A series of 2-alkylbenzimidazole derivatives 9a-n have been designed and synthesized as a novel class of non-peptide angiotensin H AT1 receptor antagonists. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antagonism of angiotensin H, induced contraction in the rabbit thoracic aortic ring and the results showed that compounds 9a, 9g and 9j exhibited potent antagonistic activity of AT1 receptor.

An inter-phasing pulse tube cooler (IPPTC) consists of two pulse tube units, which are connected to each other at hot ends of the pulse tubes through a needle valve. This paper presents the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) results of an IPPTC using a 2D axis-symmetrical model. General results such as the phase difference between pressure and velocity at cold end and hot end, the temperature profiles along the wall, the available lowest temperature as well as its oscillations and the coefficient of performance (COP) for IPPTC are presented. The formation of DC flow and its effects on the performance of the cooler are investigated and analyzed in detail. Turbulence, which is partially responsible for the poor overall performance of a single orifice pulse tube cooler (OPTC), is found to be much reduced in IPPTC and its performance is improved significantly compared with the single OPTC.

Classical swine fever （CSF） and porcine reproduction and respiratory syndrome （PRRS） are both economically important, highly contagious diseases of swine worldwide. To develop an effective vaccine to control these two diseases, we constructed a recombinant adenovirus rAdV-GP52AE2, using a replication-defective human adenovirus serotype 5 as a delivery vector, to co-express the GP5 protein of highly pathogenic porcine reproduction and respiratory syndrome virus （PRRSV） and the E2 protein of classical swine fever virus （CSFV）. Foot-and-mouth disease virus （FMDV） 2A peptide was used as a linker between the GP5 and E2 proteins to allow automatic self-cleavage of the polyprotein. The GP5 and E2 genes were expressed as demonstrated by immunofluorescence assay and Western blotting. Immunization of mice resulted in a CSFV-neutralizing antibody titer of 1：128 and a PRRSV-neutralizing antibody titer of 1：16. The lymphoproliferative responses were detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and the stimulation index of CFSV-specific and PRRSV-specific lymphocytes in the rAdV-GP52AE2 group was significantly higher than that in the negative control group. The results show that rAdV-GP52AE2 can induce both effective humoral and cell-mediated immune responses in mice. The protective efficacy of the recombinant virus against CSF was evaluated in immunized rabbits, which were protected from fever induced by challenge with C-strain. Our study provides supporting evidence for the use of FMDV 2A to develop a bivalent genetically-engineered vaccine.

Heterosis is an important biological phenomenon, and it has been used to increase grain yield, quality and resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses in many crops. However, the genetic mechanism of heterosis remains unclear up to now. In this study, a set of 184 chromosome segment substitution lines （CSSLs） population, which derived from two inbred lines Ix9801 （the recurrent parent） and Chang 72 （the donor parent）, were used as basal material to construct two test populations with the inbred lines Zheng 58 and Xun 9058. The two test populations were evaluated in two locations over two years, and the heterotic loci for plant height and ear height were identified by comparing the performance of each test hybrid with the corresponding CK at P〈0.05 significant level using one-way ANOVA analysis and Duncan＇s multiple comparisons. There were 24 and 29 different heterotic loci （HL） identified for plant height and ear height in the two populations at two locations over two years. Three HL （hlPH4a, hlPH7c, hlPHlb） for plant height and three （hlEHld, hlEH6b, hlEHlb） for ear height were identified in the CSSLs×Zheng 58 and CSSLs×Xun 9058 populations as contributing highly to heterosis performance of plant height and ear height across four environments. Among the 29 HL identified for ear height, 12 HL （41.4%） shared the same chromosomal region associated with the HL （50.0%） identified for plant height in the same test population and environment.

