A simple,sensitive and non-destructive technique for characterizing bovine dental enamel erosion:attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Although many techniques are available to assess enamel erosion in vitro, a simple, non-destructive method with sufficient sensitivity for quantifying dental erosion is required. This study characterized the bovine dental enamel erosion induced by various acidic beverages in vitro using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared （ATR-FTIR） spectroscopy. Deionized water （control） and 10 acidic beverages were selected to study erosion, and the pH and neutralizable acidity were measured. Bovine anterior teeth （110） were polished with up to 1 200-grit silicon carbide paper to produce flat enamel surfaces, which were then immersed in 20 mL of the beverages for 30 min.at 37 ℃. The degree of erosion was evaluated using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and Vickers＇ microhardness measurements. The spectra obtained were interpreted in two ways that focused on the ~1, ~3 phosphate contour： the ratio of the height amplitude of ~3 P04 to that of/11 P04 （Method 1） and the shift of the v3 P04 peak to a higher wavenumber （Method 2）. The percentage changes in microhardness after the erosion treatments were primarily affected by the pH of the immersion media. Regression analyses revealed highly significant correlations between the surface hardness change and the degree of erosion, as detected by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy （P〈0.001）. Method 1 was the most sensitive to these changes, followed by surface hardness change measurements and Method 2. This study suggests that ATR- FTIR spectroscopy is potentially advantageous over the microhardness test as a simple, non-destructive, sensitive technique for the quantification of enamel erosion.

A Case of Ankle Osteomyelitis Caused by <i>Mycobacterium abscessus</i>

The proportion of non-tuberculous mycobacteria to Mycobacterium tuberculosis cultivated in the laboratory has been recently increasing. Numerous skin and soft tissue infections have been reported, while osteomyelitis is reported very rarely. A delayed diagnosis can cause a wide range of bone destruction and joint contracture, which highlights the importance of early recognition of osteomyelitis. Here we report a case of ankle osteomyelitis caused by Mycobacterium abscessus and treatment failure due to delayed diagnosis.

Dynamic changes of protein corona compositions on the surface of zinc oxide nanoparticle in cell culture media

The potential applications of nanomaterials used in nanomedicine as ingredients in drug delivery systems and in other products continue to expand. When nanomaterials are introduced into physiological environments and driven by energetics, they readily associate proteins formin. a protein corona (PC) on their surface. This PC could result in an alteration of the nanomatcrial's surface characteristics, affecting their interaction with cells due to conformational changes in adsorbed protein molecules. However, our current understanding of nanobiological interactions is still very limited. Utilizing a liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy/mass spectroscopy technology and a Cytoscape plugin (ClueGO) approach, we examin.d the composition of the PC for a set of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONP) from cell culture media typically and further analyzed the biological interaction of identified proteins, respectively. In total, 36 and 33 common proteins were investigated as being bound to ZnONP at 5 min.and 60 min. respectively. These proteins were further analyzed with ClueGO, a Cytoscape plugin, which provided gene ontology and the biological interaction processes of identified proteins. Proteins bound to the surface of nanoparticles that may modify the structure, therefore the function of the adsorbed protein could be consequently affect the complicated biological processes.

Enhanced light emission from AlGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells using the localized surface plasmon effect by alumin.m nanoring patterns

We investigate the localized surface plasmon(LSP) effect by Al nanorings on the AlGaN/GaN multiple quantum well(MQW) structure emitting at 365 nm. For this experiment, first, the size of Al nanorings is optimized to maximize the energy transfer(or coupling) between the LSP and MQW using the silica nanospheres. Then, the Al nanorings with an outer diameter of 385 nm, which exhibit a strong absorption peak in the near-ultraviolet region, are applied to the top surface of the AlGaN/GaN MQW. The photolumin.scence(PL) intensity of the MQW structure with Al nanorings increased by 227% at 365 nm compared to that without Al *** improvement is mainly attributed to an enhanced radiative recombination rate in the MQWs through the energy-matched LSPs by the temperature-dependent PL and time-resolved PL analyses. The radiative lifetime was about two times shorter than that of the structure without Al nanorings at room temperature. In addition, the measured PL efficiency at room temperature of the structure with Al nanorings was 33%, while that of the structure without Al nanorings was 19%, implying that LSP-QW coupling together with the nanoring array pattern itself played important roles in the enhancement.

