In this study,the texture of a rolled Mg alloy is effectively modified through the application of precompression and subsequent annealing treatment,leading to a remarkable improvement in the bending formability of the alloy at room temperature.Precompression induces lattice reorientation through{10-12}twinning,and annealing treatment reduces the stored strain energy of the precompressed material,which results in the formation of a stable grain structure with two dominant texture components.With an increase in precompression,the tensile strain in the outer region of the bending samples is accommodated to a greater extent due to more pronounced{10-12}twinning and basal slip.As a result,the bending formability of the material at room temperature improves with greater precompression.The variation in microstructure,texture,and bending behavior in relation to the degree of precompression is discussed in detail.

Objective： To evaluate the potential pharmacokinetic interactions of the anticancer agent gefitinib （Iressae） and the oriental medications Guipi Decoction （归脾汤, GPD, Guibi-tang in Korean） and Bawu Decoction （八物汤, BWD, Palmul-tang in Korean）. Methods： Methylceliulose （MC, control）, GPD （1,200 mg/kg）, or BWD （6,000 mg/kg） was orally administered to rats either as a single dose or multiple doses prior to gefitinib administration. To examine the effects of a single dose of the herbal medicines, gefitinib （10 mg/kg） was orally administered after 5 min or 1 h of MC or the herbal medicine pretreatments. To examine the effects of the multiple doses of the herbal medicines, gefltinib （10 mg/kg） was orally administered following 7 consecutive days of the administration of MC or each herbal medicine. The plasma concentrations of gefitinib were determined with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry assay. The plasma concentration-time profiles of gefitinib were analyzed with a noncompartmental analysis. Results： Gefitinib was rapidly absorbed and showed a mono- exponential decline with an elimination half-life of 3.7-4.1 h. The pharmacokinetics of gefitinib was not affected by GPD pretreatment. However, a significantly lower maximum plasma concentration （Crux, P〈0.05） and area under the curve （P〈0.05）, and a delayed time to reach Cmax （Tmax, P〈0.01） were observed in both single- and multiple- dose BWD-pretreated rats compared with the control rats. Conclusions： BWD and not GPD might delay and interfere with gefitinib absorption. Further evaluations of the clinical significance of these findings are needed.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Capsosiphon fulvescens(C.fulvescens)ethanolic extract on inflammation in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced RAW296.7 macrophages.Methods:The protective effects of C.fulvescens ethanolic extract on LPS-induced inflammation in RAW264.7 macrophages were assessed using biochemical analysis,including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,and Western blot analysis.To examine reactive oxygen species(ROS)production,flow cytometry analysis,and immunofluorescence staining were used.Furthermore,the modulatory effect of C.fulvescens ethanolic extract on NF-κB activation was investigated.Results:C.fulvescens ethanolic extract significantly attenuated LPS-induced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and notably reduced the secretion and mRNA levels of LPS-mediated matrix metalloproteinases.In addition,C.fulvescens ethanolic extract decreased ROS production and suppressed the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway.Conclusions:C.fulvescens ethanolic extract alleviates inflammation as well as oxidative stress by modulating the TLR4/NF-κB signaling in LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophages.C.fulvescens can be used as a potential therapeutic agent to suppress inflammation and oxidative stress-associated diseases.

Despite the success of antiretroviral therapy(ART),efforts to develop new classes of antiviral agents have been hampered by the emergence of drug resistance.Dibenzo-indole-bearing aristolactams are compounds that have been isolated from various plants species and which show several clinically relevant effects,including anti-inflammatory,antiplatelet,and antimycobacterial actions.However,the effect of these compounds on human immunodeficiency virus type 1(HIV-1)infection has not yet been studied.In this study,we discovered an aristolactam derivative bearing dibenzo[cd,f]indol-4(5 H)-one that had a potent anti-HIV-1 effect.A structure-activity relationship(SAR)study using nine synthetic derivatives of aristolactam identified the differing effects of residue substitutions on the inhibition of HIV-1 infection and cell viability.Among the compounds tested,1,2,8,9-tetramethoxy-5-(2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethyl)-dibenzo[cd,f]indol-4(5 H)-one(Compound 2)exhibited the most potent activity by inhibiting HIV-1 infection with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)of 1.03 lmol/L and a half-maximal cytotoxic concentration(CC50)of 16.91 lmol/L(selectivity index,16.45).The inhibitory effect of the compounds on HIV-1 infection was linked to inhibition of the viral replication cycle.Mode-of-action studies showed that the aristolactam derivatives did not affect reverse transcription or integration;instead,they specifically inhibited Tat-mediated viral transcription.Taken together,these findings show that several aristolactam derivatives impaired HIV-1 infection by inhibiting the activity of Tat-mediated viral transcription,and suggest that these derivatives could be antiviral drug candidates.

