Large-scale vegetation restoration can reduce local watershed water yield,limit vegetation establishment and subsequent growth,and influence regional ecosystem *** management by reducing aboveground parts of grassland was gradually recommended and adopted in Grain-for-Green project management to offset these additional ***,scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of clipping management on infiltration and runoff processes is necessary for maintaining the stability of the surface water system and the sustainability of vegetation restoration in semi-arid regions.A field simulated rainfall experiment was conducted with four managed clipping grasslands(mainly bunge needlegrass and Stipa grandis),including no clipping,light clipping,heavy clipping,and complete clipping under three slope gradients(10,20,and 30°)and three rainfall intensities(60,90,and 120 mm/h)to explore the mechanism of runoff and infiltration responses to clipping using structural equation modeling and variation partitioning based on an SCS-CN *** results showed the runoff coefficient of the light clipping,heavy clipping,and complete clipping plots were 1.33,2.22,and 4.22 times that of the no clipping *** light clipping,heavy clipping,and complete clipping plots decreased the infiltration coefficients by 0%,5%,and 26%relative to the no clipping *** intensity dominated runoff and infiltration amounts,and clipping intensity's total effect was stronger than slope *** intensity and slope gradient were more influential on runoff with increasing rainfall *** mutual inhibition effect was between clipping intensity and slope gradient on *** order to maintain the sustainability of restoration,a 25-50%vegetation coverage after clipping maximizes the benefits of increasing runoff and maintaining enough soil water supply that prevents possible soil *** propose that future vegetation restoration policies should evaluate the appropriat

The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rocks is a critical index for evaluating the mechanical properties and construction of an engineering rock mass classification *** most commonly used method for determining the UCS in laboratory settings is expensive and *** this reason,UCS can be estimated using an indirect determination method based on several simple laboratory tests,including point-load strength,rock density,longitudinal wave velocity,Brazilian tensile strength,Schmidt hardness,and shore *** this study,six data sets of indices for different rock types were utilized to predict the UCS using three nonlinear combination models,namely back propagation(BP),particle swarm optimization(PSO),and least squares support vector machine(LSSVM).Moreover,the best prediction model was examined and selected based on four performance prediction *** results reveal that the PSO–LSSVM model was more successful than the other two models due to its higher performance *** ratios of the predicted UCS to the measured UCS for the six data sets were 0.954,0.982,0.9911,0.9956,0.9995,and 0.993,*** results were more reasonable when the predicted ratio was close to a value of approximately 1.

Particle-fluid transport and placement mechanism in tortuous fracture played a crucial role in uncon-ventional ***,most studies focused on mono-size proppant with fluid transport pro-cesses in tortuous ***,the mixture-size proppant with fluid movement mechanism in tortuous fracture was still ***,this study designed and applied a series of experiments with a physical analog model of a tortuous fracture with 120°and 90°-angled bends and combined high-speed camera-based *** experimental system was used to track different-mixture-sized proppant particle motion trajectories for a series of proppant injection schemes;The following conclu-sions were drawn from this study:*** pile-up processes mechanism in all investigated schemes were similar and could be reduced to four main *** packing structure at both sides of the fracture wall had different variation rates,which were controlled by the mix ratio(change from 1∶1-1∶5)of proppant *** new packing patterns,such as Zebra Stripe,had occurred,controlled by the different proppant injection ***-sized mono-proppant(30/50 mesh)had the highest transport efficiency in the tortuous fracture,followed by the mixed-sized multi-proppant(10/20 mesh:30/50 mesh),large-sized proppant(10/20 mesh)was the *** optimized alternating in-jection mode was recommended as injecting small-sized proppant first(30/50 mesh)and followed by mixed-sized multi-proppant(10/20 mesh:30/50 mesh),which could contribute to obtaining the optimal both proppant packing height and travel distance in tortuous *** correlations were devel-oped for predicting the proppant packing height and transportation distance.

Physical Layer Encryption of OFDM-PON Based on Quantum Noise Stream Cipher with Polar Code

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing passive optical network(OFDM-PON) has superior anti-dispersion property to operate in the C-band of fiber for increased optical power budget. However,the downlink broadcast exposes the physical layer vulnerable to the threat of illegal eavesdropping. Quantum noise stream cipher(QNSC) is a classic physical layer encryption method and well compatible with the OFDM-PON. Meanwhile, it is indispensable to exploit forward error correction(FEC) to control errors in data transmission. However, when QNSC and FEC are jointly coded, the redundant information becomes heavier and thus the code rate of the transmitted signal will be largely reduced. In this work, we propose a physical layer encryption scheme based on polar-code-assisted QNSC. In order to improve the code rate and security of the transmitted signal, we exploit chaotic sequences to yield the redundant bits and utilize the redundant information of the polar code to generate the higher-order encrypted signal in the QNSC scheme with the operation of the *** experimentally demonstrate the encrypted 16/64-QAM, 16/256-QAM, 16/1024-QAM, 16/4096-QAM QNSC signals transmitted over 30-km standard single mode fiber. For the transmitted 16/4096-QAM QNSC signal, compared with the conventional QNSC method, the proposed method increases the code rate from 0.1 to 0.32 with enhanced security.