Heterogenous photocatalyzed reduction of aqueous Na2CO3 has been carried out by using nano SrFeO3 semiconductor powders. Formic acid, formaldehyde and methyl alcohol were identified as photoproducts, and were measured spectrophotometrically. The effect of the variation of different parameters such as sodium carbonate concentration, amount of photocatalyst and different light sources on the yield of photoproducts was also investigated. It shows that nano SrFeO3 has photocatalytic activity. Irradiation leads to the production of electrons in the conduction band of the SrFeO3 semiconductor. It is likely that the photoproduced electrons reduce CO32- initially to HCOO-, and then to HCHO and CH3OH.

Objective To review the biological behaviour of endothelial progenitor cells and their role in vascular diseases. Data sources The data used in this review were mainly from Medline and PubMed for relevant English language articles published from 1985 to March 2007. The search term was ＂endothelial progenitor cells＂. Study selection Articles about the biological behaviour of endothelial progenitor cells and their roles in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases such as atherogenesis were used. Results Progenitor cells in bone marrow, peripheral blood and adventitia can differentiate into mature endothelial cells （ECs）. The progenitor cells, which express certain surface markers including AC133, CD34 and KDR, enable restoration of the microcirculation and ECs when injury or ischaemia occurs. Endothelial progenitor cells used in experimental models and clinical trials for ischaemic syndromes could restore endothelial integrity and inhibit neointima development. Moreover, their number and functional properties are influenced by certain cytokines and atherosclerotic risk factors. Impairment of the progenitor cells might limit the regenerative capacity, even lead to the development of atherosclerosis or other vascular diseases. Conclusions Endothelial progenitor cells have a particular role in prevention and treatment of certain cardiovascular diseases. However, many challenges remain in understanding differentiation of endothelial progenitor cells, their mobilization and revascularization.

The development of high-entropy alloys(HEAs)has stimulated an ever-increasing interest from both academia and *** this work,three novel MoNbFeCrV,MoNbFeCrTi,and MoNbFeVTi HEAs containing low thermal neutron absorption cross section elements were prepared by vacuum arc *** microstructure,mechanical properties,and corrosion behaviors were investigated.A dominant body-centered cubic(BCC)phase was present in all these three *** addition,an ordered Laves phase was found to be another major phase in both MoNbFeCrV and MoNbFeCrTi alloys,whereas an ordered BCC(B2)phase was observed in the MoNbFeVTi *** phase formation in these three alloys was *** is found that the formation of the secondary phase in these alloys is mainly ascribed to the large atomic size difference and electronegativity *** the three HEAs show high hardness,high yield strength but limited ***,the MoNbFeCrV,MoNbFeCrTi and MoNbFeVTi alloys exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in both deaerated 1mol/L NaCl and 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solutions at room ***,further composition adjustment and/or thermomechanical processing is required to enhance the mechanical properties of the three alloys.

We report the ab initio calculations of transport behaviors of an azobenzene molecular device which is similar to the experimental *** calculated results show that the transport behaviors of the device are sensitive to the molecule-electrode distance and the currents will drop rapidly when the molecule-electrode distance changes from 1.7(A) to 2.0(A).More interestingly,the negative differential resistance behavior can be found in our ***,it is not the inherent property of an azobenzene molecular device but an effect of the molecule-electrode *** analyses of the molecular projected self-consistent Hamiltonian states and the transmission spectra of the system reveal the physical mechanism of these behaviors.

Deepwater oil and gas projects embody high risks from geology and engineering aspects, which exert substantial influence on project valuation. But the uncer- tainties may be converted to additional value to the projects in the case of flexible management. Given the flexibility of project management, this paper extends the classical real options model to a multi-factor model which contains oil price, geology, and engineering uncertainties. It then gives an application example of the new model to evaluate deepwater oil and gas projects with a numerical analytical method. Compared with other methods and models, this multi-factor real options model contains more project information. It reflects the potential value deriving not only from oil price variation but also from geology and engi- neering uncertainties, which provides more accurate and reliable valuation information for decision makers.
