Pancreatic stellate cells promote proliferation and invasiveness of human pancreatic cancer cells via galectin-3

AIM: To investigate the role of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) and galectin-3 (GAL-3) in the proliferation and infiltration of pancreatic cancer cell line SW1990. METHODS: Human pancreatic cancer cell line SW1990 and PSCs were cultured in vitro . Supernatant fluid of cultured PSCs and SW1990 cells was collected. Expression of GAL-3 in SW1990 cells and PSCs was detected by ELISA, RT-PCR and Western blotting. Proliferation of cultured PSCs and SW1990 cells was measured by 3-(4, 5-methylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and flow cytometry. Infiltration of SW1990 cells was detected by a cell infiltration kit. RESULTS: SW1990 cells expressed GAL-3 and this was up-regulated by the supernatant fluid of cultured PSCs. PSCs did not express GAL-3. SW1990 cells stimulated proliferation of PSCs via GAL-3. GAL-3 antibody inhibited SW1990 cell proliferation, while the supernatant fluid of PSCs stimulated proliferation of SW1990 cells through interaction with GAL-3 protein. The supernatant fluid of PSCs enhanced the invasiveness of SW1990 cells through interaction with GAL-3. CONCLUSION: GAL-3 and PSCs were involved in the proliferation and infiltration process of pancreatic cancer cells.

The three-dimensional packing problem is generally on how to pack a set of models into a given bounding box using the smallest packaging volume. It is known as an NP-hard problem. When discussing the packing problem in mechanical field, the space utilization of a mechanism is low due to the constraint of mechanical joints between different mechanical parts. Although such a situation can be improved by breaking the mechanism into components at every joint, it burdens the user when reassembling the mechanism and may also reduce the service life of mechanical parts. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism packing algorithm that deliberately considers the DOFs （degrees of freedom） of mechanical joints. With this algorithm, we construct the solution space according to each joint. While building the search tree of the splitting scheme, we do not break the joint, but move the joint. Therefore, the algorithm proposed in this paper just requires the minimal number of splits to meet the goal of space utilization. Numerical examples show that the proposed method is convenient and efficient to pack three-dimensional models into a given bounding box with high space utilization.

Many studies involving lexical access in picture-naming tasks have been undertaken at a point in time,mainly focusing on age of acquisition(AoA).To identify the real determinates of lexical access in recovery and their traces in the brain,we carried out a longitudinal study on a Chinese pure anomic patient using multiple logistic regression *** found that AoA played an important role in early recovery but not in total recovery,whereas familiarity was significant in the whole *** a new dynamic point of view,our results indicate that AoA and familiarity are the main determinants of lexical access in anomia *** suggest that the changing effects of AoA during recovery may be related to the pathologic process;AoA and familiarity should be taken into account in constructing materials to assess and treat anomic patients.

The viscous dissipation limit of weak solutions is considered for the Navier-Stokes equations of compressible isentropic flows confined in a bounded *** establish a Kato-type criterion for the validity of the inviscid limit for the weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in a function space with the regularity index close to Onsager’s critical *** particular,we prove that under such a regularity assumption,if the viscous energy dissipation rate vanishes in a boundary layer of thickness in the order of the viscosity,then the weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations converge to a weak admissible solution of the Euler *** approach is based on the commutator estimates and a subtle foliation technique near the boundary of the domain.

BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common liver disease worldwide,affecting about 1/4th of the global population and causing a huge global economic *** date,no drugs have been approved for the treatment of NAFLD,making the correction of unhealthy lifestyles the principle method of *** patients with poor adherence to lifestyle correction and attempting to improve their adherence are therefore very *** To develop and validate a scale that can rapidly assess the adherence of patients with NAFLD to lifestyle *** The Exercise and Diet Adherence Scale(EDAS)was designed based on com-pilation using the Delphi method,and its reliability was subsequently *** and laboratory indicators were measured,and patients completed the EDAS questionnaire at baseline and after 6 *** efficacy of the EDAS was evaluated in the initial ***,the efficacy of the EDAS was internally verified in a validation *** The EDAS consisted of 33 items in six dimensions,with a total of 165 *** EDAS score correlated significantly with daily number of exercise and daily reduction in calorie intake(P500 kacl/d),(sensitivity/specificity was 100.0%/75.8%),while patients score below 97 could nearly rule out the possibility of daily exercise(sensitivity/specificity was 89.5%/44.4%).Total EDAS scores≥116,97-115,and<97 points were indicative of good,average,and poor adherence,respectively,to diet and exercise *** The EDAS can reliably assess the adherence of patients with NAFLD to lifestyle interventions and have clinical application in this population.

Geotechnical centrifuge tests were conducted to examine the influence of invert voids and surface traffic loads on 1400 mm diameter reinforced concrete pipes buried with a shallow soil cover depth of 700 *** formation beneath the pipe was simulated during centrifuge *** test results revealed that before void formation,the surface load directly above the middle of the pipe caused a significant increase in not only the circumferential bending moments but also the longitudinal bending moments,the latter of which was considerable and could not be *** formation beneath the middle of the pipe led to a reduction in both the circumferential bending moments and longitudinal bending moments at all measuring positions,i.e.,crown,springline,and *** most significant reduction occurred at the invert,and there was even a reversal in the sign of the invert longitudinal bending moment.A comparison was made between centrifuge tests with erosion voids and surface loads at different horizontal positions,which had a marked influence even when the positions differed by half a pipe *** rotation played an important role in relieving large bending moments of pipe barrels in a jointed pipeline when the void and surface load were located at the joint.

Channel pruning can reduce memory consumption and running time with least performance damage,and is one of the most important techniques in network ***,existing channel pruning methods mainly focus on the pruning of standard convolutional networks,and they rely intensively on time-consuming fine-tuning to achieve the performance *** this end,we present a novel efficient probability-based channel pruning method for depthwise separable convolutional *** method leverages a new simple yet effective probability-based channel pruning criterion by taking the scaling and shifting factors of batch normalization layers into consideration.A novel shifting factor fusion technique is further developed to improve the performance of the pruned networks without requiring extra time-consuming *** apply the proposed method to five representative deep learning networks,namely MobileNetV1,MobileNetV2,ShuffleNetV1,ShuffleNetV2,and GhostNet,to demonstrate the efficiency of our pruning *** experimental results and comparisons on publicly available CIFAR10,CIFAR100,and ImageNet datasets validate the feasibility of the proposed method.
