We evaluated whether the prostate-specific antigen (PSA)mass or free PSA (fPSA)mass (i.e.,absolute amount of total circulating PSA or fPSA protein,respectively),versus serum PSA or fPSA concentration,improves the accuracy of predicting the total prostate volume (TPV)in relation to *** men whose multicore (≥12)transrectal prostate biopsy was negative,586 who had a PSA of mining TPVs of ≥30 ml and ≥50 ml in obese and overweight men,they did not improve the accuracy in most other combinations of the degrees of obesity with TPV cut-off ***,compared with serum PSA or fPSA,the absolute amount of PSA or fPSA protein mass improved the accuracy of predicting TPV in obese men very minimally and only for certain TPV cut-off ***,these indicators may not provide clinically meaningful improvement in predicting TPV in obese men.

The silver-palladium(Ag-Pd) alloy coating as a solid lubricant was investigated for its application to the high temperature stud bolts used in nuclear power plants.A hex bolt sample was prepared in the following steps:1) bolt surface treatment using alumina grit blasting for cleaning and increasing the surface area;2) nickel(Ni) film coating as a glue layer on the surface of the bolt;and 3) Ag-Pd alloy coating on the Ni *** films were deposited by using a direct current(DC) magnetron sputtering *** thickness and composition of the Ag-Pd alloy film have effect on the friction coefficient,which was determined using axial force measurement.A 500 nm-thick Ag-Pd(80-20,molar ratio) alloy film has the lowest friction coefficient of 0.109.A cyclic test was conducted to evaluate the durability of bolts coated with either the Ag-Pd(80-20) alloy film or N-5000 *** a cycle,the bolts were inserted into a block using a torque wrench,which was followed by heating and *** only one cycle,it was not possible to remove the bolts coated with the N-5000 oil from the ***,the bolts coated with the Ag-Pd(80-20) alloy could be easily removed up until 15 cycles.

This study attempted to develop an appropriate catalyst used for the steam reforming of gasified spent solvents. Rh2O3/ CeOE-Al2O3 catalysts with various CeO2 loadings were prepared and heated at different temperatures of 500 and 800 ℃, and their surface properties were studied using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, temperature programmed reduction （TPR） and Bmmauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） analyses. Rhodium existed in the form of Rh2O3, regardless of the sample composition as well as the heating temperature. In the tested range of cerium addition （up to 12 times the rhodium mass）, no significant changes in BET surface areas and binding energy corresponding to Rh 3d5/2 were observed. Instead, the addition of cerium led to a greatly enhanced dispersion of rhodium nanoparticles, and no agglomeration of rhodium was observed for samples heated even at 800 ℃. Honeycomb monolith rhodium catalysts promoted with cerium were fabricated and tested for the steam reforming of a gasified spent solvent, mainly consisting of butylene （C4H8）. The test results suggested that a cerium-promoted rhodium catalyst could be used as an appropriate reforming catalyst for treating low-quality non-methane hydrocarbons without the formation of coke at high temperatures of up to 900 ℃.

Poly(ether imide)(PEI)has shown satisfactory corrosion protection capability with good adhesion strength as a coating for magnesium(Mg),a potential candidate of biodegradable orthopedic implant ***,its innate hydrophobic property causes insufficient osteoblast affinity and a lack of ***,we modify the physical and chemical properties of a PEI-coated Mg implant.A plasma immersion ion implantation technique is combined with direct current(DC)magnetron sputtering to introduce biologically compatible tantalum(Ta)onto the surface of the PEI *** PEI-coating layer is not damaged during this process owing to the extremely short processing time(30 s),retaining its high corrosion protection property and adhesion *** Ta-implanted layer(roughly 10-nm-thick)on the topmost PEI surface generates long-term surface hydrophilicity and favorable surface conditions for pre-osteoblasts to adhere,proliferate,and ***,in a rabbit femur study,the Ta/PEI-coated Mg implant demonstrates significantly enhanced bone tissue affinity and osseointegration *** results indicate that Ta/PEI-coated Mg is promising for achieving early mechanical fixation and long-term success in biodegradable orthopedic implant applications.

