In early morning of Aug 8th, 2010, the rain-triggered tremendous debris flows broke out simultaneously at the Sanyanyu ravine and Luojiayu ravine, which locate in the north part of Zhouqu County town. The debris flow is the most severe event of the same kind of disasters in the past sixty years in China, which caused great losses of people's lives and properties. Based on field investigation, remote sensing image interpretation and analysis of local climatological data, the local topographical conditions, active tectonic movement, massive debris source and torrential rains were the main formation causes which induced the catastrophic debris flows. Moreover, detailed geological surveys were carried out following the disaster, the other geological potential hazard sites were found out, and the geological and seismic hazard assessment has been put into practice. At last, scientific and appropriate countermeasures have been suggested to prevent and mitigate the extraordinarily serious debris flow.

4-Fluoro-7-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole（NBD-F） was employed as a colorimetric probe for differential detection of biothiols in different media. The spectral response and the selectivity of NBD-F toward thiols were significantly improved by surfactant micelles. Mercapto group exhibited high reactivity in all the solvents（including Tris–HCl buffer solution, CTAB and SDS micelles）. The 4-thioether derivatives of NBDF reacting with Cys and Hcy but not GSH could transfer to the corresponding 4-amino-substituents via intramolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution, thus, GSH could be discriminated from Cys/Hcy. In CTAB micelles, the reaction product of NBD-F with Cys is non-fluorescent and it absorbs in longwavelength region. According to the spectral responses of NBD-F toward different low-molecularweight thiols, we could identify Cys, Hcy and GSH from each other.

Composite Polyphosphazene Membranes Doped with Phosphotungstic Acid and Silica

Poly（bis（phenoxy）phosphazene）（SPBPP）/phosphotungstic acid （PWA）/silica composite membranes for fuel cells were prepared. The composite membranes were characterized by using FTIR, TGA and SEM techniquies. Incorporation of PWA particles and silica particles into the SPBPP polymer matrix and a specific interaction between them were confirmed by FTIR spectra. TGA results showed that the composite membranes had high thermal stability. Homogeneous distribution of PWA and silica particles within the SPBPP matrix was verified by SEM micrographs. The doped membranes showed increased water uptake and proton conductivity.

Loess is widely distributed in China and the Loess Plateau is one of the major areas where strong earthquakes often take place. The seismic amplification effects were discovered in the Plateau during the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake and some other strong events. Based on earth tremor observation, borehole exploration and site seismic response analysis, the site effects of topography of Loess Yuan on ground motion were investigated in details. The earth tremor investigation shows that predominant frequencies at the bottom sites of Loess Yuan are greater than those at the top obviously. The sites seismic response analysis shows that the Loess Yuan may amplify peak ground acceleration (PGA) by 1.44 2.0 times. Therefore, site effects of mountains and loess topography on ground motion should be taken account into in seismic design in loess regions.

Two new ratiometric hypoxia probes(Ir-C343 and Ir-GFP)are synthesized by covalently incorporating florescent internal standard molecules coumarin 343(C343)and green fluorescent protein(GFP)into bis[1-(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-isoquinoline](succinylacetone)Ir(Ⅲ)(Ir-fliq),*** connecting with internal standard molecules,the Ir-fliq moiety still exhibits high sensitivity to oxygen concentration,while the fluorescence intensity of the internal standard remains relatively constant under different oxygen *** a result,a ratiometric response is realized that is only related to oxygen *** addition,Ir-GFP shows more promising applications in the ratiometric hypoxia imaging of cells due to its long excitation wavelength,good water solubility,high biocompatibility,and low relative fluorescence intensity compared with the phosphorescent emitter Ir-fliq.

COLORIMETRIC DETECTION OF CARBENICILLIN USING CATIONIC POLYTHIOPHENE DERIVATIVES

A water-soluble, polythiophene-based colorimetric sensor was designed for selective and sensitive detection of carbenicillin in HEPES buffer solution. Quaternized quinine was linked to thiophene through bis-functionality benzyl group, which can interact with carbenicillin via electrostatic interaction and geometric match effect. The sensor exhibited a colorimetric signal change upon the addition of carbenicillin because of the formation of more nonplanar structures. However, the addition of other beta-lactarn antibiotics or dicarboxylic acids into the sensor solution caused no obvious changes in absorbance intensity ratio. This result may be attributed to the cavity formed by the semi-rigid framework of PTQ2, which is suitable for the special binding with carbenicillin. This novel sensor can effectively distinguish carbenicillin from other beta-lactam antibiotics and has a wide linear range response in HEPES buffer solution. Linear calibration curves are obtained with 0 to 18 μmol/L of HEPES buffer solution, with a limit of detection of 0.54μmol/L.

