Quantification of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of an underutilized Indian fruit:Rayan[Manilkara hexandra(Roxb.)Dubard]

The fruit of Manilkara hexandra(Roxb.)Dubard is one of the most underutilized fruits of India and in Gujarat *** is popularly known as‘Rayan’.The fruit and seed of Rayan were analysed for their total phenolic and flavonoid content,phenolic compounds and total antioxidant capacity with six different assay *** results indicated that the methanolic extract of Rayan fruit being a good source of phenolic(811.3 mg GAE/100 g fw)and flavonoid(485.56 mg RE/100 g fw)***,eleven known phenolic compounds were tentatively identified for the first time from the fruit and seed of *** LC–MS/MS analysis of fruit revealed the presence of major phenolic compounds such as gallic acid,quercetin and kaempferol,while quercetin,gallic acid and vanillic acid in *** presence of quercetin suggests health *** fruit of Rayan was also proved to be a better source of antioxidants as measured by FRAP,RPA,DPPhRSA,AbTSRSA and hRSA except NORSA in comparison with that of *** current study explains that *** is a relatively good source of antioxidants such as phenols and flavonoids for diet.

brominated-chlorinated paraffins(br-CPs)are a comparably new compound class that features both Cl and br atoms on one or several alkane *** to legal restrictions in the use of conventional chlorinated paraffins(CPs),br-CPs have the potential to become emerging ***,their determination is hampered by the lack of suitable reference ***,we present a simple synthesis procedure with single chain alkanes that leads to br-CPs with∼4–8 chlorine and 1 to 4 bromine substituents according to gas chromatography with electron capture negative ion mass spectrometry(GC/ECNI-MS).The single-chain br-CP mixtures were obtained by the shared chlorination and bromination of eight single-chain alkanes(C10 to C17)at two reaction times,*** carbon content of the 16 single-chain br-CP products,determined by elemental analysis(EA),ranged from 30.8 to 43.8%.The typical hump peak known from CPs was detected with GC with flame ionization detection(GC/FID),electron capture detection(GC/ECD)and GC/*** complexity indicated that low-resolution mass spectrometry is not sufficient for an adequate analysis of br-CPs.A mathematical formula was developed which allows to calculate all possible combinations of br and Cl that are in line with the carbon *** proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1h NMR)spectra showed similarities to the ones of CPs with one chemical shift range for protons on nonhalogenated carbons and one for protons with one halogen on the same carbon.

It is estimated that the elderly (> 65 years of age) will increase from 13%��14% to 25% by 2035. If this trend continues, > 50% of the United States population and more than two billion people worldwide will be “aged”in the next 50 years. Aged individuals face formidable challenges to their health, as aging is associated with a myriad of diseases. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity andmortality in the United States with > 50% of mortality attributed to coronary artery disease and > 80%of these deaths occurring in those age 65 and older. Therefore, age is an important predictor of cardiovascular disease. The efficiency of youth is built upon cellular signaling scaffolds that provide tight and coordinated signaling. Lipid rafts are one such scaffold of which caveolae are a subset. In this review, we consider the importance of caveolae in common cardiovascular diseases of the aged and as potential therapeutic targets. We specifically address the role of caveolin in heart failure,myocardial ischemia, and pulmonary hypertension.

Parkinson＇s disease （PD） is disorder affecting more than a common neurodegenerative 1% people above 60 years of age worldwide, manifesting as the impaired motor function such as tremors, rigidity, akinesia/bradykinesia and postural inefficiency with a reduced life expectancy （Dorsey et al., 2007）. PD is believed to be the end result of the progressive death of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta （SNc）.

