Systemic air embolism through a bronchovenous fistu-la(BVF) has been described in patients undergoing positive-pressure ventilation. However, no report has mentioned the potential risks of systemic air embolism through a BVF in patients undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO). Positive-pressure ventilation and ECMO support in patients with lung injury can increase the risk of systemic air embolism through a BVF. Increased alveolar pressure, decreased pulmonary venous pressure, and anticoagulation are thought to be the factors that contribute to this complication. Here, we present a case of systemic air embolism in a patient with ECMO and mechanical ventilator support.

The acting force on the roll system of Sendzimir mill was analyzed using 3D *** roll gap pressure distribution and the acting force between rolls S and O,rolls O and I,rolls O and J,rolls I and A,rolls I and B,as well as rolls J and B were *** results showed that the roll gap pressure mainly affected the roll surface layer,50 mm for backup roll;the roll gap pressure distribution is of double peaks among the work roll,the 1st intermediate roll（IMR）,and the 2nd IMR;the maximum value of the roll gap pressure between the backup roll and the second IMR appears on the edge of the barrel of rolls;the component force presents the in-para-curve *** are important for reducing the wear of rolls and the break of the backup roll and guiding for production.

We report that the corrosion resistance of Mg is significantly improved by adding 0.05wt%*** rates evaluated from weight loss values after room-temperature immersion in 0.6 M NaCl solution for two weeks were 0.27 and 4.0 mm y^(-1)for the high-purity Mg samples with and without microalloyed 0.05wt%Sc,*** beneficial effect of Sc microalloying on the corrosion resistance of Mg is discussed in connection with Sc-induced microstructural modifications.

Micro-and nano-structuring have been highlighted over several decades in both science and engineering *** addition to continuous efforts in fabrication techniques,investigations in scalable nanomanufacturing have been pursued to achieve reduced feature size,fewer constraints in terms of materials and dimensional complexity,as well as improved process *** this study,based on recent micro-/nanoscale fabrication processes,characteristics and key requirements for computer-aided design and manufacturing(CAD/CAM)systems for scalable nanomanufacturing were *** include a process knowledge database,standardized processing,active communication,adaptive interpolation,a consistent coordinate system,and management of peripheral *** scalable nanomanufacturing,it is important to consider the flexibility and expandability of each process,because hybrid and bridging processes represent effective ways to expand process *** an example,we describe a novel CAD/CAM system for hybrid three-dimensional(3D)printing at the *** novel hybrid process was developed by bridging aerodynamically focused nanoparticle printing,focused ion beam milling,micromachining,and spincoating *** system developed can print a full 3D structure using various inorganic materials,with a minimum process scale of 50 *** most obvious difference versus CAD/CAM at‘conventional’scales is that our system was developed based on a network to promote communication between users and process *** the network-based system,it is also possible to narrow the gap among different processes/*** anticipate that this approach can contribute to the development of CAD/CAM for scalable nanomanufacturing and a wide range of hybrid processes.

AIM: To identify the factors associated with participation in gastric cancer screening programs. METHODS: Using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005 (KNHANES Ⅲ), a nationwide health-related surveyin Korea, a cross-sectional study was performed to investigate the multiple factors associated with gastric cancer screening attendance among persons aged at least 40 years. The study population included 4593 individuals who completed a gastric cancer screening questionnaire and had no previous cancer history. Four groups ofindividual-level or environmental level covariates were considered as potential associated ***: Using KNHANES Ⅲdata, an estimated31.71% of Korean individuals aged at least 40 years adhered to gastric cancer screening recommendations. Subjects who graduated from elementary school[adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 1.66; 95% CI: 1.21-2.26], middle/high school (aOR, 1.38; 95% CI: 1.01-1.89), and university or higher (aOR, 1.64; 95% CI: 1.13-2.37) were more likely to undergo gastric cancer screening than those who received no formal education at all. The population with the highest income tertile had more attendance at gastric screening compared to those with the lowest income tertile (aOR, 1.36; 95% CI: 1.06-1.73). Gastric screening was also negatively associated with excessive alcohol consumption (aOR, 0.71; 95% CI: 0.53-0.96). A positive attitude to preventive medical evaluation was significantly associated with better participation in gastric cancer screening programs (aOR, 5.26; 95% CI: 4.35-6.35). CONCLUSION: Targeted interventions for vulnerable populations and public campaigns about preventive medical evaluation are needed to increase gastric cancer screening participation and reduce gastric cancer mortality.

