Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is not a common congenital vascular abnormality. A trio of capillary malformation, venous varicosities, and bony or soft-tissue hypertrophy define this syndrome. Significant morbidities associated with this illness include bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, and embolic consequences. Angiokeratoma circumscriptum naeviforme (ACN) is indeed a congenital variant of angiokeratoma that appears as a hyperkeratotic plaque on the lower extremity. Bilateral congenital anorchia (BCA) is the total lack of testicular tissue in a male with a normal phenotype and karyotype. KTS has been linked to ACN. Here we presented an 8-year-old male child who came with a swollen left thigh and the right side of his face with overlying blackish nodules on his left thigh and scrotum. The patient was diagnosed as KTS with angiokeratoma circumscriptum naeviforme and bilateral congenital anorchia based on his history, imaging studies and the typical clinical features of the disease.

Fake Profile Detection Using Machine Learning Techniques

Our lives are significantly impacted by social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others. People are actively participating in it the world over. However, it also has to deal with the issue of bogus profiles. False accounts are frequently created by humans, bots, or computers. They are used to disseminate rumors and engage in illicit activities like identity theft and phishing. So, in this project, the author’ll talk about a detection model that uses a variety of machine learning techniques to distinguish between fake and real Twitter profiles based on attributes like follower and friend counts, status updates, and more. The author used the dataset of Twitter profiles, separating real accounts into TFP and E13 and false accounts into INT, TWT, and FSF. Here, the author discusses LSTM, XG Boost, Random Forest, and Neural Networks. The key characteristics are chosen to assess a social media profile’s authenticity. Hyperparameters and the architecture are also covered. Finally, results are produced after training the models. The output is therefore 0 for genuine profiles and 1 for false profiles. When a phony profile is discovered, it can be disabled or destroyed so that cyber security problems can be prevented. Python and the necessary libraries, such as Sklearn, Numpy, and Pandas, are used for implementation. At the end of this study, the author will come to the conclusion that XG Boost is the best machine learning technique for finding fake profiles.

Dependency on forest resources poses a threat to the environment in Patharghata, Bangladesh. Therefore, this study explores the role of forest resource in the life and livelihood of coastal people as well as to understand the effectiveness of forest and status of forest dependency in and around south-central coast in Patharghata, Bangladesh. We collected data randomly from 105 household heads through both open and close-ended questionnaire. To investigate the forest dependency and people’s perception regarding alternative solutions, Microsoft excel software program has been applied. The findings reveal that usage of fuelwood in cooking, housing structure, fish catching, honey & fodder collection significantly contributes to household dependency on forest resources, while other variables seem to be insignificant. Our study amplifies that the share of forest income to the total household income was only 19% while other earning sources provided 81% income. The result shows that respondent people collect forest resources primarily for cooking purpose with a share of 71% where 9% forest resources are collected as fodder followed by 8% forest resource collection as food and sheltering purposes. Moreover, the study found that using alternative cooking system, artificial instruments, declaring the forest as tourist spot, changes in housing structure, occupation are some effective options to reduce forest dependency. The study concludes that these alternative options need more financial and other support from the government, non-government and other civil society organizations to cut down forest resource dependency.

Production of Bioethanol at High Temperature from Tari

Many microorganisms can tolerate high-temperature ranges from 37°C - 45°C are called thermotolerant microorganisms. Eighteen such isolates containing various microorganisms were collected from the natural fermented products of Bangladesh in summer for bioethanol production. Cultural, morphological, physiological, biochemical and genetical analysis were carried out under various physiological conditions. Among them, two thermotolerant strains Tari-6, isolated from the Tari (an overnight natural fermented palm juice at around 33°C - 40°C) and Pvt-1, isolated from the Pantavat (an overnight natural fermented rice soaked with tap water at around 35°C - 37°C), produced high amount of bioethanol, 7.5% (v/v) and 6.5% (v/v), respectively at 37°C. Furthermore, a partial 26S rDNA sequencing results confirmed that the Tari-6 and Pvt-1 encoded Pichia galeiformi and Pichia guilliermondii, respectively, and later one could grow well in media containing Xylose. Our results conclude that these two yeast strains are the potential candidates for bioethanol production.

Genetic diversity is one of the useful tools to select appropriate lines for hybridization. Twenty short-statured maize inbred lines were taken for present study, which were collected from CIMMYT India and Mexico through Plant Breeding Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur. This experiment was conducted from November 2015 to April 2016 to identify parental lines to produce single cross short statured maize hybrids. From the genetic diversity studies, the importance of both additive and non-additive gene actions for the expression of yield and yield contributing characters were found. Values of vector I and II revealed that both the vectors had positive values for date of silking, plant height, rows/cob, grains/row and yield. Background: Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is the most prevalent rheumatic disease in children. It is associated with abnormal levels of serum zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) as during inflammation serum copper concentration increases and zinc decreases. Objective: To assess the serum Zn and Cu levels in different sub-types of JIA patients and their correlation with the disease duration. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted over twelve months at the Pediatric Rheumatology Division, Department of Paediatrics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Sixty-nine JIA cases that fulfilled the International League of Association for Rheumatology (ILAR) criteria were taken as cases and age and sex-matched healthy children were considered as controls. The serum Zn and Cu tests were done using the spectrophotometric method with INDIKO PLUS Drug Analyzer. Data were recorded in a pre-designed questionnaire. Data were checked, verified and analyzed manually where continuous variables were analyzed using unpaired t-test and categorical variables using the ANOVA test. Pearson’s correlation coefficient test was used to see the correlation of serum zinc and copper levels with disease duration. Results: Boys were predominant in both case and control groups, with the majority within the 10 to 16-year-age group. Enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) was the most common subtype followed by sJIA, Oligo JIA, Poly JIA (RF-) and unclassified subtypes. Disease duration was found less than 12 months in 30.4% of JIA patients. Serum analysis revealed a statistically significant reduction in mean zinc levels and increased copper levels in JIA patients compared to controls. This study observed a negative correlation between serum zinc levels and disease duration, whereas serum copper levels exhibited a positive correlation with disease duration. Inexpensive Procedure for Measurement of Ethanol: Application to Bioethanol Production Process

