Graphene-wrapped Ag3PO4/LaCO3OH heterostructures for water purification under visible light

We demonstrated a unique synthesis approach of graphene（GR）-wrapped AgPO/LaCOOH（APO/LCO）heterostructures by an in-situ wet chemical method. FESEM analysis reveals the formation of rhombic dodecahedrons of APO decorated with LCO and later wrapped with GR flakes. Optical studies shows two absorption edges corresponding to the band gap energies of APO（2.41 ev） and LCO（4.1 ev）. Considering the absorption edge of the heterostructures in the visible region, the photocatalytic activities of photocatalysts containing different APO/LCO mass ratios were evaluated by the degradation of MB. GR-decorated composite with 20% LCO（APO/LCO20/GR） exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity for MB degradation, with a rate constant, k of 0.541 min. The photocatalytic activity of APO/LCO20/GR more greatly enhanced than those of the individual constituents（APO, LCO, APO/LCO20）. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the heterostructure can be attributed to the co-catalytic effect of LCO as well as intriguing physicochemical properties of GR. To understand the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the heterostructures the photocatalytic reaction mechanism is proposed in detail. The recyclability of the APO/LCO/GR composite photocatalyst is further evaluated by reusing the catalyst in replicate photocatalytic experiments which shows consistent photocatalytic activity thereby confirms the stability and reusability of heterostructure photocatalyst.

Comparative Study of Coumarin-120 (C-120) and Stilbine-3 (STB-3) Laser Dyes Doped in Sol-Gel Glasses

In 1967 the first work in solid state dye laser was performed by doping rhodamine dyes in Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) materials. Since then some materials like various types of polymers, co-polymers, poly composite glasses have been used as host matrices for doping different laser dyes. Polymers suffer from limited mechanical and thermal stability. Hence glasses can be the alternative hosts. However, because of high processing temperature leading to permanent destruction of dye molecules, the conventional glass preparation technique is not suitable for the introduction of organic laser dyes. This difficulty can be overcome by introducing the laser dye molecules in sol-gel glass which is prepared at low temperature. Recent work with sol-gel glasses shows that these glasses may prove to be better materials compared to polymeric materials because glasses being hard, best optically transparency in Near Uv-Uv and visible region and show better photostability. In this research work we reported, comparative study of the photophysical properties of Coumarin-120 (C-120) belonging to 7-aminocoumarin family having two hydrogen atoms attached to the N atom at the 7-position, with Stilbene-3 (STB-3) in three types of HCl catalyzed SiO2 sol-gel matrices prepared by Method I, Method II and Method III respectively.

Design, Formulation and Evaluation of Transdermal Drug Delivery System of Budesonide

Budesonide is a highly potent synthetic, nonhalogenated corticosteroid. The mechanism of action of corticosteroids in allergic rhinitis remains unknown, but may involve reductions in number of various mediator cells such as basophils, eosinophils, T-helper cells, mast cells, and neutrophils. In the nasal mucosa, nasal reactivity to allergens, and release of inflammatory mediators and proteolytic enzymes. Budesonide is very effective and quikly acting as it is rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration, but has poor systemic availability (about 10%) due to extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver, mainly by the cytochrome P450 isoenzyme CYP3A4.. The major metabolites, 6-β- hydroxybudesonide and 16-α-hydroxyprednisolone have less than 1% of the glucocorticoid activity of unchanged drug with a terminal half-life of about 2 - 4 hours. Polymeric films containing Eudragit RL 100: Eudragit RS: drug (7:3:1, 7: 2:1) and Ethyl cellulose: PvP: drug (7:3:1, 7:2:1) were selected for transdermal administration based on evaluation studies. These polymeric films were prepared by mercury substrate method employing PEG-400 as plasticizer. Two different penetration enhancers Urea and Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) were employed in the study. The patches in each group were uniform in drug content, thickness. In vitro drug permeation, moisture absorption and WvTR studies were carried out on these test patches. It was found that at all humidity condition the absorption increases which were linear to the moisture absorbed. In PvA and EUDRAGIT RL 100 patches the water vapor transmission rate was found to be higher at 75% RH, RT conditions. Therefore at both % RH, RT condition the PvA and EUDRAGIT RL 100 patches provides the best resistance to water vapor. Therefore, when applied to animals (in further studies) these patches may provide more occlusion to water vapor loss from skin thus making atmosphere beneath the skin more humid that aid in drug permeation.
