Objective:To evaluate the relationship between preoperative grade and postoperative changes of semen parameters following left inguinal ***:This study included 44 patients undergoing left microsurgical inguinal *** spermatic veins were classified as large(4 mm or more in diameter),medium(2-4 mm),or small(2 mm or less).Changes in sperm activity,morphology and count were estimated *** introperative findings and semen parameters were compared between varicocele groups of grades 2 and ***:Both sperm motility and count improved significantly postoperatively(from(31.9±16.3)%to(47.3±15.5)%,from(28.1±28.1)106/mL to(52.1±74.2)×10^6/mL).In varicoceles with grade 2 and 3,significant differences were found in the number of large veins(0.4±0.6 vs.1.2±0.7,p<0.001)and ultrasonographic maximum diameters of spermatic vein in supine and standing positions(2.3±0.4 cm vs.2.8±0.6 cm,3.1±0.7 cm vs.3.9±0.7 cm,p=0.001 and 0.001 respectively).However no difference of changes in sperm motility and count was detected((16.3±13.5)%vs.(14.4±12.6)%,(30.5±84.4)×10^6/mL vs.(12.9±20.6)×10^6/mL respectively,p=0.65 and 0.40 respectively).Conclusion:Preoperative varicocele grade might not predict postoperative semen changes regardless of possible existence of anatomic and ultrasonographic associations.

The microanatomy of the inguinal spermatic cords has never been reported in Asia. The purpose of this study was to describe the number and relationship of the veins, arteries and lymphatics in the spermatic cord and to clarify the location of the vas deferens in Asian men. Fifty-one patients receiving 79 primary microsurgical varicocelectomies performed by a single surgeon from April 2011 to July 2012 were studied. The number of internal and external spermatic veins, testicular arteries and lymphatic channels preserved during the inguinal microsurgical varicocelectomy were recorded. The relationship between the right and left vascular anatomy during bilateral varicocelectomies was evaluated. The data showed that mean numbers of 1.5±0.9 arteries, 5.6±2.2 spermatic veins and 3.6±1.9 lymphatics were identified during the repairs. The internal spermatic arteries were surrounded by a dense complex of adherent veins in 81.2% of the cases. The external spermatic vein or veins were found in 60.8% of the cases. The vas deferens may be contained within the internal spermatic fascia. The results suggest that the number of veins may be highly variable and less than those reported in the English literature, but there is some similarity in the inguinal microanatomy of the right and left spermatic cords, Further research is warranted to clarify our results.

The benefit of androgen-deprivation therapy （ADT） in combination with dose-escalated radiotherapy （DERT） for localized prostate cancer has not been determined in randomized studies. In this study, the benefit of ADT was assessed in patients uniformly treated with dose-escalated intensity-modulated radiation therapy （IMRT） to the prostate and seminal vesicles but not pelvis. In all, 419 patients with localized prostate adenocarcinoma underwent definitive IMRT （cumulative dose 78 Gy）, with 32.6%, 33.1%, 32.1%, and 2.1% having T1 through T4 disease, respectively, and 51.2% having high-risk disease. ADT was given to 76.1% of patients. With a median follow-up of 60 months, 5-year biochemical failure-free, disease-free, and overall survival rates were 87%, 86%, and 87%, respectively. T stage was an independent predictor of all three rates. Five-year pelvic nodal recurrence rate was 2.9%. ADT improved biochemical failure-free and disease-free survival but not overall survival. ADT showed benefit in high-risk disease but not intermediate-risk disease. Late gastrointestinal and genitourinary toxicities ≥ grade 2 occurred in 11.0% and 6.7%, respectively. In conclusion, DERT with 78 Gy yields good disease control and low rate of pelvic nodal recurrence. ADT improves disease-free survival in patients with high-risk but not intermediate-risk disease.

The effective construction of electromagnetic(EM)wave absorption materials with thin matching thickness,broad bandwidth,and remarkable absorption is a great solution to EM pollution,which is a hot topic in current environmental *** this study,N-doped reduced graphene oxide(N-rGO)was first prepared using a facile hydrothermal ***,high-purity 1T-MoS_(2)petals were homogeneously anchored to the wrinkled surface of N-rGO to fabricate 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO *** numerous electric di-poles and profuse heterointerfaces in 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO would induced the multiple reflection and scattering of EM waves in a distinct-ive multidimensional structure formed by two-dimensional N-rGO and 1T-MoS_(2)microspheres with plentiful thin nanosheets,remarkable conduction loss derived from the migration of massive electrons in a well-constructed conductive network formed by 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO,and abundant polarization loss(including dipolar polarization loss and interfacial polarization loss).All of these gave the 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO nanocomposites superior EM wave absorption *** effective absorption bandwidth of 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO reached 6.48 GHz with a relatively thin matching thickness of 1.84 mm,and a minimum reflection loss of-52.24 dB was achieved at 3.84 ***,the radar scattering cross-section reduction value of 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO was up to 35.42 dB·m^(2) at 0°,which further verified the huge potential of our fabricated 1T-MoS_(2)@N-rGO nanocomposites in practical applications.