We have developed a spectrophotometric method for measurement of ethanol concentration in any unknown sample using a solvent tri-n-butyl phosphate [TBP, non-alcoholic solvent, density = 0.975 to 0.976, solubility in water = 0.028% (w/v)]. Solvent TBP separates ethanol from the non-hydrolyzed substrates that could interrupt the desired result by reacting with dichromate reagent. Oxidation of ethanol with dichromate reagent imparts blue green-colour to the solvent, which is easily detected by Spectrophotomer at 595 nm. Our established method showed similar results performed by relatively expensive Gas Chromatography (GC) method. In our present study we put forth a cheap alternate method for determining ethanol concentration in any aqueous solution.

Frequency of Uveitis among Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Bangladesh: A Retrospective Study

Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most frequently encountered pediatric rheumatologic disorder with an unknown etiology. At present there is no published data regarding the frequency of uveitis in patients with JIA in Bangladesh. This study aimed to observe the frequency of JIA-associated uveitis (JIAU) and distribution of uveitis among different sub-categories of JIA at the Pediatric Rheumatology division, both outdoor and indoor patients, Department of Pediatrics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Bangladesh. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 1784 JIA patients at the Pediatric Rheumatology division, BSMMU from July 2010 to March 2023. Results: Among the 1784 enrolled JIA patients, we observed that 0.73% of cases had uveitis. Here, 61.5% of JIAU cases were male. Most of the cases (92.3%) had bilateral uveitis and only 7.7% cases had unilateral uveitis. Among JIAU patients, the majority were Oligo JIA (53.8%), followed by ERA 30.8%, Poly JIA RF(−) 7.7% and Systemic JIA 7.7% cases respectively. This study also revealed that 15.4% of JIAU patients had ANA positivity and 23% had HLA B-27 positivity. Here we also found ocular complications associated with uveitis such as band keratopathy (23.1%), posterior synechiae (15.4%) and cataract (15.4%). Conclusions: In this study, we observed only 0.73% of patients of JIA had developed uveitis which is lower than the frequency observed in other European studies. This study also showed various ocular complications amongst JIA-associated uveitis patients which signifies the importance of adherence to periodic ophthalmological follow-up to prevent these ocular complications.

Optimization of Acetic Acid Production Rate by Thermotolerant <i>Acetobacter</i>spp.

Thermotolerant microorganisms were collected, identified and characterized under different physiological conditions from various rotten fruits in Bangladesh for vinegar production. Among the 15-isolates characterized previously, the strains F-1, F-3 and F-10 represented Staphylococcus, Bacillus and Acetobacter spp., respectively. After checking various parameters for growth, acetic acid production rate was optimized further. Among the 3-starins analyzed here, the strain F-10 gave maximum acetic acid (7.0 g/100 ml) at 37°C in 2% ethanol concentration. The strain F-10 is capable of producing high yield of acetic acid at relatively high temperature, which is an ideal condition for vinegar production, which may reduce the water cooling expenses as well as the risk of contamination.

Genome Annotation and Comparative Genomics of ORF Virus

ORF virus (ORFV), the etiological agent of contagious pustular dermatitis in small ruminants, belongs to members of the genus Parapoxvirus of the Poxviridae. The genome of the ORFV is dsDNA of 139,962 bp which has about 89% coding region, 63% GC content and codes 130 proteins. There are four unique genes within the genome revealed by homology search of them two posses’ strong regulatory region and transmembrane helices. One of the ORF-039 contains signal peptide indicating the possibilities to be secretory protein coding gene. Comparative genomic analysis reveals significant differences in Bovine Papular Stomatitis Virus (BPSV) strain BV-AR02 and ORFV strain OV-SA00, and these may account for differences in host range. Interspecies sequence variability is observed in all functional classes of genes but is the highest in putative virulence/host range genes. Notably, ORFV contains genes which are homologous of Vaccinia virus. Phylogenetic analysis reveals that although divergent, ORFV virus is distinct from other known mammalian cowpox virus. An improved understanding of Parapoxvirus (PPV) biology will permit the engineering of novel vaccine viruses and expression vectors with enhanced efficacy and greater versatility. The novel vaccine will have a significant role in the economy of a country through the control of disease in an economically important and small ruminant caused by ORFV.
