Seamless morphing trailing edge flaps for UAS-S45 using high-fidelity aerodynamic optimization

The seamless trailing edge morphing flap is investigated using a high-fidelity steady-state aerodynamic shape optimization to determine its optimum configuration for different flight conditions,including climb,cruise,and gliding descent.A comparative study is also conducted between a wing equipped with morphing flap and a wing with conventional hinged flap.The optimization is performed by specifying a certain objective function and the flight performance goal for each flight condition.Increasing the climb rate,extending the flight range and endurance in cruise,and decreasing the descend rate,are the flight performance goals covered in this study.Various optimum configurations were found for the morphing wing by determining the optimum morphing flap deflection for each flight condition,based on its objective function,each of which performed better than that of the baseline wing.It was shown that by using optimum configuration for the morphing wing in climb condition,the required power could be reduced by up to 3.8%and climb rate increases by 6.13%.The comparative study also revealed that the morphing wing enhances aerodynamic efficiency by up to 17.8%and extends the laminar flow.Finally,the optimum configuration for the gliding descent brought about a 43%reduction in the descent rate.

Effects of cold rolling on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-Ni-Mn-Mo-Ti-Cr maraging steels were studied.To investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties,optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,tensile test,and hardness test were used.The results show that the solution-annealing treatment in the cold-rolled steel redounds to the formation of sub-microcrystalline Fe2（Mo,Ti） Laves phase particles,which are stable at high temperatures.These secondary Laves phase particles prevent from recrystallization at high temperatures and correspond to semi-brittle fracture in the subsequent aging treatment.

Mitigation of sediment deposition in lined open channels is an essential issue in hydraulic engineering practice.Hence,the limiting velocity should be determined to keep the channel bottom clean from sediment deposits.Recently,sediment transport modeling using various artificial intelligence(AI) techniques has attracted the interest of many researchers.The current integrated study highlights unique insight for modeling of sediment transport in sewer and urban drainage systems.A novel methodology based on the combination of sensitivity and uncertainty analyses with a machine learning technique is proposed as a tool for selection of the best input combination for modeling process at non-deposition conditions of sediment transport.Utilizing one to seven dimensionless parameters,127 models are developed in the current study.In order to evaluate the different parameter co mbinations and select the training and te sting data,four strategies are considered.Considering the densimetric Froude number(Fr) as the dependent parameter,a model with independent parameters of volumetric sediment concentration(CV) and relative particle size(d/R) gave the best results with a mean absolute relative error(MARE) of 0.1 and a root means square error(RMSE) of 0.67.Uncertainty analysis is applied with a machine learning technique to investigate the credibility of the proposed methods.The percentage of the observed sample data bracketed by95% predicted uncertainty bound(95 PPU) is computed to assess the uncertainty of the best models.

A Study of the Link Between the Tourism Industry and the GDP in the ECO Countries

The present study aims at exploring the causal relationship between tourism industry and GDP in the economic cooperation organization (ECO) countries for the period of 2000‐2010. To this end, the causal relationship between the two variables was examined using panel data and Granger standard causality test. The results demonstrate a unidirectional causality from GDP to the number of tourists coming to the ECO countries. It is also concluded that a rise in the country’s GDP provides necessary conditions for investment on all sectors of the economy including the tourism sector. In such conditions, if the country’s economic priorities comprise tourism development, then tourists will start visiting the country and the industry will flourish. Thus, policy‐makers should focus on the increasing GDP if they want to increase the tourists’ influx.