Air pollution containing particulate matter(PM)and volatile organic compounds has caused magnificent burdens on indi-vidual health and global *** advances in highly efficient or multifunctional nanofiber filters have been achieved,many existing filters can only deal with one type of air pollutant,such as capturing PM or absorbing and detecting toxic ***,highly efficient,dual-functional,self-assembled electrospun nanofiber(SAEN)filters were developed for simultaneous PM removal and onsite eye-readable formaldehyde sensing fabricated on a commercial fabric *** the use of an electrolyte solution containing a formaldehyde-sensitive colorimetric agent as a collector during electrospinning,the one-step fabrication of the dual-functional SAEN filter on commercial masks,such as a fabric mask and a daily dispos-able mask,was *** electrolyte solution also allowed the uniform deposition of electrospun nanofibers,thereby achieving the high efficiency of PM filtration with an increased quality factor up to twice that of commercial *** SAEN filter enabled onsite and eye-readable formaldehyde gas detection by changing its color from yellow to red under a 5 ppm concentrated formaldehyde gas *** repetitive fabrication and detachment of the SAEN filter on a fabric mask minimized the waste of the mask while maintaining high filtration efficiency by replenishing the SAEN filters and reusing the fabric *** the dual functionality of SAEN filters,this process could provide new insights into design-ing and developing high performance and dual-functional electrospun nanofiber filters for various applications,including individual protection and indoor purification applications.

AIM： To evaluate the clinical significance of preand intra-operative colonoscopy for the detection of synchronous lesions in colon cancer.METHODS： Two hundred and sixty-five pre-operative and 51 intra-operative colonoscopic evaluations were performed in 316 colorectal cancer patients who underwent curative resection from January 2001 to June 2006. The incidence and characteristics of synchronous lesions and their influence on surgery were evaluated.RESULTS： Two hundred and eighty-two synchronous lesions were detected in 124 （39.2%） of 316 patients including all lesions regardless of their histologic type. True adenomatous polyps were found in 91 （28.8%） of 326 patients, and 27 （5.4% of all patients） patients had synchronous colon cancers. The preoperative identification of synchronous lesions altered the planned surgery in 37 （14.0%） of 265 patients. In 18 patients among the surgically removed cases, the lesions were removed by extending the resection range. Further segmental resection or polypectomy through enterotomy was necessary in 29 patients. Nineteen （37.2%） of 52 intraoperative colonoscopy cases had synchronous lesions. Additional surgical procedures including segmental bowel resection and polypectomy with enterotomy were necessary in 7 （23.7%） of 52 intraoperative colonoscopy cases to remove the lesions.CONCLUSION： Synchronous colorectal polyps or cancer are frequent and their preoperative detection is important for optimal surgical planning and treatment. Intraoperative colonoscopy is a useful option in cases where a preoperative colonoscopy is not feasible.

Red ginseng is a well-known alternative medicine with anti-inflammatory *** exerts pharmacological effects through the transformation of saponin into metabolites by intestinal *** that intestinal microflora vary among individuals,the pharmacological effects of red ginseng likely vary among *** order to produce homogeneously effective red ginseng,we prepared probiotic-fermented red ginseng and evaluated its activity using a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis model in *** analysis of intestinal damage indicated that the administration of probiotic-fermented red ginseng significantly decreased the severity of colitis,compared with the control and the activity was higher than that induced by oral administration of ginseng powder or probiotics *** analysis of the levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α,inflammatory biomarkers that are increased at the initiation stage of colitis,were significantly decreased in probiotic-fermented red ginseng-treated groups in comparison to the control *** levels of inflammatory cytokines and mR NAs for inflammatory factors in colorectal tissues were also significantly decreased in probiotic-fermented red ginseng-treated ***,oral administration of probiotic-fermented red ginseng reduced the severity of colitis in a mouse model,suggesting that it can be used as a uniformly effective red ginseng product.
