BACKGROUND It is possible that this condition will lead to urosepsis and progressive deterioration of renal function in the absence of surgical intervention.Several recent clinical studies have shown that multi-tract percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL)has a similar stone free rate(SFR)as standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy(S-PCNL).As a result,M-PCNL was also recommended as a treatment option for staghorn calculi.AIM To examine the perioperative and long-term results of ultrasonography-guided single-and M-PCNL.METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study.Between March 2021 and January 2022,the urology department of our hospital selected patients for the treatment of staghorn calculi using percutaneous nephrolithotomy.The primary outcomes were com plication rate and SFR,and the characteristics of patients,operative parameters,laboratory measurements were also collected.RESULTS In total,345 patients were enrolled in the study(186 in the S-PCNL group and 159 in the M-PCNL group).The SFR in the M-PCNL group was significantly higher than that in the S-PCNL group(P=0.033).Moreover,the incidence rates of hydrothorax(P=0.03)and postoperative infection(P=0.012)were higher in the M-PCNL group than in the S-PCNL group.Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that post-operative white blood cell count(OR=2.57,95%CI:1.90-3.47,P<0.001)and stone size(OR=1.59,95%CI:1.27-2.00,P<0.001)were associated with a higher overall complication rate in the S-PCNL group.Body mass index(OR=1.22,95%CI:1.06-1.40,P=0.004)and stone size(OR=1.70,95%CI:1.35-2.15,P<0.001)were associated with increased overall complications in the M-PCNL group.CONCLUSION Multiple access tracts can facilitate higher SFR while slightly increasing the incidence of acceptable complications.

Investigation of rarely studied gravel layers found in the loess in Shandong Province,eastern China,reveals the fabric characteristics of two gravel layers(G1,G2)and the sedimentary characteristics of loess at the typical and well-preserved Heiyu section(HY),where,to determine the paleoclimatic changes during Marine Isotope Stage 3a.Optically stimulated luminescence dates of the HY formation range from 0.26±0.02 ka to 39.00±2.00 ka.In addition,the ages of G1 and G2 were estimated using the Bayesian model to be 39.60-40.50 and 29.00-29.50 ka.G1 and G2 are mainly composed of fine and medium gravel,both of which were subangular to subrounded limestone,with gravel directions to NE and E.The average flow velocity,average depth,and flood peak flow of G1 are 1.10 m/s,0.49 m,and 37.04 m^(3)/s,respectively,calculated using the flow energy method,whereas those of G2 are 0.98 m/s,0.38 m,and 18.38 m^(3)/s,respectively.Analysis of climate proxy indices show that the sedimentary environment of the gravel and loess in HY might be a regional response to global change.

Developing bioactive biomaterials with highly controlled functions is crucial to enhancing their applications in regenerative medicine.Citrate-based polymers are the few bioactive polymer biomaterials used in biomedicine because of their facile synthesis,controllable structure,biocompatibility,biomimetic viscoelastic mechanical behavior,and functional groups available for modification.In recent years,various multifunctional designs and biomedical applications,including cardiovascular,orthopedic,muscle tissue,skin tissue,nerve and spinal cord,bioimaging,and drug or gene delivery based on citrate-based polymers,have been extensively studied,and many of them have good clinical application potential.In this review,we summarize recent progress in the multifunctional design and biomedical applications of citrate-based polymers.We also discuss the further development of multifunctional citrate-based polymers with tailored properties to meet the requirements of various biomedical applications.

Red blood cells(RBCs)are an excellent choice for cell preparation research because of their biocompatibility,high drug loading,and long half-life.In this study,doxorubicin(DOX)was encapsulated with RBCs as the carrier.The biotin-avidin system binding principle was used to modify biotinylated cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartic acid(cRGD)onto RBC surfaces for accurate targeting,high drug loading,and sustained drug release.The RBC drug delivery system(DDS)was characterized,and the concentration of surface sulfur in the energy spectrum was 6.330%.The physical and chemical properties of RBC DDS were as follows:drug content,0.857 mg/mL;particle size,3339 nm;potential value,12.5 mV;and cumulative release rate,81.35%.There was no significant change in RBC morphology for up to seven days.The results of the targeting and cytotoxicity studies of RBC DDS showed that many RBCs covered the surfaces of U251 cells,and the fluorescence intensity was higher than that of MCF-7 cells.The IC50 value of unmodified drug-loaded RBCs was 2.5 times higher than that of targeted modified drug-loaded RBCs,indicating that the targeting of cancer cells produced satisfactory inhibition.This study confirms that the RBC DDS has the characteristics of accurate targeting,high drug loading,and slow drug release,which increases its likelihood of becoming a clinical cancer treatment in the future.