The combination of hydrogen/deuterium(h/D)formaldehyde-based isotopic methyl labeling with solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography–high resolution mass spectrometry(hPLC-hRMS)is a powerful analytical solution for nontargeted analysis of trace-level amino-containing chemicals in water *** the huge amount of chemical information generated in hPLC-hRMS analysis,identifying all possible h/Dlabeled amino chemicals presents a significant challenge in data *** address this,we designed a streamlined data processing pipeline that can automatically extract h/D-labeled amino chemicals from the raw hPLC-hRMS data with high accuracy and ***,we developed a cross-correlation algorithm to correct the retention time shift resulting from deuterium isotopic effects,which enables reliable pairing of h-and D-labeled ***,we implemented several bioinformatic solutions to remove false chemical features generated by in-source fragmentation,salt adduction,and natural13C ***,we used a data mining strategy to construct the AMINES library that consists of over 38,000 structure-disjointed primary and secondary amines to facilitate putative compound ***,we integrated these modules into a freely available R program,*** rationale of each module was justified and its performance tested using experimental h/D-labeled chemical standards and authentic water *** further demonstrated the application of hDPairFinder to effectively extract N-containing contaminants,thus enabling the monitoring of changes of primary and secondary N-compounds in authentic water *** is a reliable bioinformatic tool for rapid processing of h/D isotopic methyl labeling-based nontargeted analysis of water samples,and will facilitate a better understanding of N-containing chemical compounds in water.

The gastrointestinal tract represents the largest mucosal membrane surface in the human body. The immune system in the gut is the first line of host defense against mucosal microbial pathogens and it plays a crucial role in maintaining mucosal homeostasis. Membranous or microfold cells, commonly referred to as microfold cells, are specialized epithelial cells of the gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) and they play a sentinel role for the intestinal immune system by delivering luminal antigens through the follicle-associated epithelium to the underlying immune cells. M cells sample and uptake antigens at their apical membrane, encase them in vesicles to transport them to the basolateral membrane of M cells, and from there deliver antigens to the nearby lymphocytes. On the flip side, some intestinal pathogens exploit M cells as their portal of entry to invade the host and cause infections. In this article, we briefly review our current knowledge on the morphology, development, and function of M cells, with an emphasis on their dual role in the pathogenesis of gut infection and in the development of host mucosal immunity.

background Cerebral cavernous malformations(CCMs)frequently manifest with *** radiosurgery(SRS)has been employed for CCM not suitable for *** effect on reducing haemorrhage risk is still *** aim of this study was to expand on the safety and efficacy of SRS for haemorrhagic *** This retrospective multicentric study included CCM with at least one haemorrhage treated with single-session *** annual haemorrhagic rate(AhR)was calculated before and after *** event analysis and Cox regression were used to evaluate factors associated with *** radiation effects(AREs)and occurrence of new neurological deficits were *** The study included 381 patients (median age:37.5 years(Q1–Q3:25.8–51.9))with 414 *** AhR from diagnosis to SRS excluding the first haemorrhage was 11.08 per 100 CCM-years and was reduced to 2.7 per 100 CCM-years after *** recurrent event analysis,SRS,hR 0.27(95%CI 0.17 to 0.44),ph a decreased risk of haemorrhage,and the presence of developmental venous anomaly(DVA)with an increased risk,hR 1.60(95%CI 1.07 to 2.40),p=*** cumulative risk of first haemorrhage after SRS was 9.4%(95%CI 6%to 12.6%)at 5 years and 15.6%(95%CI%9 to 21.8%)at 10 *** doses>13 Gy,hR 2.27(95%CI 1.20 to 4.32),p=0.012 and the presence of DVA,hR 2.08(95%CI 1.00 to 4.31),p=0.049 were factors associated with higher probability of post-SRS ***-SRS haemorrhage was symptomatic in 22 out of 381(5.8%)patients,presenting with transient(15/381)or permanent(7/381)neurological *** occurred in 11.1%(46/414)CCM and was responsible for transient neurological deficit in 3.9%(15/381)of the patients and permanent deficit in 1.1%(4/381)of the *** doses>13 Gy and CCM volume>0.7 cc were associated with increased risk of ARE.
