Enhanced interfacial charge transfer on Bi metal@defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_(7) quantum dots towards improved full-spectrum photocatalysis:A combined experimental and theoretical investigation

To mitigate the water pollution problem by photocatalytic degradation of typical antibiotics of tetracycline(TC),we prepared defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_7(BSO)quantum dots(QDs)with a full spectral response due to Bi metal deposition,using a one-pot hydrothermal method,labeled as Bi@BSO-OV.The optimized Bi@BSOOV showed 73.4% removal of TC in 1 h under irradiation with a 50 W LED lamp in the wavelength band in the visible-near-infrared(vis-NIR)light,a rate that is substantially greater than that of pure BSO(14.7%).The synergistic interaction of Bi metal and oxygen vacancies(OVs)is crucial to boosting photocatalytic performance.The near-infrared region of the photo-response is extended by the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)effect of Bi metal,enhancing the photocatalytic performance and dramatically raising the efficiency of solar energy utilization.In addition to inducing defect levels in BSO,the OVs also activate the surface adsorbed O_(2) to promote the production of·O_(2)^(-)and ^(1)O_(2).DFT calculations reveal that Bi metal and OVs can mutually tune the charge transfer pathways.On the one hand,Bi metal can act as both a charge transfer bridge and an electron donor to assist charge separation.On the other hand,OVs-induced defect levels allow electrons that leap to the conduction band(CB)to first leap from the valence band(VB)to the defect levels,notably improving interfacial charge separation and transfer.The concept of design executed in this study for altering the catalyst by introducing both OVs and Bi metal can provide a rational design idea and potential insight for improving the photocatalytic activity for environmental applications.

Astronomical Cycles of the Late Permian Lopingian in South China and Their Implications for Third-Order Sea-Level Change

The late Permian(Lopingian)was a crucial climate transition period from the late Paleozoic Ice Age to the early Triassic of exceptionally high temperatures.However,the origins of the third-order sea-level changes during the Lopingian Epoch remain unclear.Here,we presented astronomically calibrated gamma-ray(GR)log and non-U GR(computed gamma ray or CGR)curves from the clastic and carbonate successions of well GFD-1 in the Pingle Depression of South China for studying the sea-level oscillations during the Lopingian.Spectral analyses of the 405 kyr-calibrated GR and CGR time data revealed periodicities close to about 405,about 100,about 44.2,about 35.1,about 21,and about 17.5 kyr,supporting the existence of Milankovitch forcing in the sedimentary records.A high-resolution astronomical time scale and high-resolution sedimentation rate curve of the Lopingian from well GFD-1 were constructed by cyclostratigraphic analysis.The eccentricity and obliquity amplitude modulation cycles suggested long periodicities of about 2.4 and about 1.2 myr,respectively.In the Wuchiapingian greenhouse of the Lopingian,the about 2.4 myr eccentricity oscillation controlled‘weak’glacio-eustasy and/or aquifer eustatic changes related to the global third-order sea-level changes and that a lowstand(W2)was initiated by an eccentricity oscillation minimum.In contrast,during the Changhsingian,which exhibited a cooling event,an about 1.2 myr obliquity cycle was probably strong,with the sea-level records highlighting the link between the‘icehouse’sea-level lowering(C2 and C1)and the obliquity nodes.Moreover,dynamic sedimentary noise model as an indicator of sea-level showed local third-order sea-level variations,the coevolution trends in the orbital power,global and local sea-level changes,and sedimentation rate had significant implications for establishing the global nature and synchronicity of these million-year-scale eustatic records and reconstructing the temporal depositional history at a regional scale.In addition,the volcanism and tectonism

Bifunctional TiO_(2-x)nanofibers enhanced gel polymer electrolyte for high performance lithium metal batteries

Exploration of advanced gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs)represents a viable strategy for mitigating dendritic lithium(Li)growth,which is crucial in ensuring the safe operation of high energy density Li metal batteries(LMBs).Despite this,the application of GPEs is still hindered by inadequate ionic conductivity,low Li^(+)transference number,and subpar physicochemical properties.Herein,Ti O_(2-x)nanofibers(NF)with oxygen vacancy defects were synthesized by a one-step process as inorganic fillers to enhance the thermal/mechanical/ionic-transportation performances of composite GPEs.Various characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the oxygen vacancies on the surface of Ti O_(2-x)NF accelerate the dissociation of Li PF_6,promote the rapid transfer of free Li^(+),and influence the formation of Li F-enriched solid electrolyte interphase.Consequently,the composite GPEs demonstrate enhanced ionic conductivity(1.90m S cm^(-1)at room temperature),higher lithium-ion transference number(0.70),wider electrochemical stability window(5.50 V),superior mechanical strength,excellent thermal stability(210℃),and improved compatibility with lithium,resulting in superior cycling stability and rate performance in both Li||Li,Li||Li Fe PO_(4),and Li||Li Ni_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)cells.Overall,the synergistic influence of nanofiber morphology and enriched oxygen vacancy structure of fillers on electrochemical properties of composite GPEs is comprehensively investigated,thus,it is anticipated to shed new light on designing high-performance GPEs LMBs.

