Background:Taeniasis and cysticercosis are two diseases caused by Taenia solium,a parasite transmitted between humans and pigs,leading to considerable economic loss and *** of the parasite is linked to environmental and behavioural factors such as inadequate sanitation and hygiene,poor pig management,and consumption of infected *** study used implementation research method to design a health education intervention strategy for reducing *** infections in Burkina Faso,a country endemic for the ***:Eighteen group discussions were conducted with 8-18 participants each in three *** addition,structured interviews were conducted among 4777 participants and 2244 pig owners,who were selected through cluster random sampling in 60 villages of three provinces of Burkina *** approaches assessed knowledge and practices related to *** information obtained was used to develop a community-adapted health education intervention strategy to control taeniasis and cysticercosis in Burkina ***:The group discussions revealed that participants had a poor quality of life due to the diseases as well as inadequate access to latrines,safe water,and healthcare *** addition,it was found that pig production was an important economic activity,especially for ***,financial and knowledge constraints were important limitations to improved pig management and latrine *** survey data also showed that open defecation and drinking unboiled water were common behaviours,enhanced by a lack of knowledge regarding the transmission of the parasite,perceived financial barriers to the implementation of control measures,lack of public sensitization,as well as a lack of self-efficacy towards control of the ***,the perceived financial benefits of controlling porcine cysticercosis could be emphasized by an education program that discourages open defecation and encourages drinking safe water

Background:Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease in the *** objective of the study was to determine the knowledge,attitude and practice of driver's license applicants and instructors in driving schools on epilepsy in Burkina ***:This cross-sectional study was carried out from January 7th to March 7th 2020 in 21 driving schools approved by the National Driver License Authority in the city of *** driver applicants and one instructor were selected in each driving school,resulting in a total of 315 driver applicants and 21 instructors in the ***:The mean age of participants was 29.91±7.63 *** of the driver applicants included in the study was once experienced a seizure *** respondents had heard of *** main source of epilepsy information was from family(42.5%).Two hundred and twenty-six respondents(673%)had witnessed an epileptic seizure.A majority of participants(55.9%)believed that persons with epilepsy be not permitted to drive a motor *** 44.0% of participants thought that people with epilepsy should be permitted to drive under certain *** hundred and four(30.9%)participants suggested that people with epilepsy be permitted to drive a light *** hundred and forty-one(42.0%)suggest to withdraw the driving license for lifetime if a driver had an epileptic seizure attack;while twenty-three(6.8%)participants recommended suspension of driver license for 12 ***:Efforts should be made to improve awareness and education among license applicants and instructors on the driving by people with epilepsy.

Background In developing countries,there is a lack of epilepsy knowledge among health *** objective of this study was to assess the knowledge,attitude and practice concerning epilepsy among nurses and midwives working in primary health care settings in *** We carried out a cross-sectional study in the health districts of Ouagadougou from August 1st to September 15th,*** nurses and midwives working in three health districts were included in this *** A total of 213 participants with a mean age of 39.5 years were included in the survey;79.81%of them had a general certification in secondary education and 62%had a professional experience of more than 10 *** 99%of the participants had not received training on epilepsy-related care during the last six *** addition,74.5%of the participants had a good knowledge on epilepsy and 65%had a good practice toward *** level of knowledge was associated with the workplace,years of training,and the professional *** level of knowledge about epilepsy was also associated with the level of education,while there was a significant link between professional status and nurses’level of practice in the management of *** Efforts must be made to provide continuing education for nurses in order to improve their knowledge on epilepsy.