Epiphytic zooplankton community profiles in a typical urban wetland as revealed by DNA metabarcoding

Zooplankton,a crucial component of urban wetland,are one of the effective bioindicators for monitoring the feeding stocks of organisms at higher trophic levels and assessing the ecological quality of ***,information about the characteristics of epiphytic zooplankton community structure resulted from traditional methods is limited and hindered by the large amount of detritus and sludge attached to the *** investigated the epiphytic zooplankton communities associated with macrophytes(Vallisneria,Nymphaea,and Thalia dealbata)in a subtropical wetland using as DNA markers of the 18 S rRNA gene and the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI)gene.A total of 241 OTUs of zooplankton were obtained from COI amplicons,including 194 OTUs of Rotifera,22 of Cladocera,and 25 of Copepoda,while only 62 OTUs of zooplankton were obtained from 18 S rDNA amplicons including 34 OTUs of Rotifera and 28 of *** zooplankton communities associated with the three macrophytes were similar,but they differed significantly from those in the open ***,there were no significant temporal differences among the zooplankton *** zooplankton communities were dominated by littoral zooplankton such as Testudinella,Lecane,and ***,especially littoral species,utilize macrophytes as food sources and as refuges against *** further led to an increase inαandβdiversity of zooplankton communities in urban *** result suggests that the joint use of multiple molecular markers could improve the taxonomic resolution and generate a comprehensive biodiversity profile of zooplankton.

As a natural organic polymer,xanthan gum(XG)can alleviate the plastic deformation of gel ink under strong stress and realize the reasonable regulation of the rheological properties of gel ***,as the double-helix structure connected by hydrogen bonds cannot resist the mechanical environment of strong stress,XG shows poor shear *** this study,a polymer gel with interpenetrating polymer network structure was prepared by esterifying XG,taking polystyrene maleic anhydride(SMA)as the *** addition to retaining the excellent rheological properties of XG,the generated polymer gel also exhibited high shear *** optimal addition amount of the esterification reaction modifier was determined as mXG:mSMA=5:3 according to the gel ink *** this amount,the viscosity of the modified xanthan gum(SXG)gel increased to 1578.8 mPa·s and 100.7 mPa·s at shear rates of 4 s1 and 383 s1,respectively,and the shear resistance increased more than 2 times compared to the unmodified *** is because of the ester bond formed by esterification that the reaction strengthens the interaction between molecular segments,enabling the new gel to resist to strong mechanical *** new polymer gel studied in this paper and the proposed mechanism of action provide new insights for the development of high-end gel ink and also provide theoretical support for the study of rheological properties of non-Newtonian fluids.

Oil leakages cause environmental pollution,economic losses,and even engineering safety *** cold regions,researchers urgently investigate the movement of oil spill in soils exposed to freeze-thaw *** this study,a series of laboratory model experiments were carried out on the migration of oil leakage under freeze-thaw action,and the distributions of the soil temperature,unfrozen water content,and displacement were *** results showed that under freeze-thaw action,liquid water in soils migrated to the freezing front and *** the pipe cracked,oil pollutants first gathered at one side of the leak hole,and then moved *** pipe wall temperature affected the soil temperature field,and the thermal influence range below and transverse the pipe wall(35–40 cm)was larger than that above the pipe wall(8 cm)owing to the soil surface *** leaked oil's temperature would make the temperature of the surrounding soil *** would inhibit the cooling of the ***,oil migration was significantly affected by the gravity and water flow *** freeze-thaw action would affect the migration of the oil,which was mainly manifested as inhibiting the diffusion and movement of oil when soils were *** water transport caused by freeze-thaw cycles would also inhibit oil *** research results would provide a scientific reference for understanding the relationship between the movement of oil pollutants,water,and soil temperature,and for establishing a waterheat-mass transport model in frozen soils.

Perovskite oxides has been attracted much attention as high-performance oxygen carriers for chemical looping reforming of methane,but they are easily inactivated by the presence of trace H_(2)***,we propose to modulate both the activity and resistance to sulfur poisoning by dual substitution of Mo and Ni ions with the Fe-sites of LaFeO_(3)*** is found that partial substitution of Ni for Fe substantially improves the activity of LaFeO_(3)perovskite,while Ni particles prefer to grow and react with H_(2)S during the long-term successive redox process,resulting in the deactivation of oxygen *** the presence of Mo in LaNi_(0.05)Fe_(0.95)O_(3−σ)perovskite,H_(2)S preferentially reacts with Mo to generate MoS_(2),and then the CO_(2)oxidation can regenerate Mo via removing *** addition,Mo can inhibit the accumulation and growth of Ni,which helps to improve the redox stability of oxygen *** LaNi_(0.05)Mo_(0.07)Fe_(0.88)O_(3−σ)oxygen carrier exhibits stable and excellent performance,with the CH_(4)conversion higher than 90%during the 50 redox cycles in the presence of 50 ppm H_(2)S at 800℃.This work highlights a synergistic effect in the perovskite oxides induced by dual substitution of different cations for the development of high-performance oxygen carriers with excellent sulfur tolerance.

Pd-based metallic nanosheets with advanced physicochemical properties have been widely prepared and employed in various electrocatalytic ***,few concerns were focused on their multiple performances in different ***,highly curved and ultrathin PdNiRu nanosheets(NSs)are developed by facile wet-chemistry strategy and exhibit excellent electrocatalytic performance toward both oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and ethylene glycol oxidation reaction(EGOR).Owing to the synergistically structural(e.g.,ultrathin,curved,defects/steps-rich)and compositional(ternary alloy)advantages,PdNiRu NSs exhibited enhanced ORR and EGOR specific/mass activities and better stability/durability than control *** specific activity(5.52 mA·cm^(−2))and mass activity(1.13 A·mg_(Pd)^(−1))of the PdNiRu NSs in ORR are 4.8 and 3.4 times as the ones of commercial Pt/C,*** mass activity of PdNiRu NSs(3.86 A·mg_(Pd)^(−1))in EGOR is 2.6 times as commercial Pd/C(1.51 A·mg_(Pd)^(−1)).This study is helpful for the development of desired electrocatalysts with multi-functional application in practical fuel cells.
