BACKGROUND Infarction of the conus medullaris is a rare form of spinal cord infarction.The first symptom is usually acute non-characteristic lumbar pain,followed by lower limb pain,saddle numbness,fecal incontinence,and sexual dysfunction.Spontaneous conus infarction with"snake-eye appearance"on magnetic resonance imaging has rarely been reported.CASE SUMMARY We report a 79-year-old male patient with spontaneous conus infarction who had acute lower extremity pain and dysuria as the first symptoms.He did not have any recent history of aortic surgery and trauma.Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a rare"snake-eye appearance."In addition,we reviewed the literature on 23 similar cases and summarized the clinical features and magnetic resonance manifestations of common diseases related to the"snake-eye sign"to explore the etiology,imaging findings,and prognosis of spontaneous conus infarction.CONCLUSION We conclude that acute onset of conus medullaris syndrome combined with"snake-eye appearance"should be strongly suspected as conus medullaris infarction caused by anterior spinal artery ischemia.This special imaging manifestation is helpful in the early diagnosis and treatment of conus infarction.

Cowpea(Vigna imguicuiata) is an important legume crop with diverse uses. The species is presently a minor crop, and evaluation of its genetic diversity has been very limited. In this study, a total of 200 genic and 100 genomic simple sequence repeat(SSR) markers were developed from cowpea unigene and genome sequences, respectively. Among them, 27 genic and 27 genomic SSR markers were polymorphic and were used for assessment of genetic diversity and population structure in 105 selected cowpea accessions. A total of 155 alleles and 2.9 alleles per marker were identified, and the average polymorphic information content(PIC) value was 0.3615. The average PIC of genomic SSRs(0.3996) was higher than that of genic SSRs(0.3235), and most of the polymorphic genomic SSRs were composed of di-and trinucleotide repeats(51.9% and 37.0% of all loci, respectively). The low level of detected genetic diversity may be attributed to a severe genetic bottleneck that occurred during the cowpea domestication process. The accessions were classified by structure and cluster analysis into four subgroups that correlated well with their geographic origins or collection sites. The classification results were also consistent with the results from principal coordinate analysis and can be used as a guide during future germplasm collection and selection of accessions as breeding materials for cultivar improvement. The newly developed genic and genomic SSR markers described in this study will be valuable genomic resources for the assessment of genetic diversity, population structure, evaluation of germplasm accessions, construction of genetic maps, identification of genes of interest,and application of marker-assisted selection in cowpea breeding programs.

Objective: To determine whether Interferon-alpha-2b(IFN-α2b) can modulate the autophagic response in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.Methods: Hepatocellular carcinoma cells were treated with IFN-α2b. Autophagy was assessed by acridine orange staining, GFP-LC3 dotted assay, transmission electron microscopy and immunoblotting.Results: Acridine orange staining showed that IFN-α2b triggered the accumulation of acidic vesicular and autolysosomes in HepG2 cells. The acridine orange HepG2 cell ratios were(4.3±1.0)%,(6.9±1.4)%, and(13.1±2.3)%, respectively, after treatment with 100, 1,000, and 10,000 IU/mL IFN-α2b for 48 h. A markedly punctate pattern was observed in HepG2 cells treated with 10,000 IU/mL IFN-α2b for 48 h, but only diffuse and weakly fluorescent GFP-LC3 puncta was observed in control cells. HepG2 cells treated with 10,000 IU/mL IFN-α2b for 48 h developed autophagosome-like characteristics, including single- or double-membrane vacuoles containing intact and degraded cellular debris. The Beclin1 and LC3-II protein expression was up-regulated by IFN-α2b treatment.Conclusion: Autophagy can be induced in a dose-dependent manner by treatment with IFN-α2b in HepG2 cells, and the Beclin1 signaling pathway was stimulated by IFN-α2b.

Population structure and association mapping to detect QTL controlling tomato spotted wilt virus resistance in cultivated peanuts

Tomato spotted wilt(TSW)is a serious virus disease of peanut in the United States.Breeding for TSWV resistance would be facilitated by the implementation of marker-assisted selection in breeding programs;however,genes associated with resistance have not been identified.Association mapping is a type of genetic mapping that can exploit relationships between markers and traits in many lineages.The objectives of this study were to examine genetic diversity and population structure in the U.S.peanut mini-core collection using simple sequence repeat(SSR)markers,and to conduct association mapping between SSR markers and TSWV resistance in cultivated peanuts.One hundred and thirty-three SSR markers were used for genotyping 104 accessions.Four subpopulations,generally corresponding to botanical varieties,were classified by population structure analysis.Association mapping analysis indicated that five markers:pP GPseq5D5,GM1135,GM1991,TC23C08,and TC24C06,were consistently associated with TSW resistance by the Q,PCA,Q+K,and PCA+K models.These markers together explained 36.4%of the phenotypic variance.Moreover,pP GPseq5D5 and GM1991 were associated with both visual symptoms of TSWV and EliSA values with a high R^2.The potential of these markers for use in a marker-assisted selection program to breed peanut for resistance to TSWV is discussed.

