A transcriptional cascade mediated by two APETALA2 family members orchestrates carotenoid biosynthesis in tomato

Carotenoids are important nutrients for human health that must be obtained from plants since they cannot be biosynthesized by the human body. Dissecting the regulatory mechanism of carotenoid metabolism in plants represents the first step toward manipulating carotenoid contents in plants by molecular design breeding. In this study, we determined that SlAP2c, an APETALA2(AP2) family member, acts as a transcriptional repressor to regulate carotenoid biosynthesis in tomato(Solanum lycopersicum).Knockout of SlAP2c in both the “Micro Tom” and“Ailsa Craig” backgrounds resulted in greater lycopene accumulation, whereas overexpression of this gene led to orange-ripe fruit with significantly lower lycopene contents than the wild type. We established that SlAP2c represses the expression of genes involved in lycopene biosynthesis by directly binding to the cis-elements in their promoters.Moreover, SlAP2c relies on its EAR motif to recruit the co-repressors TOPLESS(TPL)2/4 and forms a complex with histone deacetylase(had)1/3, thereby reducing the histone acetylation levels of lycopene biosynthesis genes. Furthermore, SlAP2a, a homolog of SlAP2c, acts upstream of SlAP2c and alleviates the SlAP2c-induced repression of lycopene biosynthesis genes by inhibiting SlAP2c transcription during fruit ripening. Therefore, we identified a transcriptional cascade mediated by AP2 family members that regulates lycopene biosynthesis during fruit ripening in tomato, laying the foundation for the manipulation of carotenoid metabolism in plants.

This two-part paper presents methods to predict,characterize and ensure the stability of data center power systems based on impedance analysis.The work was motivated by recent power system resonance incidents in new data centers.Part I presents new input impedance models for single-phase power supply units(PSUs)to enable this application.Existing impedance models of single-phase PSU cannot meet the requirements of this application because they exclude DC voltage control that affects system stability at low frequency,or are in a dq reference frame that cannot handle the complexity of data center power systems.The developed new models include DC bus dynamics and are directly in the phase domain to simplify system stability analysis,avoiding the need for multiple-input-multiple-output(MIMO)system models and the generalized Nyquist criterion that are difficult to apply but necessary with dq-frame models.Both the converter and system level models also include the coupled current response that is characteristic of AC-DC converters and important for system stability at low frequency.The simple form of the models and system stability analysis directly in the phase domain also make it possible to develop new PSU design methods and performance specifications that together will ensure the stability of new data center power systems.The developed models are validated by laboratory measurements and are used in Part II of the work to study data center power system stability.

Keemun black tea stems and leaves: Comparison of chemical characterization and anti-inflammatory activities

This work aims to compare the chemical composition and anti-inflammatory effects on RAW264.7 macrophages of Keemun black tea stems and leaves. Fifty volatile compounds were identified in tea stems and leaves， and aldehydes， alcohols， and esters were the main volatile compound categories. Eleven key volatile compounds， including geraniol， phenylacetaldehyde， methyl salicylate， linalool， etc. contributed to distinguishing the tea stems from the tea leaves. In the quantitative and LC-MS-based metabolomics analysis， higher contents of amino acids， monosaccharides， and quinic acid were found in stems than in leaves. Inversely， higher contents of tea pigments， flavan-3-ols， gallic acid， purine alkaloids， and flavonol glycosides were present in tea leaves than in stems. LC-MS-based metabolomics also revealed that organic acids were the most critical non-volatile compounds responsible for the differences between tea stems and leaves. Furthermore， tea stems had better inhibiting effects of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and IL-6) in lipopolysaccharide-challenged RAW264.7 macrophages than tea leaves， while no significant differences exist between leaves and stems for inhibiting the secretion of TNF-α and NO. In conclusion， our results support using Keemun black tea stems as a novel source of anti-inflammatory compounds.

For a finite group G, it is denoted by N（G） the set of conjugacy class sizes of G. In 1980s, J. G. Thompson posed the following conjecture： if L is a finite nonabelian simple group, G is a finite group with trivial center, and N（G） = N（L）, then L and G are isomorphic. In this paper, it is proved that Thompson＇s conjecture is true for the alternating group A22 with connected prime graph.

