Facile synthesis of NiMn2S4 nanoflakes on nickel foam for high-performance aqueous asymmetric supercapacitors

Supercapacitors display promising electrochemical performance with high power density and excellent cycle stability.However,their low energy density limits their advancement in a broader range of applications.To enhance their energy density,we proposed self-assembled spinel NiMn2S4nanoflakes grown on nickel foam which we successfully prepared by a facile hydrothermal method.The NiMn2S4electrode delivers a high capacitance of 2096.7 F g^(-1)at 1.0 A g^(-1),with an exceptional rate capability(~720.6 F g^(-1)at a very high current density of 100 A g^(-1))and good cycle stability(~85.1%retention of the initial capacitance after 7000 cycles with the Coulombic efficiency around 100%).The as-fabricated asymmetric supercapacitors based on NiMn2S4nanoflakes//active carbon demonstrate an energy density of 73.6 W h kg^(-1)at 800.5 W kg^(-1)and adequate cycling performance of~84.6%capacitance retention at 15 A g^(-1)after 10000 cycles.The results reveal that the nanostructured NiMn2S4is an excellent electrode material for high-performance energy storage applications.

With the exploding prevalence of obesity,many children are at risk of developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Using anthropometric and laboratory parameters,our study aimed to develop a model to quantitatively evaluate liver fat content(LFC)in children with obesity.Methods A well-characterized cohort of 181 children between 5 and 16 years of age were recruited to the study in the Endocrinology Department as the derivation cohort.The external validation cohort comprised 77 children.The assessment of liver fat content was performed using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy.Anthropometry and laboratory metrics were measured in all subjects.B-ultrasound examination was carried out in the external validation cohort.The Kruskal-Wallis test,Spearman bivariate correlation analyses,univariable linear regressions and multivariable linear regression were used to build the optimal predictive model.Results The model was based on indicators including alanine aminotransferase,homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance,triglycerides,waist circumference and Tanner stage.The adjusted R^(2)of the model was 0.589,which presented high sensitivity and specificity both in internal[sensitivity of 0.824,specificity of 0.900,area under curve(AUC)of 0.900 with a 95%confidence interval:0.783–1.000]and external validation(sensitivity of 0.918 and specificity of 0.821,AUC of 0.901 with a 95%confidence interval:0.818–0.984).Conclusions Our model based on five clinical indicators was simple,non-invasive,and inexpensive;it had high sensitivity and specificity in predicting LFC in children.Thus,it may be useful for identifying children with obesity who are at risk for developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Influences of shale microstructure on mechanical properties and bedding fractures distribution

The difference in microstructure leads to the diversity of shale mechanical properties and bedding fractures distribution patterns. In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Longmaxi marine shale and Qingshankou continental shale were studied by X-ray diffractometer(XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) with mineral analysis system, and nanoindentation.Additionally, the typical bedding layers area was properly stratified using Focused Ion Beam(FIB), and the effects of microstructure and mechanical properties on the distribution patterns of bedding fractures were analyzed. The results show that the Longmaxi marine shale sample contains more clay mineral grains, while the Qingshankou continental shale sample contains more hard brittle mineral grains such as feldspar. For Longmaxi marine shale sample, hard brittle minerals with grain sizes larger than 20 μm is18.24% and those with grain sizes smaller than 20 μm is 16.22%. For Qingshankou continental shale sample, hard brittle minerals with grain sizes larger than 20 μm is 40.7% and those with grain sizes smaller than 20 μm is 11.82%. In comparison to the Qingshankou continental shale sample, the Longmaxi marine shale sample has a lower modulus, hardness, and heterogeneity. Laminated shales are formed by alternating coarse-grained and fine-grained layers during deposition. The average single-layer thickness of Longmaxi marine shale sample is greater than Qingshankou continental shale sample. The two types of shale have similar bedding fractures distribution patterns and fractures tend to occur in the transition zone from coarse-grained to fine-grained deposition. The orientation of the fracture is usually parallel to the bedding plane and detour occurs in the presence of hard brittle grains. The fracture distribution density of the Longmaxi marine shale sample is lower than that of the Qingshankou continental shale sample due to the strong heterogeneity of the Qingshankou continental shale. BACKGROUND Posthepatectomy liver failure(PHLF)is one of the most important causes of death following liver resection.Heparin,an established anticoagulant,can protect liver function through a number of mechanisms,and thus,prevent liver failure.AIM To look at the safety and efficacy of heparin in preventing hepatic dysfunction after hepatectomy.METHODS The data was extracted from Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care III(MIMIC-III)v1.4 pinpointed patients who had undergone hepatectomy for liver cancer,subdividing them into two cohorts:Those who were injected with heparin and those who were not.The statistical evaluations used were unpaired ttests,Mann-Whitney U tests,chi-square tests,and Fisher’s exact tests to assess the effect of heparin administration on PHLF,duration of intensive care unit(ICU)stay,need for mechanical ventilation,use of continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT),incidence of hypoxemia,development of acute kidney injury,and ICU mortality.Logistic regression was utilized to analyze the factors related to PHLF,with propensity score matching(PSM)aiming to balance the preoperative disparities between the two groups.RESULTS In this study,1388 patients who underwent liver cancer hepatectomy were analyzed.PSM yielded 213 matched pairs from the heparin-treated and control groups.Initial univariate analyses indicated that heparin potentially reduces the risk of PHLF in both matched and unmatched samples.Further analysis in the matched cohorts confirmed a significant association,with heparin reducing the risk of PHLF(odds ratio:0.518;95%confidence interval:0.295-0.910;P=0.022).Additionally,heparin treatment correlated with improved short-term postoperative outcomes such as reduced ICU stay durations,diminished requirements for respiratory support and CRRT,and lower incidences of hypoxemia and ICU mortality.CONCLUSION Liver failure is an important hazard following hepatic surgery.During ICU care heparin administration has been proved to decrease the occurrence of hepatectomy induced liver

