To analyze the learning curve for cancer control from an initial 250 cases （Group I） and subsequent 250 cases （Group II） of robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy （RALP） performed by a single surgeon. Five hundred consecutive patients with clinically localized prostate cancer received RALP and were evaluated. Surgical parameters and perioperative complications were compared between the groups, Positive surgical margin （PSM） and biochemical recurrence （BCR） were assessed as cancer control outcomes. Patients in Group II had significantly more advanced prostate cancer than those in Group I （22.2% vs 14.2%, respectively, with Gleason score 8-10, P = 0.033; 12.8% vs 5.6%, respectively, with clinical stage T3, P = 0.017）. The incidence of PSM in pT3 was decreased significantly from 49% in Group I to 32.6% in Group Ih A meaningful trend was noted for a decreasing PSM rate with each consecutive group of 50 cases, including pT3 and high-risk patients. Neurovascular bundle （NVB） preservation was significantly influenced by the PSM in high-risk patients （84.1% in the preservation group vs 43.9% in the nonpreservation group）. The 3-year, 5-year, and 7-year BCR-free survival rates were 79.2%, 75.3%, and 70.2%, respectively. In conclusion, the incidence of PSM in pT3 was decreased significantly after 250 cases. There was a trend in the surgical learning curve for decreasing PSM with each group of 50 cases. NVB preservation during RALP for the high-risk group is not suggested due to increasing PSM.

Survivin is an inhibitor of apoptosis protein and also plays a important role in the development of several malignancies. To investigate the association between survivin promoter –31 G/C (rs9904341) polymorphism and bladder cancer (BC) risk. A total of 200 pathologically confirmed BC cases and 200 unrelated cancer-free controls were recruited in Chiayi Christian Hospital from August 2002 to May 2009. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to determine the –31 G/C polymorphism at survivin promoter region. There was a significant difference in the frequency distribution of survivin promoter –31 G/C polymorphism in BC cases as compared to controls. Among BC cases, individuals with the C/C genotype of survivin promoter have a significantly higher prevalence of invasive (T2-T4) or high-grade (G2-G3) tumors as compared to those who carried the G/G genotype. In conclusion, our findings suggest that the survivin promoter –31 G/C polymorphism was not only associated with clinical stage and pathological grade but also involved in the development of bladder cancer.

This study aims to investigate the influence of CO_(2)-mixing dose(mass fractions of 0.3%,0.6%,and 0.9%)and prolonged mixing time on the fresh and hardened properties of cement *** CO_(2)-mixing can act as coagulant in fresh cement mixtures,resulting in a significant reduction in workability associated with the formation of a rich calcium carbonate network on the surface of cement *** CO_(2)-mixing cement pastes were found to be much stiffer and more difficult to handle,place,and compact than the control mixture,which had a negative effect on the mechanical strength performance of the hardened ***,prolonging the mixing time for 1 min(immediately after CO_(2)-mixing)can effectively improve the workability(by~53%–85%)by breaking up the flocculation network of deposited calcium *** a result,the presence of detached calcium carbonate accelerated early cement hydration and densified the microstructure;this improved early-age compressive strength by~6%–32%,depending on the CO_(2)-mixing dose ***,it seems that the CO_(2)-mixing dose should be controlled at≤0.6%with the mixing time prolonged in order to attain satisfactory workability and mechanical strength.