Cathode interfacial materials(CIMs)stand as critical elemental in organic solar cells(OSCs),which can align energy levels,and foster ohmic contacts between the cathode and active layer of the OSCs.Nevertheless,the lagging advancement in CIMs has concurrently engendered the oversight of theoretical inquiries pertaining to the impact of molecular structure on their performance.Delving into this realm,we present two propeller-shaped isomers,4,4',4''-(benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':5,6-b'']trithiophene-2,5,8-triyl)tris(2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione)(3ONIN)and 6,6',6''-(benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':5,6-b'']trithiophene-2,5,8-triyl)tris(2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione)(3PNIN),distinguished by their molecular planarity,as a promising foundation for crafting highly efficient OSCs.This study illuminates the superiority of 3PNIN with more plane structure,exemplified by its enhanced molar extinction coefficient,deeper lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)and highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)energy levels,intensified self-doping effect,heightened electron mobility,and elevated conductivity,in comparison to its counterpart,3ONIN.As a result,3PNIN and 3ONIN-treated OSC devices yield efficiencies of 17.73%and 16.82%,respectively.This finding serves as a compelling validation of the critical role played by molecular planarity in influencing CIM performance.

Formulation of a new ocean salinity boundary condition and impact on the simulated climate of an oceanic general circulation model

The salinity boundary condition at the ocean surface plays an important role in the stability of long-term integrations of an oceanic general circulation model(OGCM) and in determining its equilibrium solutions.This study presents a new formulation of the salt flux calculation at the ocean surface based on physical processes of salt exchange at the air-sea interface.The formulation improves the commonly used virtual salt flux with constant reference salinity by allowing for spatial correlations between surface freshwater flux and sea-surface salinity while preserving the conservation of global salinity.The new boundary condition is implemented in the latest version of the National Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics/Institute of Atmospheric Physics Climate Ocean Model version 2(LICOM2.0).The impact of the new boundary condition on the equilibrium simulations of the model is presented.It is shown that the new formulation leads to a stronger Atlantic meridional overturning circulation(AMOC) that is closer to observational estimates.It also slightly improves poleward heat transport by the oceans in both the Atlantic and the global oceans.

EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION ON MODULUS OF EQUIVALENT HOMOGENEOUS ETTRINGITE

In the present study, the average modulus of delayed ettringite is evaluated by an experimental method combined with theoretical analysis. Firstly, the delayed ettringite crystal is synthesized by chemical reaction of Aluminum sulfate and calcium hydroxide. Secondly, specimens are obtained by compressing the delayed ettringite crystal under different pre-loads. Thirdly, the variation of the modulus of the specimen with different pre-loads is tested using Instron material test machine and the SHPB technique, respectively. It is found that the experimental data may be suitably fitted by Boltzmann Function. Finally, the porosity of the specimen is detected using the saturation method, and the effect of the porosity on the modulus is analyzed by the Eshelby＇s equivalent inclusion method and the Mori-Tanaka＇s scheme. The static and dynamic modulli of the equivalent homogeneous ettringite obtained in present study are approximately 10.64 GPa and 24.61 GPa, respectively.

Identification of dominant climate factor for pan evaporation trend in the Tibetan Plateau

Despite the observed increase in global temperature, observed pan evaporation in many regions has been decreasing over the past 50 years, which is known as the ＂pan evaporation paradox＂. The ＂pan evaporation paradox＂ also exists in the Tibetan Plateau, where pan evaporation has decreased by 3.06 mm a-2 （millimeter per annum）. It is necessary to explain the mechanisms behind the observed decline in pan evaporation because the Tibetan Plateau strongly influences climatic and environmental changes in China, Asia and even in the Northern Hemisphere. In this paper, a derivation based approach has been used to quantitatively assess the contribution rate of climate factors to the observed pan evaporation trend across the Tibetan Plateau. The results showed that, provided the other factors remain constant, the increasing temperature should have led to a 2.73 mm a-2 increase in pan evaporation annually, while change in wind speed, vapor pressure and solar radiation should have led to a decrease in pan evaporation by 2.81 mm a-2, 1.96 mm a-2 and 1.11 mm a-2 respectively from 1970 to 2005. The combined effects of the four climate variables have resulted in a 3.15 mm a-2 decrease in pan evaporation, which is close to the observed pan evaporation trend with a relative error of 2.94%. A decrease in wind speed was the dominant factor for the decreasing pan evaporation, followed by an increasing vapor pressure and decreasing solar radiation, all of which offset the effect of increasing temperature across the Tibetan Plateau.

Iterative hybrid decoding algorithm for LDPC codes based on attenuation factor

An attenuated iterative reliability-based major- ity-logic （AIML） decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check （LDPC） codes is proposed, which pertains to hybrid decoding schemes. The algorithm is devised based on the orthogonal check-sums of one-step majority- logic （OSMLG） decoding algorithm in conjunction with certain of reliability measures of the received symbols. Computation of reliability measure of the syndrome sum is refined by introducing an attenuation factor. Simulation results show that, in binary-input additive white Gaussian noise （BI-AWGN） channel, the AIML decoding algorithm outperforms other popular iterative reliability-based major- ity-logic （IML） decoding algorithms with a slight increase in computational complexity. Within maximum iteration number of 5, the AIML algorithm can achieve almost identical error performance to sum-product algorithm （SPA）. No error floor effect can be observed for the AIML algorithm down to the bit error rate （BER） of 10- s, while error floor appears for SPA around the BER of 10 7 even with maximum iteration number of 100. Furthermore, the inherent feature of parallel procession for AIML algorithm enforces the decoding speed in contrast to those serial decoding schemes, such as weighted bit-flipping （WBF） algorithm.