Understanding the ecological evolution is of great significance in addressing the impacts of climate change and human ***,the ecological evolution and its drivers remain inadequately explored in arid and semi-arid *** study took the Helan Mountain,a typical arid and semi-arid area in China,as the study *** adopting an Enhanced Remote Sensing Ecological Index(ERSEI)that integrates the habitat quality(HQ)index with the Remote Sensing Ecological Index(RSEI),we quantified the ecological environment quality of the Helan Mountain during 2010-2022 and analyzed the driving factors behind the *** Component Analysis(PCA)was used to validate the composite ERSEI,enabling the extraction of key features and the reduction of redundant *** results showed that the contributions of first principal component(PC1)for ERSEI and RSEI were 80.23%and 78.72%,respectively,indicating that the ERSEI can provide higher precision and more details than the RSEI in assessing ecological environment ***,the ERSEI in the Helan Mountain exhibited an initial decline followed by an increase from 2010 to 2022,with the average value of ERSEI ranging between 0.298 and ***,the ERSEI showed a trend of being higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast,with high-quality ecological environments mainly concentrated in the western foothills at higher *** centroid of ERSEI shifted northeastward toward Helan County from 2010 to *** and digital elevation model(DEM)emerged as the primary drivers of ERSEI *** study highlights the necessity of using comprehensive monitoring tools to guide policy-making and conservation strategies,ensuring the resilience of fragile ecosystems in the face of ongoing climatic and anthropogenic *** findings offer valuable insights for the sustainable management and conservation in arid and semi-arid ecosystems.

Utilizing a range of techniques including multi-band light curves,softness ratio analysis,structure functions,rms spectra,cross-correlation functions,and ratios of spectra from different intervals,we present a comprehensive study of the complex X-ray spectral variability in Seyfert 1 galaxy Ark 120,through re-analyzing its six XMM-Newton observations taken between 2003 and *** find a clear“softer-when-brighter”trend in the 2–10 ke V power-law component over long timescales,with this trend being timescale dependent,as it is much weaker on shorter timescales,similar to that previously detected in NGC ***,a rare“harder-when-brighter”trend is observed during one exposure,indicating dynamic changes in the spectral variability behavior of the power-law *** exceptional exposure,with the spectral variability indeed marked by a power-law pivoting at an unusually low energy of～2 ke V,suggests intricate variations in the thermal Comptonization processes within the ***,when the data below 2 ke V are included,we identify that the soft excess component adds significant complexity to the spectral variability,such as evidenced by a transition from“harder-when-brighter”to“softer-when-brighter”during another single *** extra complexity arises because the variability of the soft excess sometimes follows and sometimes does not follow the changes in the power-law *** findings underscore the necessity of applying multiple analytic techniques to fully capture the multifaceted spectral variability of AGNs.

Magnitude, spatial patterns and drivers of methane fluxes from coastal salt marshes and mangrove forests in China

Methane（CH4） is a highly potent greenhouse gas due to its high radiative forcing and global warming *** the magnitude, spatial patterns, and drivers of CH4emission from wetlands at the regional scale is crucial for formulating suitable strategies to mitigate future climate change. In this study, we synthesized the CH4flux data reported for major plant communities in the coastal salt marshes and mangrove forests in China and produced a spatial map of CH4fluxes from the mangrove sediments and salt marshes in China based on the results of machine learning models. Moreover, we examined the main drivers of CH4flux from these coastal wetlands and estimated the annual CH4emissions from the salt marshes and mangrove forests in different coastal provinces of China using a bottom-up approach. Our results showed that the mean CH4fluxes from the salt marsh and mangrove ecosystems in China were 2.22±0.29 and 2.26±0.55 mg m-2h-1, respectively. Across China, the total annual CH4emission from salt marshes was 31,179.75 Mg CH4a-1, while that from mangroves was 5,533.97 Mg CH4a-1with the sediments contributing to 12.7%(701.64 Mg CH4a-1) of the total efflux. The salt marshes and mangroves in China accounted for 2.75% and 0.14%–0.15% of the global annual CH4emissions from these two ecosystems,respectively. Moreover, we found that CH4emissions from the salt marshes and mangroves could offset the cooling impact arising from net carbon dioxide uptake by 88% and 53%, respectively, over a 100-year time scale. Mean annual temperature, soil moisture, and soil organic carbon content were the main factors controlling CH4emissions from these coastal ***, we found that CH4fluxes from the salt marshes in China decreased with latitude, which implied a possible increase in marsh CH4emission in response to global warming that should be considered carefully when developing nature-based climate solutions to achieve national goals for carbon neutrality.