The Mesozoic intrusions of the Jiaodong Peninsula,eastern China,host giant gold deposits.Understanding the genesis of these deposits requires the determination of the source of the parental auriferous fluid and the timing of gold mineralization,which are strongly influenced by the cooling/uplift histories of the hosting intrusions.We performed an integrated U-Pb geochronology study on both zircon and apatite from four major magmatic episodes of the Jiaodong Peninsula.The zircon and apatite U-Pb ages are 156.9±1.2 and 137.2±2.4 Ma for the Linglong intrusion,129.9±1.0 and 125.0±3.8 Ma for the Qujia intrusion,119.5±0.7 and 117.2±1.8 Ma for the Liulinzhuang intrusion,118.6±1.0 and 111.6±1.6 Ma for the Nansu intrusion,respectively.The coupled zircon and apatite data of these granitoids indicate a slow cooling rate(11.9°C/Ma)in the Late Jurassic,and rapid uplift and cooling(35.8-29.2°C/Ma)in the Early Cretaceous.The dramatically increased uplift and cooling period in the Early Cretaceous are contemporaneous with large-scale gold mineralization in the Jiaodong Peninsula.This implies that thermal upwelling of asthenosphere and related tectonic extension played an important role in gold remobilization and precipitation.

提出一种拓扑荷数为2的全介质一维光子晶体拓扑微分运算器件。通过优化设计光子晶体的透射率与入射角度的依赖关系以及出/入射光的偏振状态,该拓扑器件可以对入射光场进行各向同性的二维二阶光学微分运算,进而实现图像边缘增强成像和图像边缘信息高效提取。该平面型拓扑微分运算器件具有轻量化、高通量、高速度、易于大规模集成、低成本制备等特点,在光学计算、光学成像与传感等领域具有潜在的应用价值。

An unprecedented copper nitrate-mediated bond cleavage of alkynes was developed for the modular synthesis of isoxazoles,where either C—S bond or C≡C triple bond was cleaved selectively.Substituents attached to the C≡C triple bonds could differentiate the chemical bonds cleavage and reaction pathways disparately.Various transformations of products illustrate promising applications of the given protocols.

叔孙通是汉初礼乐重建的关键人物,此时的朝会仪、宗庙乐和仪品均由其主导完成。《汉书·礼乐志》将其所制的汉家宗庙乐之《武德舞》《文始舞》系于汉四年(前203)和汉六年(前201)并不准确,此事应发生在惠帝即位后叔孙通第二次担任太常期间。汉初的宗庙礼乐乃是仿效秦制所作,主要适用于长安的太上皇庙、高祖庙,以及各地的郡国庙。正是经叔孙通的努力,汉初的宗庙音乐呈现出崇雅用俗、礼法兼杂的复合样态。

《荀子·性恶》篇有“纵性情安恣睢而违礼义者为小人”“从其性顺其情安恣睢,以出乎贪利争夺”“以秦人之从情性安恣睢,慢于礼义故也”说,《非十二子》篇有“纵情性安恣睢禽兽行,不足以合文通治”说。人们多以这里“安”字为实词,训为“安于”“习惯于”,将“纵(从)性情”与“安恣睢”断开,标点为“纵(从)性情,安恣睢”。通过文例的比较、语义的分析,认为这四例“安”字都是连词,相当于“而”;“安恣睢”应与上文连读,不应断开。“安”作连词用,《国语》较早,《逸周书》《管子》《墨子》《大戴礼记》《战国策》《战国纵横家书》《吕氏春秋》等“时有所见”。汉代以后没有发现类似用法。《荀子》书却高达四十多例。说明“安”作连词用是《荀子》书语言上的一个区别性特征。从“安”字作连词的语言习惯看,《荀子·性恶》篇不伪,与《非十二子》篇一样,都应是战国时期的作品,应该是荀子亲著,不可能是汉人所为。这与《荀子》书“伪”“綦”两字的特殊用法所反映出来的事实是一致的。