Objective: To highlight the relationship between miR-503 and wound healing of diabetic foot ulcer(DFU). Methods: Microarray analysis was used to detect the dysregulated miRNAs between the DFU tissues and normal tissues. The expression of miR-503 in tissues and serum of patients with DFU was detected by qRT-PCR technique. Then, CCK-8 assay was applied to determine the cell proliferation. TUNEL assay was used for assessing the apoptosis of cells after treatment with miR-503. Possible correlation between miR-503 and fibillinl(FBN1)was predicted according to data accessed on RNA22 website online, and was detected for confirmation by luciferase reporter assay. Results: Microarray analysis showed that miR-503 was significantly decreased in the DFU tissues compared with normal tissues. While marked increase in the expression of miR-503 in tissues and scrum of patients with DFU was confirmed by qRT-PCR technique. Then, CCK-8 assay indicated that transfection of miR-503 mimic obviously accelerated the cell proliferation. However, TUNEL assays suggested that miR-503 mimic inhibited the apoptosis of cells to improve the survival of fibroblasts.Besides. miR-503 AMO played a role in fibroblasts of DFU tissues exactly countering to miR-503 mimic treatment. It was predicted that MiR-503 is a complementary to the FBN1 by RNA22. Besides, SiRNA-FBN1 promoted the proliferation, but brought down the apoptosis of fibroblasts. Conclusions: MiR-503 regulates the function of fibroblasts and wound healing of patients with DFU by targeting FBN I directly which provids a novel and critical target for diagnosis and treatment of DFU.

This paper considers setting different dips for different sub-faults to fit the actual rupture situation based on the fault rupture of the 2013 Lushan M_(S)7.0 earthquake.Meanwhile,combined with the coseismic GNSS data of the Lushan earthquake,the source parameters and sliding distribution of the Lushan earthquake fault are inversed.Firstly,we use the gradient based optimizer(GBO)in nonlinear inversion to obtain the source parameters of this seismic fault.The inversion results indicate that the strike of the fault is 206.52°,the dip is 44.10°,the length is 21.92 km,and the depth is 12.79 km.To refine the sliding distribution of the seismic fault,the seismic fault is divided into 3×3 sub-faults.Then,we fix the central sub-fault dip of 44.10°;the dip of other sub-faults is obtained by iteration.After that,the model is further divided into a fault layer model composed of 23×19 sub fault slices,and using the Matlab fitting function is used to fit the dip of the 23×19 sub faults.Finally,the Lushan seismic fault plane is established as a shovel structure with steep upper and gentle lower,steep south and gentle north.The slip distribution inversion results indicate that the depth of the slip peak is 13 km,the corresponding maximum slip momentum is 0.67 m,the seismic moment is 1.10×10^(19)N·m and the corresponding moment magnitude is MW6.66.The results above are consistent with the research results of seismology.

At the end of 2022,the adjustment of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic control policy in China resulted in alarge-scale increase in public infection.To compare the fertility parameters of male patients before and after the adjustments ofthe COVID-19 pandemic control policy in China,we collected data on patients’medical histories and laboratory examinations ontheir first visits between June 2022 and March 2023 in five different hospitals.Data were divided into five groups according tothe timeline of the policy adjustment.The data we collected from male patients included semen quality and serum reproductivehormone levels,and intergroup comparisons were made using the Mann–Whitney U and Chi-square tests.In total,16784 casesunderwent regular semen analysis,11180 had sperm morphology assessments,and 7200 had reproductive hormone analyses.Thedata showed declining trends in semen volume,sperm motility,and the progressive sperm motility rate after the policy adjustment.Subgroup comparison revealed an initial decrease and gradual recovery in progressive motility rate.Sperm morphology analysisshowed increased neck and tail abnormalities after the policy adjustment.No significant change in hormone levels was observed.Following the adjustment of the COVID-19 prevention policy in China,a decline in sperm motility and morphology was observed.This trend may gradually recover over 2 months.After the policy adjustment,reproductive hormone levels were relatively stablethroughout,except for an increase in luteinizing hormone(LH).These changes in semen parameters suggest that the policyadjustment had a short-to medium-term impact on male reproductive function.

Over last decades,the development of new organic materials has contributed to the rapid increase of high-power conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells.At this stage,to understand the structure and the dynamic of materials is of significant importance for designing novel low-cost photovoltaic cells with superior performance.Neutron scattering is a powerful tool to provide unique and non-destructive information for the organic photovoltaic materials with particular advantages of addressing different parts of organic system by deuterium or tritium substitution.In addition,by employing several neutron scattering methods together,it is possible to further access the static structure and dynamic relaxation of the materials.With this perspective review,we introduce three neutron scattering techniques,including neutron reflectivity,small angle neutron scattering,grazing incidence small angle neutron scattering and quasi-elastic neutron scattering,and their applications on the organic photovoltaic materials.

In this article,an adaptive security control scheme is presented for cyber-physical systems(CPSs)suffering from false data injection(FDI)attacks and time-varying state constraints.Firstly,an adaptive bound estimation mechanism is introduced in the backstepping control design to mitigate the effect of FDI attacks.Secondly,to solve the unknown sign time-varying statefeedback gains aroused by the FDI attacks,a type of Nussbaum function is employed in the adaptive security control.Then,by constructing a barrier Lyapunov function,it can be ensured that all signals of controlled system are bounded and the time-varying state constraints are not transgressed.Finally,the provided simulation examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