To the Editor:Neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus(NPSLE)is a group of serious complications of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)with poor prognosis and high mortality.^([1])Therefore,identifying risk factors for NPSLE is particularly crucial for the improvement of the outcomes of patients.Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)is currently the imaging test of choice for diagnosing patients with NPSLE.However,almost half of the patients with NPSLE show no abnormalities on conventional MRI.^([2])Therefore,the correlation between neuropsychiatric symptoms,which refer to multiple neuropsychiatric manifestations directly related to SLE,and MRI findings should be urgently studied.In this study,we investigated the clinical features,outcomes,and prognostic factors of NPSLE and analyzed the correlation of neuropsychiatric symptoms with MRI features.

Materials featuring topological energy bands and nontrivial surface states hold significant promise in unlocking unprecedented opportunities for innovating electrocatalytic mechanism. However, it remains a challenge to realize superior topological catalysts which can carry both high catalytic activity and excellent catalytic stability. Here, we propose that a family of Ni-based binary materials hosting fantasying topological conjunct-nodalpoint state and a large nontrivial energy window(NEWD)represents an ideal choice for such superior topological catalysts in hydrogen evolution reaction. The presence of conjunct-nodal-points ensures long Fermi arcs on the surface, thereby enabling an extremely high catalytic activity.The NEWD plays a crucial role in stabilizing the high catalytic activity against external perturbations, such as strain and electron/hole injection. The roles for conjunctnodal-points and NEWD are substantiated by the observable weakening of catalytic performance during topological phase transitions, which result in the removal of the conjunct-nodal-points, NEWD and their corresponding long Fermi arcs. Our work unveils a hidden mechanism and opens a feasible route for developing superior quantum catalysts from novel topology point of view.

Double-exchange(DE) interaction plays an important role in electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction(OER).However,precise achievement of DE interaction often requires foreign dopants or vacancy engineering,leading to destabilization of the catalysts and deterioration of performance.By contrast,the utilization of environmentally friendly,contactless,and continuously adjustable magnetic fields to study the OER process is profitable to avoid aforementioned interference factors and further elucidate the direct relationship_(0.5)between DE interaction and OER activity.Here,by using cobalt hydroxide carbonate(Co(OH)(CO_(3))·xH_(2)O,CoHC) nanostructures as a proof-of-concept study,external magnetic fields are carefully implemented to verify the role of DE interaction during water oxidation reaction.Detailed studies reveal that external magnetic fields effectively enhance the reaction rate of the catalyst,the overpotential decreases from 386 to 355 mV(100 mA·cm^(-2)),while Tafel slopes drastically decline from 93 to 67 mV·dec^(-1)(1.0 T).Moreover,magnetic field increment exhibits robust durability.Through in situ Raman and impedance measurements under external field,it can be found that magnetic field promotes the electron migration between Co^(2+) and Co^(3+) in the CoHC catalysts with the assistance of DE interactions,thus boosting the OER efficiency.

Based on the in-situ self-reduction and chemical stability,graphdiyne（GDY） and graphdiyne oxide（GDYO） are used as trapping agents to investigate the ability for recovering Au3+,Ag+,and Pd2+under different pH values and interfering ions.Under strong acidity at pH=1,these two agents demonstrate high select recovery towards the three precious metal ions,which could be insitu reduced to nanoparticles（NPs）.In addition,superparamagnetic Fe3O4NPs are deposited on the surfaces of GDY and GDYO.The magnetic responses enable GDYFe3O4to recover precious metals conveniently and efficiently by the aid of an external magnetic field.This study also confirms the antibacterial activity of the as-recovered NPs deposited on GDY and GDYO against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus(1 × 10～5 colony-forming unit（CFU）·ml-1),and the antibacterial rates are 100%.This strategy of recovering precious metals and subsequently reusing to combat pathogens will be of great significance for environmental remediation and biomedical applications.

Tourmaline guiding the electric field and dechlorination pathway of 2,3-dichlorophenol by Desulfitobacterium hafniense

The dehalogenation of organohalides has been a research hotspot in bioremediation field;however,the influence of tourmaline,a natural ore that can generate spontaneous electric field,on organohalide-respiring bacteria(OHRB)and their dechlorination process is not well known.In this study,the effect and mechanism of tourmaline on the reductive dechlorination of 2,3-dichlorophenol(2,3-DCP)by Desulfitobacterium hafniense DCB-2Twere explored.The characterization results confirmed that tourmaline had good stability and the optimal dosage of tourmaline was 2.5 g/L,which shortened the total time required for dechlorination reaction to 72 hr.Besides,tourmaline amendment also increased the proportion of 2-chlorophenol(2-CP)from 18%to 30%of end products,while that of 3-CP decreased correspondingly.The theoretical calculations showed that the bond charge of the orthosubstituted chlorine declined from-0.179 to-0.067,and that of meta-substituted chlorine increased from-0.111 to-0.129,which indicated that the spontaneous electric field of tourmaline affected the charge distribution of 2,3-DCP and was more conducive to the generation of 2-CP.Overall,tourmaline with the spontaneous electric field affected the reductive dechlorination pathway of Desulfitobacterium,and the tourmaline-OHRB combining system might serve as a novel strategy for the bioremediation of environments polluted with chlorinated phenols.