Frequency, Risk Factors and Clinical Forms of Neuropathies in Diabetics in Hospitals in Burkina Faso

Introduction: Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common chronic complications of diabetes. Most of the studies on the subject in the sub region, particularly in Burkina Faso, dealt it with the study of the complications of diabetes, or one of its components. Our study was designed to study in particular in all its aspects, by searching for its peculiarities in our context, for improvement of its support. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study carried out in 150 diabetic patients aged at least 15 years followed in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yalgado Ouedraogo University Teaching Hospital. All patients included had agreed to participate in our survey after informed consent. We collected the data during the period from 2015 November to 2016 June. Each patient was evaluated by the DN4 questionnaire and clinically by a neurological examination. We determinated the frequency, the sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of diabetes neuropathy and its related factors. Results: The frequency of diabetic neuropathy was 80.7%. Peripheral neuropathies were seen in 81.8% of cases and autonomic neuropathies in 72.7% of cases. Autonomic neuropathy was dominated by the DAN (59.1%), and erectile dysfunction (44%). There was a high comorbidity with physical inactivity (66.9%), obesity (49.4%) and hypertension (38.8%). There were poorly controlled patients in 38.8%. A link was found between T2DM and neuropathy (p = 0.014). Painful diabetes was related to the quality of glycemic control (p = 0.007), and hypertension (p = 0.021). A link was also found between tobacco consumption (p < 0.001), male (p < 0.001), and urogenital autonomic neuropathy. Conclusion: Diabetic neuropathies are very common in our context and could be a haunting to the practitioner with the progression of diabetes and its corollary of degenerative complications. Analysis of the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Populations in Four Villages of the <i>Boucle du Mouhoun</i>Region (Burkina Faso) Regarding <i>Tænia solium</i>Life Cycle

T. solium cysticercosis is a tropical neglected disease with a high impact on public health and agriculture. To better understand the socio-economical drivers of this disease, this study was carried out with the goal to analyze knowledge, attitudes and practices of populations of the Boucle du Mouhoun region in connection with the life cycle of T. solium. We carried out a knowledge-attitudes-practices (KAP) survey with 320 people in four villages. More than half of the interviewees (60.3%) have already seen pig’s carcasses with the parasite cysts. Only two people know that the infestation is associated with the consumption of human faeces. In addition, 32.2% think that they can get sick by ingesting infested meat. Wells water is consumed by 62.8% of people and 75.1% of wells do not carry curbs. Moreover, 84.1% of concessions had latrines but 52.2% of the people practice open defecation. Pig meat is consumed by 80.6% of people and 30.9% have already consumed meat with cysts. This study shows that the transmission routes of porcine cysticercosis are not known and that the populations adopt attitudes and practices which allow the perpetuation of teniasis/cysticercosis in these villages.

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Rare Complication of Spinal Anesthesia

Introduction: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare complication of spinal anesthesia. The diagnosis is difficult when it occurs by isolated headache, following post spinal puncture headache (PSPH). We report a case of cerebral venous thrombosis complicating PSPH, following a spinal anesthesia. Observation: A 23-year-old man was admitted to the emergency room for PSPH appeared 6 hours after a spinal aesthesia for removal of osteosynthesis equipment from the right tibial plateau. The headache was fronto-occipital, relieved by lying down. Six days later, headache became permanent, not relieved by morphine, associated with vomiting. The neurological examination was normal. Brain magnetic resonance Magnetic venography showed superior sagittal sinus and right transverse sinus thrombosis. After administration of low molecular weight heparin at curative dose, and warfarin under INR control, the evolution was marked by a rapid regression of headaches on the same day. After a 1-year setback, the patient was asymptomatic. Conclusion: CVT is a rare complication of spinal anesthesia and potentially severe if diagnosed lately. Urgent brain imaging must be performed for any atypical headache or the onset of neurological disorders so as not to misunderstand cerebral vein thrombosis. Controlling the spine anesthesia would reduce the inadvertent perforation of the dura-mother that would lead to CVT complicating post spinal puncture headaches.

Background: Infectious Diseases are responsible for nearly 17 million annual deaths worldwide. Burkina Faso, like the majority of poor countries, remains vulnerable to infectious diseases. The objective of the present study was to analyze the profile of inpatients, including the mortality and causes of death, in the Infectious Diseases Department of SourôSanou teaching hospital (Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso). Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study based on medical records of all inpatients from 2011 to 2015. Results: We included 1169 patients. The gender ratio was 0.8. The age group 30 to 39 was more represented (30.2%) as well as housewives and farmers (73.7%). Over one-thirds of the patients (35.3%) were consulted within an average of 7 days. The most common reason for consultation was fever (65.1%). Around 62.0% of inpatients were infected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Digestive diseases ranked first (21.8%) followed by nervous system disorders (19.4%) and tuberculosis (17.8%). Overall morbidity rate was 31.3%. About 42% were admitted to the emergency ward while 83.3% already arrived with poor health condition. And 82.1% of deaths occurred on pathological grounds of which 66.7% were related to HIV. Main causes of death included nervous system diseases (28.6%), tuberculosis (21.9%) and gastrointestinal diseases (18.3%). Conclusion: Infectious diseases remain a major public health issue. Further efforts are needed to improve their management in Burkina Faso.