AIM： To correlate the clinical features of treated and untreated patients with irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） to the results of skin prick test （SPT） for food and inhalant allergens. METHODS： We recruited 105 subjects to form three different target groups： treated group （n=44） undergoing treatment for IBS, untreated group （n =31） meeting the Rome Ⅱ criteria without treatment for IBS, control group （n = 30） with no IBS symptoms. RESULTS： SPT results were different among the three groups in which SPT was positive in 17 （38.6%） treated patients, in 5 （16.1%） untreated patients and in 1 （3.3%） control （P〈0.01）. The number of positive SPTs was greater in the IBS group than in the control group （P〈 0.001）. The number of positive food SPTs was higher in the treated IBS group than in the untreated IBS group （P= 0.03）. CONCLUSION： Positive food SPT is higher in IBS patients than in controls.

Flexible copper clad laminates(FCCLs) were fabricated using the electro-plating process and the combined effect of the current density and plating time on their surface morphology,texture,hardness,electrical resistivity and folding behavior was *** achieve Cu layers with similar thicknesses,the current density was varied in the range of 0.2-3 A/dm2 and the plating time was controlled in the range of 0.5-7.5 h to compensate for the variation of the current *** surface morphology,hardness,and folding behavior were characterized by atomic force microscopy,nanoindentation technique and Massachusett Institute of Technology folding endurance test,*** X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the Cu phase was formed without any secondary phases;however,the preferred orientation changed from(220) to(111) as the current density increased over 1 A/*** addition,it was observed that the root-mean-square and hardness values decreased when the current density increased and the plating time decreased *** electrical resistivity was as low as approximately 21 nΩ·m and the number of cycles without failure in the folding test was over 15 000,which were comparable to those of commercial FCCLs.

Endogenous neural stem cells become ＂activated＂ after neuronal injury, but the activation sequence and fate of endogenous neural stem cells in focal cerebral ischemia model are little known. We evaluated the relationships between neural stem cells and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α and vascular endothelial growth factor expression in a photothromobotic rat stroke model using immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis. We also evaluated the chronological changes of neural stem cells by 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine（BrdU） incorporation. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α expression was initially increased from 1 hour after ischemic injury, followed by vascular endothelial growth factor expression. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α immunoreactivity was detected in the ipsilateral cortical neurons of the infarct core and peri-infarct area. Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoreactivity was detected in bilateral cortex, but ipsilateral cortex staining intensity and numbers were greater than the contralateral cortex. Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoreactive cells were easily found along the peri-infarct area 12 hours after focal cerebral ischemia. The expression of nestin increased throughout the microvasculature in the ischemic core and the peri-infarct area in all experimental rats after 24 hours of ischemic injury. Nestin immunoreactivity increased in the subventricular zone during 12 hours to 3 days, and prominently increased in the ipsilateral cortex between 3–7 days. Nestin-labeled cells showed dual differentiation with microvessels near the infarct core and reactive astrocytes in the peri-infarct area. BrdU-labeled cells were increased gradually from day 1 in the ipsilateral subventricular zone and cortex, and numerous BrdU-labeled cells were observed in the peri-infarct area and non-lesioned cortex at 3 days. Prostaglandin E2 （PGE2） is known to have a key role in the development of colorectal cancer, but previous experiments showed its contrasting （i.e. tumor-promoting or tu mor-suppressive） roles depending on experimental conditions. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying such contrasting roles of PG E2 in tumorigenesis, we investigated all the previous experiments and found a new signal transduction pathway mediated by retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor （ROR）α, in which PGE2/PKCα-dependent phosphorylation of RORα attenuates Wnt target gene expression in colon cancer ceils. From mathematical simulations combined with biochemical experimentation, we revealed that RORα induces a biphasic response of Wnt target genes to PGE2 stimulation through a regulatory switch formed by an incoherent feedforward loop, which provides a mechanistic explanation on the contrasting roles of PGE2 observed in previous experiments. More interestingly, we found that RORα constitutes another regulatory switch formed by coupled positive and negative feedback loops, which regulates the hysteretic response of Wnt signaling and eventually converts a proliferative cellular state into an anti-proliferative state in a very delicate way. Our results indicate that RORα is the key regulator at the center of these hidden switches that critically regulate cancer celt proliferation and thereby being a promising anti-cancer therapeutic target.
