A cross-sectional study on compliance with topical glaucoma medication and its associated socioeconomic burden for a Chinese population

AIM： To estimate the overall drug compliance for local Chinese glaucoma patients on long-term topical ***： This was a retrospective cross-sectional ***-seven primary glaucoma patients from the subspecialty clinic of a publicly-funded tertiary care hospital in Hong Kong completed a questionnaire on compliance with topical glaucoma medication,attitude towards glaucoma and therapy and vision related quality of *** was defined as reporting missing more than or equal to 10% of the prescribed topical glaucoma medication during the 2wk immediately prior to the *** between noncompliance and demographics,attitude,disease and treatment status was *** was estimated with quality of life and direct medical cost involved with *** logistic regression on noncompliance was performed on selected ***： Compliance was calculated as 75%（95% CI： 64%-87%） among 57 subjects（mean age 69 y,female 51%）.No statistical significant relationship was established between noncompliance and any single factors or ***（P=0.048） and forgetfulness（P=0.064） were found to be marginally significant predictive factors on noncompliance in multivariable logistic *** might be related（P=0.130） to poorer self-rated vision-associated quality of *** societal cost of noncompliance was estimated to be over 2510 life-years and US$ 3.7 million ***： The compliance of Chinese glaucoma patients in Hong Kong is comparable to other parts in the world,and carries detrimental impacts on individual and societal *** and forgetfulness are two possible independent predictors for noncompliance.

Interpretable prediction of drug-cell line response by triple matrix factorization

Background:One of the challenges in personalized medicine is to determine specific drugs and their dosages for patient individuals who are undergoing a common *** technique of cell lines provides a safe approach to capture the drug responses of patient individuals when given specific drugs with varied ***,it is still costly to determine drug responses in cells w.r.t dosages by biological *** methods provide a promising screening to infer possible drug responses in the cells of patient individuals on a large ***,existing computational approaches are insufficient to interpret the underlying reason for drug ***:In this work,we propose an interpretable model for analyzing and predicting drug responses across cell *** proposed model bridges drug features(e.g.f chemical structure fingerprints),cell features(e.g.f gene expression profiles),and drug responses across cells(measured by IC50)by a triple matrix factorization(TMF),such that the underlying reason for drug responses in specific cells is possibly ***'.The comparison with state-of-the-art computational approaches demonstrates the superiority of our *** importantly,a case study of drug responses in lung-related cell lines shows its interpretable ability to find out highly occurring drug substructures,crucial mutated genes,as well as significant pairs between substructures and mutated genes in terms of drug sensitivity and ***:TMF is an effective and interpretable approach for predicting cell lines responses to drugs,and can dig out crucial pairs of chemical substructures and genes,which uncovers the underlying reason for drug responses in specific cells.

Recyclability and self-healing are two most critical factors in developing sustainable polymers to deal with environmental pollution and resource *** this work,a dynamic cross-linked polyimide insulation film with full closed-loop recyclability is successfully prepared,which also possesses good self-healing ability after being mechanical/electrical damaged depending on the Schiff base dynamic covalent *** recycled and self-healed polyimide film still maintain its good tensile strength(r t)>60 MPa with Young’s modulus(E)>4 GPa,high thermal stability with glass transition temperature(T g)>220℃,and outstanding insulation property with breakdown strength(E 0)>358 kV mm^(-1),making it a very promising low energy consumption and high temperature resistant insulation *** strategy of using Schiff base dynamic covalent bonds for reversible repairing the structure of high T g polyimides promotes the wider application of such sustainable and recyclable material in the field of electrical power and micro-electronics.

RECOMBINANT TISSUE-PLASMINOGEN ACTIVATOR(rt-PA)IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION IN THE CHINESEIN HONG KONG

Eighty-nine consecutive Chinese patients(69males,20 females)with acute myocardial infarctiontreated by 100 mg recombinant tissue-plasminogenactivator(rt-PA)(7 intracoronarily,82 intravenously)at 3.7±1.0 hours after onset,and intravenous heparinor dipyridamole therapy started at 3 hours,were stu-died *** mean age was 59.6±***-six patients(51.7%)had anterior and 39patients(43.8%)had inferior *** evi-dence of reperfusion was seen in 63 patients(72.8%),while new complications included hypotension(5.6%),heart failure(6.7%),cardiac arrhythmias(76.4%),hematoma around vascular access sites(23.6%),melena(2.2%)and cerebral infarction(2.2%).Maximal changes in coagulation profiles were seen at3 hours,including a decrease in fibrinogen(by 64.2%),an increase in FDP by 11.7 times and D-dimers by *** patients(10.1%)had recurrence of anginaand 6 patients(6.9%)died due to pump failure(5)andreinfarction(1).Angiogram at 14 days confirmedTIMI(2 or 3)patency of infarct related arteries in62/81(76.5%)patients,with a mean global ejectionfraction of 52.5±12.4%.Nearly all survivors couldmaintain class Ⅰ-Ⅱ functional status after *** safety and promises of rt-PA for acutemyocardial infarction in the Chinese were confirmed.

Review of Feynman’s Path Integral in Quantum Statistics:from the Molecular Schrödinger Equation to Kleinert’s Variational Perturbation Theory

Feynman’s path integral reformulates the quantum Schrödinger differential equation to be an integral *** has been being widely used to compute internuclear quantum-statistical effects on many-body molecular *** this Review,the molecular Schrödinger equation will first be introduced,together with the BornOppenheimer approximation that decouples electronic and internuclear *** effective semiclassical potentials,e.g.,centroid potential,which are all formulated in terms of Feynman’s path integral,will be discussed and *** semiclassical potentials can be used to directly calculate the quantum canonical partition function without individual Schrödinger’s energy *** a result,path integrations are conventionally performed with Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics sampling *** complement these techniques,we will examine how Kleinert’s variational perturbation(KP)theory can provide a complete theoretical foundation for developing non-sampling/non-stochastic methods to systematically calculate centroid *** enable the powerful KP theory to be practical for many-body molecular systems,we have proposed a new path-integral method:automated integrationfree path-integral(AIF-PI)*** to the integration-free and computationally inexpensive characteristics of our AIF-PI method,we have used it to perform ab initio path-integral calculations of kinetic isotope effects on proton-transfer and RNA-related phosphoryl-transfer chemical *** computational procedure of using our AIF-PI method,along with the features of our new centroid path-integral theory at the minimum of the absolute-zero energy(AMAZE),are also highlighted in this review.

SPCS: Secure and Privacy-Preserving Charging-Station Searching using VANET

Electric vehicle has attracted more and more attention all around the world in recent years because of its many advantages such as low pollution to the environment. However, due to the limitation of current technology, charging remains an important issue. In this paper, we study the problem of finding and making reservation on charging stations via a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). Our focus is on the privacy concern as drivers would not like to be traced by knowing which charging stations they have visited. Technically, we make use of the property of blind signature to achieve this goal. In brief, an electric vehicle first generates a set of anonymous credentials on its own. A trusted authority then blindly signs on them after verifying the identity of the vehicle. After that, the vehicle can make charging station searching queries and reservations by presenting those signed anonymous credentials. We implemented the scheme and show that the credential signing process (expected to be the most time consuming step) can be completed within reasonable time when the parameters are properly set. In particular, the process can be completed in 5 minutes when 1024 bits of RSA signing key is used. Moreover, we show that our scheme is secure in terms of authentication and privacy-preserving.

A Harmony-Based Approach to Student Diversity
