Electrocatalytic evolution of oxygen on NiCu particles modifying conductive alumina/nano-carbon network composite electrode

In this paper, a novel electrically conductive alumina/nano-carbon network (NCN) composite material was used as an electro- catalyst carrier. A NiCu/Al2O3 /NCN composite electrode was prepared by electrodepositing NiCu particles onto the surface of the conductive alumina/NCN composite. Morphology, composition, crystalline structure and electrochemical properties of the NiCu/Al2O3 /NCN composite electrode were investigated. The results showed that NiCu particles can be deposited onto the surface of the alumina/NCN composite by a coelectrodeposition method. NiCu particles in the form of solid solution with face-centered cubic (fcc) structure were relatively uniformly distributed over the carbon layer of the conductive ceramic between alumina grains. As-resulted NiCu/Al2O3 /NCN composite electrode had a remarkably enhanced electrochemical activity and high stabilization for oxygen evolution reaction, which indicated its potential application with enhanced performance to oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Moreover, based on the electrochemical measurement, the mechanism of the OER on the NiCu/Al2O3 /NCN composite electrode was discussed.

This paper will present the characteristics of flow behavior and thermal field of both free and impingement jet issued from a circular orifice nozzle at Re=*** flow behavior of a single round jet and impingement jet was observed by smoke flow visualization recorded by a high speed camera using 5000 frame per *** transfer coefficient on the impingement surface was measured by means of infrared camera (TVS-8500,Avio) with a two-dimensional array of Indeum-Antimony (In Sb) sensors varying in the separation distance between the nozzle and the target *** heat transfer coefficient changes in time and ***,the root mean square distribution of the heat transfer was obtained from the *** a result,it was confirmed that the longitudinal vortex was observed outside of the ring vortex,and then the longitudinal vortex was penetrated in the jet ***,the high value of root mean square of the heat transfer coefficient has spread radially in stripy manner,which is caused as the results of the longitudinal vortexes flowing in the radial direction on the impingement plate.

Natural purification effects in the river in consideration with domestic wastewater pollutant discharge reduction effects

The first social experiment program in Japan to reduce domestic wastewater pollutant discharge by ＂soft interventions＂ in households has been conducted in the Yamato-gawa River drainage area since 2005. The Yamato-gawa River has been listed as one of the worst water quality rivers in Japan because of the larger annual average BOD. ＂Hard interventions＂ including deployment of wastewater treatment facilities and artificial installation of natural purification facilities in the river has been conducted in these years to improve river water quality. At the first Yamato-gawa River social experiment program （YR-SEP） in March 2005, BOD at the monitoring point near the river mouth decreased about 6% during the Program. Natural purification effect along the river was evaluated in this article with one-dimensional water quality model for the six river sections. Larger biological oxygen consumption rate, kb, was estimated in the sections with artificially installed natural purification facilities. The effect of ＂soft interventions＂ in households in the YR-SEP was estimated as 25% BOD decrease in the nearest monitoring point to the river mouth, when all the households participate in the Program and BOD discharge reduction rate with ＂soft interventions＂ in households was 40%.

Objective: This study investigated the reasons, timing, procedures, and priorities of evacuations implemented by hospitals after the 2017 Central Tottori Earthquake to determine whether the evacuations were conducted appropriately. Methods: We collected patient and hospital data from the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) coordination headquarters at the Prefectural Office. Requests for the transfer of 13 patients were analyzed. Results: The 13 patients were evacuated at night over seven hours, during which aftershocks occurred and falling debris was a high risk. We determined that none of the affected regions had emergency needs. Therefore, patient transport could have been conducted the following morning by bus and helicopter. Furthermore, patient transport could be efficiently carried out without physicians accompanying the patients. Nonetheless, consideration should be made regarding the handling of patient issues while in transit. Where a high number of patients are transported, hospitals would need to request the assistance of DMAT and Self-Defense Forces units earlier. Conclusions: Although all patients were successfully evacuated without incident with a few DMAT, It took for 7 hours to transfer 13 patients So hospitals should consider transporting patients during the day if there is no risk of building collapse. Hospitals should also prepare a plan for evacuation priority before the next disaster.

Nonylphenol(NP), nonylphenoxy acetic acid(NP1EC), nonylphenol monoethoxy acetic acid(NP2EC), nonylphenol monoethoxylate(NP1EO) and nonylphenol diethoxylate(NP2EO) are biodegradation end products(BEPs) of nonionic surfactant nonylphenolpolyethoxylates (NPnEO). In this research, sorption of these compounds onto model activated sludge was characterized. Sorption equilibrium experiments showed that NP, NP1EO and NP2EO reached equilibrium in about 12 h, while equilibrium of NP1EC and NP2EC were reached earlier, in about 4 h. In sorption isotherm experiments, obtained equilibrium data at 28℃ fitted well to Freundlich sorption model for all investigated compounds. For NP1EC, in addition to Freundlich, equilibrium data also fitted well to Langmuir model. Linear sorption model was also tried, and equilibrium data of all NP, NP1EO, NP2EO and NP2EC except NP1EC fitted well to this model. Calculated Freundlich coefficient(K F) and linear sorption coefficient(K D) showed that sorption capacity of the investigated compounds were in order NP>NP2EO>NP1EO>NP1EC≈NP2EC. For NP, NP1EO and NP2EO, high values of calculated K F and K D indicated an easy uptake of these compounds from aqueous phase onto activated sludge. Whereas, NP1EC and NP2EC with low values of K F and K D absorbed weakly to activated sludge and tended to preferably remain in aqueous phase.

Inflammatory fibroid polyp occurring in the transverse colon diagnosed by endoscopic biopsy

A case of an inflammatory fibroid polyp occurring in the transverse colon and diagnosed by endoscopic biopsy is reported. The patient was an 82-year-old man who visited our hospital for further evaluation of occult blood in stool. The Colonoscopy revealed a small, red, and peduncular polyp, about 6 mm in diameter, in the transverse colon. Histological examination of the biopsy specimen obtained from the polyp revealed proliferation of fibroblasts and infiltration of inflammatory cells such as plasma cells and eosinophils. This polyp was diagnosed as an inflammatory fibroid polyp, which can appear in many different locations throughout gastrointestinal tract, though still rare in the transverse colon.

Microsatellite alterations within genomic DNA frameshift as a result of defective DNA mismatch repair(MMR). About 15% of sporadic colorectal cancers(CRCs) manifest hypermethylation of the DNA MMR gene MLH1, resulting in mono-and di-nucleotide frameshifts to classify it as microsatellite instability-high(MSI-H) and hypermutated, and due to frameshifts at coding microsatellites generating neo-antigens, produce a robust protective immune response that can be enhanced with immune checkpoint blockade. More commonly, approximately 50% of sporadic nonMSI-H CRCs demonstrate frameshifts at di-and tetra-nucleotide microsatellites to classify it as MSIlow/elevated microsatellite alterations at selected tetranucleotide repeats(EMAST) as a result of functional somatic inactivation of the DNA MMR protein MSH3 via a nuclear-to-cytosolic displacement. The trigger for MSH3 displacement appears to be inflammation and/or oxidative stress, and unlike MSI-H CRC patients, patients with MSI-L/EMAST CRCs show poor prognosis. These inflammatory-associated microsatellite alterations are a consequence of the local tumor microenvironment, and in theory, if the microenvironment is manipulated to lower inflammation, the microsatellite alterations and MSH3 dysfunction should be corrected. Here we describe the mechanisms and significance of inflammatory-associated microsatellite alterations, and propose three areas to deeply explore the consequences and prevention of inflammation's effect upon the DNA MMR system.
