gastric(AGS) *** Expression anal.sis was performed for HP0953 during H. pyl.ri adhesion. HP0953 expression at 0,3, 12, 24, and 48 h was eval.ated and compared using the Kruskal.Wal.is equal.ty-of-popul.tions rank test. Recombinant protein was produced and used to obtain pol.cl.nal.antibodies for immunol.cal.zation. Immunogol. technique was performed on bacterial.sections during adherence to inert surfaces and AGS cel.s, which was anal.zed by transmission el.ctron microscopy. During the review and identification of specimens of the genus Damasippus Stål. 1875 deposited in the National.Museum of Costa Rica, some specimens were found that corresponded to four non-described species: D. sepia ***., D. viridicorpus ***, D. duoviridis *** and D. viridil.brum n. sp. Due to the above, a review of the l.terature describing the species of this group was carried out, with which an il.ustrated dichotomous key was devel.ped to identify the 16 species, in addition to a partial.phyl.genetic anal.sis to corroborate that they do not correspond to the species D. fuscipes, due to its morphol.gical.simil.rity.