This study presents the development of an ultrasonic transducer with a radius horn for an ultrasonic milling spindle(UMS)system.The ultrasonic transducer was intended to have a working frequency of approximately 30 kHz.Two different materials were considered in the study:stainless steel(SS 316L)and titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V).Titanium alloy gave a higher resonance frequency(33 kHz)than stainless steel(30 kHz)under the same preload compression stress.An electromechanical impedance simulation was carried out to predict the impedance resonance frequency for both materials,and the effect of the overhanging toolbar was investigated.According to the electromechanical impedance simulation,the overhanging toolbar length affected the resonance frequency,and the error was less than 3%.Harmonic analysis confirmed that the damping ratio helps determine the resonance amplitude.Therefore,damping ratios of 0.015-0.020 and 0.005-0.020 were selected for stainless steel and titanium alloy,respectively,with an error of less than 1.5%.Experimental machining was also performed to assess the feasibility of ultrasonic-assisted milling;the result was a lesser cutting force and better surface topography of Al 6061.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the optimal timing and underlying mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA)at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)for improved long-term functional recovery after focal cerebral ischemia in a photothrombotic stroke mouse model.METHODS:Totally 50 adult male C57 BL/6 J mice were assigned into 5 groups:(a)the control group,sham-operated mice(n=10);(b)the vehicle group,focal cerebral ischemia induction without EA(n=10);(c)the acute EA group,mice received EA immediately post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(d)the subacute EA group,mice received EA 4 days post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(e)the delayed EA group.EA stimulation(2 Hz,2 V for 20 min)was applied to acupuncture points(acupoints),Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14),once a day for 7 consecutive days beginning immediately(acute treatment),4 d(subacute treatment)and 10 d(delayed treatment)after focal cerebral ischemia in C57 BL/6 J mice.Behavioral assessments were conducted 21 and 28 d post-ischemia and histopathological analyses were performed 28 days post-ischemia.RESULTS:The subacute EA treatment at Baihui(GV20)and Dazhui(GV 14)significantly improved functional recovery compared to the vehicle group 28 d after ischemic brain injury,although brain atrophy was not reduced.The number of Neu N+and Neu N+/Brd U+cells as well as GFAP intensity in the ipsilateral cortex were significantly increased in the subacute group compared to the vehicle group 28 d post-ischemia.We concluded that EA stimulation 4 d post-ischemia(subacute treatment)enhanced neurogenesis and astrogliosis,likely contributing to long-term functional recovery following focal cerebral ischemia.CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that the timing of the EA therapy at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)determines the therapeutic effects in mice with focal cerebral ischemia induced by photothrombotic occlusion.

Among many biomaterials,gelatin methacrylate(GelMA),a photocurable protein,has been widely used in 3D bioprinting process owing to its excellent cellular responses,biocompatibility and biodegradability.However,GelMA still shows a low processability due to the severe temperature dependence of viscosity.To overcome this obstacle,we propose a two-stage temperature control system to effectively control the viscosity of GelMA.To optimize the process conditions,we evaluated the temperature of the cooling system(jacket and stage).Using the established system,three GelMA scaffolds were fabricated in which different concentrations(0,3 and 10 wt%)of silanated silica particles were embedded.To evaluate the performances of the prepared scaffolds suitable for hard tissue regeneration,we analyzed the physical(viscoelasticity,surface roughness,compressive modulus and wettability)and biological(human mesenchymal stem cells growth,western blotting and osteogenic differentiation)properties.Consequently,the composite scaffold with greater silica contents(10 wt%)showed enhanced physical and biological performances including mechanical strength,cell initial attachment,cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation compared with those of the controls.Our results indicate that the GelMA/silanated silica composite scaffold can be potentially used for hard tissue regeneration.

Synthesis of Al-doped ZnO Nanorods via Microemulsion Method and Their Application as a CO Gas Sensor

Aluminum doped ZnO(AZO) nanorods were synthesized by microemulsion method with different types of surfactants.The phase and the morphology of the above nanorods were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).SEM observations showed that the ZnO nanorods had diameters around about 50—200 nm and lengths up to several micrometers.The CO gas sensing properties of the AZO nanorods were tested at operating temperatures of 200,300,350 and 400 ℃.It was found that AZO nanorods based sensor exhibited the highest sensitivity to CO at 350℃.

BACKGROUND: Although perioperative portal vein (PV) stent implantation is an effective treatment for steno-occlusive disease in adult living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) re-cipients, we experienced high incidence of biliary anastomotic strictures (BAS) after PV stenting. In this study, we sought to clarify the relation between BAS and PV stenting and to suggest the possible mechanism of BAS and measures to reduce its in-cidence. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 44 LDLT recipients who underwent PV stent implantation across the line of PV anastomosis regardless of the location of steno-occlusion (stent group) and their matched controls (non-stented LDLT recipients, n=131). RESULTS: The incidence of BAS was higher in patients in the stent group than that in the control group (43.2% vs 17.6%, P=0.001). Cumulative 6-month and 1-, 2- and 5-year BAS rates were 31.8%, 34.1%, 41.4% and 43.2%, respectively, in the stent group and 13.0%, 13.8%, 16.1% and 17.8%, respectively, in the control group (P=0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that PV stenting was an independent risk factor for BAS. CONCLUSIONS: Although PV stent implantation is a reliable treatment modality for steno-occlusive PV in adult LDLT recipients, innovative methods to prevent the PV stent from crossing the line of PV anastomosis may be necessary to reduce the incidence of postoperative BAS.
