Role of cystatin C and renal resistive index in assessment of renal function in patients with liver cirrhosis

AIM:To evaluate the clinical significance of cystatin C and renal resistive index for the determination of renal function in patients with liver ***:We conducted a study of 63 patients with liver cirrhosis.A control group comprised of 30 age and gender-matched healthy *** cystatin C was determined in all study subjects and renal Doppler ultrasonography was *** glomerular filtration rate from serum creatinine(GFRCr)and cystatin C(GFRCys)was ***:We confirmed significant differences in val-ues of cystatin C between patients with different stages of liver cirrhosis according to Child-Pugh(P=0.01),and a significant correlation with model of end stage liver disease(MELD)score(rs=0.527,P<0.001).More patients with decreased glomerular filtration rate were identified based on GFRCys than on GFRCr(P<0.001).Significantly higher renal resistive index was noted in Child-Pugh C than in A(P<0.001)and B stage(P=0.001).Also,a significant correlation between renal resistive index and MELD score was observed(rs=0.607,P<0.001).Renal resistive index correlated significantly with cystatin C(rs=0.283,P=0.028)and showed a negative correlation with GFRCys(rs=-0.31,P=0.016).CONCLUSION:Cystatin C may be a more reliable marker for assessment of liver ***,cystatin C and renal resistive index represent sensitive indicators of renal dysfunction in patients with liver cirrhosis.

In this work,monoclinic Bi_(2)O_(3) was applied for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,as a catalyst in the process of dye degradation by a non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona *** research focused on the interaction of the plasma-generated species and the catalyst,as well as the role of the catalyst in the degradation *** decomposition of the anthraquinone reactive dye Reactive Blue 19(RB 19) was performed in a selfmade reactor ***_(2)O_(3) was prepared by electrodeposition followed by thermal treatment,and characterized by x-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive xray *** was observed that the catalyst promoted decomposition of plasma-generated H_(2)O_(2) into ·OH radicals,the principal dye-degrading reagent,which further attacked the dye *** catalyst improved the decolorization rate by 2.5 times,the energy yield by 93.4%and total organic carbon removal by 7.1%.Excitation of the catalyst mostly occurred through strikes by plasma-generated reactive ions and radical species from the air,accelerated by the electric field,as well as by fast electrons with an energy of up to 15 eV generated by the streamers reaching the liquid *** strikes transferred the energy to the catalyst and created the electrons and holes,which further reacted with H_(2)O_(2) and water,producing ·OH *** was indentified as the primary role of the catalyst in this *** reactions followed pseudo first-order *** of H_(2)O_(2) and the dye degradation rate increased with increase in the input *** optimal catalyst dose was 500 mg·dm^(-3).The decolorization rate was a little lower in river water compared with that in deionized water due to the side reactions of ·OH radicals with organic matter and inorganic ions dissolved in the river water.

Despite advances in cancer treatment,pancreatic cancer(PC)remains a disease with high mortality rates and poor survival *** B7 homolog 3(B7-H3)checkpoint molecule is overexpressed among many malignant tumors,including PC,with low or absent expression in healthy *** modulating various immunological and nonimmunological molecular mechanisms,B7-H3 may influence the progression of ***,the impact of B7-H3 on the survival of patients with PC remains a subject of ***,most available scientific data recognize this molecule as a suppressive factor to antitumor immunity in ***,it has been demonstrated that B7-H3 stimulates the migration,invasion,and metastasis of PC cells,and enhances resistance to *** preclinical models of PC,B7-H3-targeting monoclonal antibodies have exerted profound antitumor effects by increasing natural killer cell-mediated antibodydependent cellular cytotoxicity and delivering radioisotopes and cytotoxic drugs to the tumor ***,PC treatment with B7-H3-targeting antibody-drug conjugates and chimeric antigen receptor T cells is being tested in clinical *** review provides a comprehensive analysis of all PC-related studies in the context of B7-H3 and points to deficiencies in the current data that should be overcome by future research.

Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%). The exciton dispersion is examined in the case of four selected prototypical molecular solids: pentacene, tetracene, picene, and chrysene. The model parameters are determined by fitting to experimental data obtained by inelastic electron scattering. Within the picture that relies on Frenkel-type excitons we obtain that theoretical dispersion curves along different directions in the Brillouin zone are in good agreement with the experimental data, suggesting that the influence of charge-transfer excitons on exciton dispersion of the analyzed organic solids is not as large as proposed. In reciprocal space directions where Davydov splitting is observed we employ the upgraded version of Hamiltonian used in Materials 11, 2219 (2018).

Red beds cover approximately 9.5%of China,and are home to approximately 144 million *** total,83%of these lands are distributed in humid regions making it an important part of research on red bed soil erosion in China in these *** paper presents the main types of land degradation in red bed landscapes and the status of current soil erosion in a typical red bed basin,the Nanxiong Basin located in the north of Guangdong Province,China,and establishes the connection between management strategies and regional economic development in humid red bed regions of *** soil erosive modulus was calculated in the Nanxiong Basin by using RUSLE(The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation).The results of overlapping analyses demonstrated that appropriate measures,such as the Return Farmland to Forests initiative,should be taken at the junction of central red bed areas and mountainous areas in order to mitigate current soil *** examples are presented to demonstrate this:the tourism development in ***,a noted scenic mountainous area near Nanxiong Basin,and the land degradation mitigation in the Nanxiong *** examples promote local economic growth while simultaneously protecting the environment.A‘stakeholder'strategy is pursued at ***,which can help residents to understand their positive effects on the environment as well as increase their *** second example,in Nanxiong City,showcases how local farmers became stakeholders by implementing contract responsibility and self-support systems for economic forests and terraced land in the 1980s.