Changes in a cerebellar peduncle lesion in a patient with Dandy-Walker malformation A diffusion tensor imaging study

We report a patient with severe ataxia due to Dandy-Walker malformation, who showed functional recovery over 10 months corresponding to a change in a cerebellar peduncle lesion. A 20-month-old female patient who was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker syndrome and six age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects were enrolled. The superior cerebellar peduncle, the middle cerebellar peduncle, and the inferior cerebellar peduncle were evaluated using fractional anisotropy and the apparent diffusion coefficient. The patients＇ functional ambulation category was 0 at the initial visit, but improved to 2 at the follow-up evaluation, and Berg＇s balance scale score also improved from 0 to 7. Initial diffusion tensor tractography revealed that the inferior cerebellar peduncle was not detected, that the fractional anisotropy of the superior cerebellar peduncle and middle cerebellar peduncle decreased by two standard deviations below, and that the apparent diffusion coefficient increased by two standard deviations over normal control values. However, on follow-up diffusion tensor tractography, both inferior cerebellar peduncles could be detected, and the fractional anisotropy of superior cerebellar peduncle increased to within two standard deviations of normal controls. The functional improvement in this patient appeared to correspond to changes in these cerebellar peduncles. We believe that evaluating cerebellar peduncles using diffusion tensor imaging is useful in cases when a cerebellar peduncle lesion is suspected.

中韩两国的语言中都存在大量的谚语,谚语是在语言习惯中最具代表性的语言表现形式之一,而在这众多谚语中又有许多涉及女性形象的内容。本文从语言与文化相结合的角度,通过对有关反映女性问题谚语的定量分析描写,揭示关于女性的两国谚语的共同点及不同点,并进一步考察中韩两个民族文化之间的关系。本文共分五部分。第一章,介绍了中韩谚语的界定及语言特点。论述谚语的界定、谚语的来源和中韩谚语的关系及研究目的、研究现状和本文的研究方法。第二章,关于“女性美”的中韩谚语比较。把相关谚语分为“外在美”、“内在美”两类,再进行综合比较,分为赞美女性美与抨击女性美,并描写两国女性美文化的特点。第三章,关于“女性言行禁忌”的中韩谚语比较。按照谚语内容的不同主要分为四大类:多言、嫉妒、善交、懒惰,分别举例并归纳特点。第四章,关于“女性地位”的中韩谚语比较,女儿、婆婆、媳妇、妻子、寡妇、妾等在家庭及社会里的不同角色特点与地位。第五章,中韩女性文化背景讨论,探讨形成两国古代女性文化特点的原因。通过对涉及女性形象的谚语的分析,考察谚语中蕴涵的中韩女性文化及关系,希望能为中韩两国的汉语和韩语教学提供一些有价值的参考与借鉴。

Therapeutic benefit of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for severe mirror movements A case report

Congenital mirror movements retard typical hand functions, but no definite therapeutic modality is available to treat such movements. We report an 8-year-old boy with severe mirror movements of both hands. His mirror movements were assessed using the Woods and Teuber grading scale and his fine motor skills were also evaluated by the Purdue Pegboard Test. A 2-week regimen of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation produced markedly dimin.shed mirror movement symptoms and increased the fine motor skills of both hands. Two weeks after the completion of the regimen, mirror movement grades had improved from grade 4 to 1 in both hands and the Purdue Pegboard Test results of the right and left hands also improved from 12 to 14 or 13. These improvements were maintained for 1 month after the 2-week repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation regimen. After 18 months, the mirror movement grade was maintained and the Purdue Pegboard test score had improved to 15 for the right hand while the left hand score was maintained at 13. This occurred without any additional repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation or other treatment. These findings suggest that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for this patient had a therapeutic and long-term effect on mirror movements.

Synthesis of TiO_2 visible light catalysts with controllable crystalline phase and morphology from Ti-bearing electric arc furnace molten slag

TiO_2 visible light catalysts with different crystalline phases and morphologies were synthesized from titanium-bearing electric arc furnace molten slag（Ti-bearing EAF slag）by using a simple acidolysis *** effects of the p H of the HCl solution,liquid to solid ratio（RL/S,HCl solution to the residue ratio,m L/g） and acidolysis time on the micro-morphology and crystalline phase of as-prepared TiO_2 photocatalysts were systematically *** results indicated that with decreasing p H in the HCl solution and increasing RL/S,the crystalline phase and micro-morphology of the obtained TiO_2 nanostructures tended to transform from anatase type TiO_2 with spherical nanoparticle structures to rutile type TiO_2 with needle-like nanorod *** acidolysis time had little influence on the crystalline phase but great impact on the size of the obtained TiO_*** growth mechanism of TiO_2 from Ti-bearing EAF slag during the acidolysis process was also *** addition,the influence of RL/son.the photocatalytic properties of the synthesized nanostructured TiO_2 was *** results showed that the photodegradation efficiency for Rhodamin. B solution could reach 91.00% in 120 min.when the RL/Swas controlled at 50：1.
