Mango is a widely cultivated and consumed fruit in Brazil and one of the most important alternatives to take advantage of the production excess is dehydration. Therefore, this work aims at establishing better operational conditions for ＂spray-drying＂ processes, in order to obtain the powder of mango pulp by means of a rotational central compounded planning, and also at carrying out the physicochemical characterization of both the integral mango pulp and the powder obtained from the operational conditions mentioned above. Both integral mango pulp and powder were analyzed as for the following physicochemical characteristics： humidity, pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids （~Brix）, vitamin c and color--through parameters L＊, a＊, b＊ and h0, chrome （c＊） and color difference （AEL＊a＊b＊）. The experimental planning used presented significant differences at 5% of probability, showing that the model was adjusted to the data in accordance to F test, thus being possible to determine the best process conditions. In addition, the average results of the physicochemical parameters pointed out that the pulp used was in accordance with the patterns established by the quality and identity patterns for mango pulp. Moreover, it showed that the powder obtained had good physicochemical quality.

The cucurbita maxima Duchesne is a vegetable crop plant cultivated and maintained by traditional Amazon communities, Brazil. The situation is worsened by the possibility of disappearance of local populations and genetic variability of this specie, taking into account the today changes promoted in family farming. The aim of this study was to estimate the current levels of genetic variability of local cultivars through the use of molecular markers (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism—AFLP). We chose to collect in two distinct micro regions in order to identify possible influences of geographic isolation and different levels of market requirements in the conservation of the genetic variability of the c. maxima. For the molecular analysis, bulk samples of fresh leaves of 15 plants/half-sibling family were collected in paper bags. There were 34 samples from the half-sib families. The analysis of the results half-sib obtained by methods of estimation of genetic variation by molecular markers shows that the forms of cultivation and management adopted by family farmers maintain the identities of the local/landraces (native cultivars) and, at the same time, the levels of diversity for the assurance of adaptability macro-environmental.

Use of the American Society of Anesthesiologists classification as an Additional Planning Tool for Renal cell carcinoma Assessment

Objective: To determine the prognostic value of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification and of the main clinical pathologic variables in renal cell carcinoma (Rcc) patients who underwent surgical treatment. Methods: In this international collaborative study, 376 Rcc patients who underwent partial nephrectomy (PN) or radical nephrectomy (RN) during the period 1989-2009 were assessed. The pathological data were reviewed by a single pathologist, and all of the surgically treated patients had been previously evaluated by a team of anesthesiologists and classified as ASA 1, ASA 2, or ASA 3. Results: In total, 318 patients were included in the study, with a mean followup of 48 months. Incidental tumors represented 47% of the cases, while 11.6% presented with metastases at diagnosis. Among the patients assessed, 38 (11.9%) were classified as ASA 1, 213 (67%) as ASA 2, and 67 (21.1%) as ASA 3. An association between the ASA classification and the main clinicopathological variables of Rcc was observed. The univariate analysis for overall survival (OS) revealed significant differences in the survival curves according to the ASA classification (p ce of metastasis at diagnosis, clinical stage III/IV, and incidental tumors remained as independent predictors of survival. Moreover, the multivariate analysis revealed a negative impact of the ASA classification on OS (p = 0.001). conclusions: The present study demonstrated a correlation between the ASA classification and the main prognostic factors of Rcc and its impact on survival rates. ASA 3 patients had more aggressive tumors, increased risk of perioperative complications, and worse outcomes compared with ASA1 or ASA 2. Thus, the ASA classification may be considered an additional tool for assessing and planning the treatment of Rcc patients.

cardiovascular Risk of community-Dwelling Elderly from a city in Northeastern Brazil: correlations with Vitamin D and Parathormone

We investigated the cardiovascular disease (cVD) risk of the elderly in a city in northeastern Brazil, and the correlation of this risk with vitamin D and PTH status. We studied 359 elderly, both genders, from Piauí-Teresina-Brazil. Variables investigated: body mass index, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. A subsample (n = 100) was investigated for biochemical analyses: PTH and 25(OH)-vitamin D levels;total, HDL and LDL-cholesterol;and fasting glucose. High blood pressure, abdominal obesity, sedentarism, high total cholesterol, high triacylglycerol levels, as well as low vitamin D levels, were, among the investigated variables, the most prevalent. Visceral adiposity and low vitamin D were found to be more prevalent in women than in men, whilst alcohol intake and smoking were more prevalent in men. The correlation between vitamin D, PTH and the investigated risk variables, under our study conditions, were not significant.

The PIRATA-SWE （Prediction and Research Moored Array in the Tropical Atlantic-Southwest Extension） was conceived in the early 2000s to gather observations necessary to improve the understanding of the variability of ocean-atmosphere interactions in the SAcZ （South Atlantic convergence Zone）, which are believed to influence South American climate. To properly monitor the SAcZ, the preliminary design for the PIRATA-SWE array considered the mooring of four buoys, with the southernmost one in the sub-tropics. In 2005, three buoys were deployed in the tropical region. Four years later, in 2009, efforts were started to assemble and deploy a Brazilian prototype of the TAO/PIRATA Atlas （autonomous temperature line acquisition system） buoy-the Atlas-B. Finally, in April 2013 the first Atlas-B, nicknamed ＂Guariroba＂, was moored for a testing period at 28.5° S, 44° W, which is the site originally planned for the fourth PIRATA-SWE buoy. In early November 2013, after being detected adrift, the buoy with the upper 700 m part of the mooring line was rescued in an emergency operation. In June 2014, the bottom part was successfully recovered. A new deployment is planned for late 2014. This paper describes part of the learning process of adapting and building the Atlas-B buoy and presents a brief discussion of the data collected during the pilot deployment.

The effects of cell therapy are based directly on the cell type used and the type of cardiac *** myocardial ischemia in the hibernating myocardium, bone marrow cells have functional benefits,however these results in transmural fibrosis are not evident. In these cases there is a benefit of implantation with skeletal myoblasts,for treating the underlying cause of disease,the loss of cell contractility.