Myocardial ischemia reperfusion(IR)injury is closely related to the overwhelming inflammation in the ***,cardiomyocyte-targeted nanotherapeutics were developed for the reactive oxygen species(ROS)-ultrasensitive co-delivery of dexamethasone(Dex)and RAGE small interfering RNA(siRAGE)to attenuate myocardial ***,a ROSdegradable polycation based on PGE2-modified,PEGylated,ditellurium-crosslinked polyethylenimine(PEI)was developed to surface-decorate the Dex-encapsulated mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNs),which simultaneously condensed siRAGE and gated the MSNs to prevent the Dex *** intravenous injection to IR-injured rats,the nanotherapeutics could be efficiently transported into the inflamed cardiomyocytes via PGE2-assisted recognition of over-expressed E-series of prostaglandin(EP)receptors on the cell ***,the over-produced ROS degraded PPTP into small segments,promoting the release of siRAGE and Dex to mediate effective RAGE silencing(72%)and cooperative antiinflammatory *** a consequence,the nanotherapeutics notably suppressed the myocardial fibrosis and apoptosis,ultimately recovering the systolic ***,the current nanotherapeutics represent an effective example for the codelivery and on-demand release of nucleic acid and chemodrug payloads,and might find promising utilities toward the synergistic management of myocardial inflammation.

Objective:To assess the effect of angiotensin II type 1(AT1)receptor antagonist losartan on myocardium con- nexin43(Cx43)gap junction(GJ)expression in spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHRs)and investigate possible mechanisms. Methods:Sixteen 9-week-old male SHRs and 8 age-matched male Wistar-Kyoto(WKY)rats were included in this *** were randomly divided into two groups to receive losartan at 30 mg/(kg·d)by oral gavage once daily for 8 weeks(SHR-L)or vehicle(0.9%saline)to act as controls(SHR-V);WKY rats receiving vehicle for 8 weeks served as normotensive *** the end of the experiment,rats were sacrificed and the hearts were *** of Cx43 and nuclear factor-kappaB p65 (NF-κB p65)proteins in all three groups were observed and further investigations on the effect of angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist losartan(30 mg/(kg·d),8 weeks)on Cx43 expression were conducted with Western blot and immunohistochemistry. NF-κB p65 protein in nuclear extracts was determined by Western ***:Left ventricular(LV)hypertrophy was prominent in SHRs,Cx43 and NF-κB p65 protein expressions were obviously upregulated and Cx43 distribution was dispersed over the cell *** with losarton reduced the over-expressions of Cx43 and NF-κB p65 in LV *** distribution of Cx43 gap junction also became much regular and confined to intercalated disk after losartan ***- sion:Cx43 level was upregulated in LV myocardium of SHR during early stage of *** II type 1 receptor antagonist losartan prevented Cx43 gap junction remodeling in hypertrophied left ventricles,possibly through the NF-κB pathway.

AIM: To investigate molecular mechanism of testis development and spermatogenesis. METHODS: A human testis cDNA microarray was hybridized with probes from human adult testis, embryo testis and human sperm, and the differential expressed clones were sequenced and analyzed. Expression of PIAS-NY gene was analyzed by RT PCR. RESULT: A new isoform of PIAS family, named PIAS-NY, was isolated from human testis cDNA liabrary. It was strongly expressed in adult testis and weakly expressed in both embryo testis and human sperm. Analysis of the open reading frame of PIAS-NY indicated that PIAS-NY was a polypeptide of 405 amino acid residues, and the sequence from the 15th amino acid to the end of PIAS-NY protein was the same as the N-terminal amino acids of PIASx-a and PIASx-β protein. PIAS-NY protein contained two conserved putative LXXLL signature motifs and a zinc binding motif.