This study focuses on state-feedback and output-feedback neural learning control problems for discrete-time nonlinear systems in the pure-feedback form. First, an extended result for the exponential stability for a class of discrete-time linear time-varying(LTV) systems with n-step delays is proposed to verify the exponential convergence of estimated weights. Subsequently, both state-feedback and outputfeedback adaptive neural network(NN) controllers are constructed by combining the classical n-step and n-step input-output predictors. After ensuring convergence of the system output to a recurrent reference signal, the radial basis function subvector of NN is verified to satisfy the persistent exciting condition using the system state equation and the implicit function theorem. By combining the extended stability corollary of an LTV system, the estimated weights are verified to exponentially converge to their optimal values. By constructing "learning rules" and using a "mod" function, the estimated weights with a convergent sequence are synthetically represented and stored as the experience knowledge, which is reused to construct neural learning controllers. The proposed neural learning controllers not only accomplish similar control tasks but also reduce the burden of online computation compared with the conventional adaptive NN controllers.Finally, simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented schemes.

Neural Network-Based Variational Methods for Solving Quadratic Porous Medium Equations in High Dimensions

In this paper,we propose and study neural network-based methods for solutions of high-dimensional quadratic porous medium equation(QPME).Three variational formulations of this nonlinear PDE are presented:a strong formulation and two weak formulations.For the strong formulation,the solution is directly parameterized with a neural network and optimized by minimizing the PDEresidual.It can be proved that the convergence of the optimization problem guarantees the convergence of the approximate solution in the L^(1)sense.Theweak formulations are derived following(Brenier in Examples of hidden convexity in nonlinear PDEs,2020)which characterizes the very weak solutions of QPME.Specifically speaking,the solutions are represented with intermediate functions who are parameterized with neural networks and are trained to optimize the weak formulations.Extensive numerical tests are further carried out to investigate the pros and cons of each formulation in low and high dimensions.This is an initial exploration made along the line of solving high-dimensional nonlinear PDEs with neural network-based methods,which we hope can provide some useful experience for future investigations.

The gut microbiota significantly influences host physiology and provides essential ecosystem services.While diet can affect the composition of the gut microbiota,the gut microbiota can also help the host adapt to specific dietary habits.The carrion crow(Corvus corone),an urban facultative scavenger bird,hosts an abundance of pathogens due to its scavenging behavior.Despite this,carrion crows infrequently exhibit illness,a phenomenon related to their unique physiological adaptability.At present,however,the role of the gut microbiota remains incompletely understood.In this study,we performed a comparative analysis using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technology to assess colonic content in carrion crows and 16 other bird species with different diets in Beijing,China.Our findings revealed that the dominant gut microbiota in carrion crows was primarily composed of Proteobacteria(75.51%)and Firmicutes(22.37%).Significant differences were observed in the relative abundance of Enterococcus faecalis among groups,highlighting its potential as a biomarker of facultative scavenging behavior in carrion crows.Subsequently,E.faecalis isolated from carrion crows was transplanted into model mice to explore the protective effects of this bacterial community against Salmonella enterica infection.Results showed that E.faecalis down-regulated the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),interferon gamma(IFN-γ),and interleukin 6(IL-6),prevented S.enterica colonization,and regulated the composition of gut microbiota in mice,thereby modulating the host’s immune regulatory capacity.Therefore,E.faecalis exerts immunoregulatory and anti-pathogenic functions in carrion crows engaged in scavenging behavior,offering a representative case of how the gut microbiota contributes to the protection of hosts with specialized diets.

Lamellar calcite veins are prevalent in carbonate-rich, lacustrine dark shale. The formation mechanisms of these veins have been extensively debated, focusing on factors such as timing, depth, material source,and driving forces. This paper examines dark lacustrine shale lamellar calcite veins in the Paleogene strata of Dongying Depression, using various analytical techniques: petrography, isotope geochemistry,cathodoluminescence, inclusion thermometry, and electron probe micro-analysis. Two distinct types of calcite veins have been identified: granular calcite veins and sparry calcite veins. These two types differ significantly in color, grain structure, morphology, and inclusions. Through further investigation, it was observed that vein generation occurred from the shallow burial period to the maturation of organic matter, with a transition from granular calcite veins to sparry calcite veins. The granular calcite veins exhibit characteristics associated with the shallow burial period, including plastically deformed laminae and veins, the development of strawberry pyrite, the absence of oil and gas, weak fractionation in oxygen isotopes, and their contact relationship with sparry calcite veins. These granular calcite veins were likely influenced by the reduction of sulfate bacteria. On the other hand, sparry calcite veins with fibrous grains are antitaxial and closely linked to the evolution and maturation of organic matter. They contain oil and gas inclusions and show a distribution range of homogenization temperature between 90°C and 120°C and strong fractionation in oxygen isotopes, indicating formation during the hydrocarbon expulsion period. The carbon isotope analysis of the surrounding rocks and veins suggests that the material for vein formation originates from the shale itself, specifically authigenic micritic calcite modified by the action of methanogens. The opening of horizontal fractures and vein formation is likely driven by fluid overpressure resulting from undercompaction and hydrocarbon expulsion

The semantic segmentation methods based on CNN have made great progress,but there are still some shortcomings in the application of remote sensing images segmentation,such as the small receptive field can not effectively capture global context.In order to solve this problem,this paper proposes a hybrid model based on ResNet50 and swin transformer to directly capture long-range dependence,which fuses features through Cross Feature Modulation Module(CFMM).Experimental results on two publicly available datasets,Vaihingen and Potsdam,are mIoU of 70.27%and 76.63%,respectively.Thus,CFM-UNet can maintain a high segmentation performance compared with other competitive networks.