Intestinal Parasitosis in Children among Internally Displaced Persons in the Hauts-Bassins Region of Burkina Faso

Introduction: The setting up of camps for internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso as a result of terrorism creates favorable conditions for the emergence of digestive parasitosis in these displaced populations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of digestive parasitosis in children of this population in the Hauts-Bassins region. Material and methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study from November to December 2020, in which stool samples were collected from internally displaced children from the Sinfra reception site in Banzon and from Poya in Karangasso Vigué. The stool samples were stored at room temperature, protected from dust and insects, in a cooler and then sent to the laboratory of the CHUSS in Bobo-Dioulasso where the parasitological analyses were performed. Results: The mean age was 5.8 ± 2.4 years. The most represented age group was 5 to 10 years (75.31%). The sex ratio is 1.61. The overall prevalence of intestinal parasite infection was 53.09%. The prevalence was statistically higher among those who consumed well water than those consuming tap water (p = 0.01). Monoparasitism by protozoa and helminths represented 74.42% and 6.68% respectively. The polyparasitism rate was 9.31%. The species identified in monoparasite patients were protozoa with Entamoeba coli (37.21%), Giardia lamblia (25.58%), Endolimax nanus (6.98%) and Entamoeba histolytica/dispar (4.65%). Biparasitism was identified with combinations, such as E. coli + E. histolytica/dispar (11.63%). Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of digestive parasitosis among IDPs in the Sinfra and Poya reception site. Educational sessions on hand washing before meals, use of drinking water, etc. should emphasize preventive measures in these IDP camps.

Diastasis of the symphysis pubis is a rare postpartum complication. We report two cases of symphysis diastasis after dystocic delivery, in two patients who presented in the postpartum period with functional impotence, pubalgia and acute urine retention. A frontal radiograph of the pelvis confirmed the diagnosis, showing a symphyseal separation of 12 mm and 18 mm. In our case, management was mainly medical, with a favorable clinical outcome.

Blood Pressure Profile and Glycemic Control of Type 2 Diabetics and Hypertensives at the Yalgado Ouedraogo University Hospital: A Review of 116 Cases

Objective: The association hypertension and diabetes is important. The two pathologies may influence each other. The aim was to study the correlation between glycemic control and blood pressure control and to determine the factors associated with blood pressure control. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical focus over 7 months. Patients were recruited as outpatients and all underwent ambulatory blood pressure measure, glycated hemoglobin and creatinine measurements, and assessment of compliance with treatment. Results: During this period 116 patients were collected. The predominance was female 69%. The mean age of the patients was 62 ± 7 years with a peak between 60 and 70 years. The average age of hypertension was 12 years and that of diabetes 6 1/2 years. The most frequently associated cardiovascular risk factor was a sedentary lifestyle (71.5%) after age. 57.8% of patients were not controlled at the office, with a predominance of systolic hypertension (58.2%). 61.6% of patients were controlled by ambulatory blood pressure measure, a rate of 47.8% of white coat hypertension. Glycemic control was observed in 42.2% of cases and 87% of patients had good renal function (glomerular filter rate ≥ 60 ml/mn). Therapeutic compliance was good in 53.4% of cases and dual therapy was the most used therapeutic modality 44.8% (52 patients) followed by triple therapy. The factors associated with poor blood pressure control were glycemic imbalance, non-compliance and monotherapy. Dual therapy had a protective effect. Conclusion: The association of hypertension and type 2 diabetes is frequent. The risk of occurrence increases with age. Ambulatory blood pressure measure is the best method to assess blood pressure control. Optimization of blood pressure control should also include optimization of glycemic control.
