Land degradation and management of red beds in China:Two case studies

Red beds cover approximately 9.5%of China,and are home to approximately 144 million *** total,83%of these lands are distributed in humid regions making it an important part of research on red bed soil erosion in China in these *** paper presents the main types of land degradation in red bed landscapes and the status of current soil erosion in a typical red bed basin,the Nanxiong Basin located in the north of Guangdong Province,China,and establishes the connection between management strategies and regional economic development in humid red bed regions of *** soil erosive modulus was calculated in the Nanxiong Basin by using RUSLE(The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation).The results of overlapping analyses demonstrated that appropriate measures,such as the Return Farmland to Forests initiative,should be taken at the junction of central red bed areas and mountainous areas in order to mitigate current soil *** examples are presented to demonstrate this:the tourism development in ***,a noted scenic mountainous area near Nanxiong Basin,and the land degradation mitigation in the Nanxiong *** examples promote local economic growth while simultaneously protecting the environment.A‘stakeholder'strategy is pursued at ***,which can help residents to understand their positive effects on the environment as well as increase their *** second example,in Nanxiong City,showcases how local farmers became stakeholders by implementing contract responsibility and self-support systems for economic forests and terraced land in the 1980s.

Imagine if it were possible to create 3D objects in the palm of your hand within seconds using only a single photonic *** 3D printing has revolutionized the way we create in nearly every aspect of modern society,current 3D printers rely on large and complex mechanical systems to enable layer-by-layer addition of *** limits print speed,resolution,portability,form factor,and material *** there have been recent efforts in developing novel photocuring-based 3D printers that utilize light to transform matter from liquid resins to solid objects using advanced methods,they remain reliant on bulky and complex mechanical *** address these limitations,we combine the fields of silicon photonics and photochemistry to propose the first chip-based 3D *** proposed system consists of only a single millimeter-scale photonic chip without any moving parts that emits reconfigurable visible-light holograms up into a simple stationary resin well to enable non-mechanical 3D ***,we experimentally demonstrate a stereolithography-inspired proof-of-concept version of the chip-based 3D printer using a visible-light beam-steering integrated optical phased array and visible-light-curable resin,showing 3D printing using a chip-based system for the first *** work demonstrates the first steps towards a highlycompact,portable,and low-cost solution for the next generation of 3D printers.

In this work,monoclinic Bi_(2)O_(3) was applied for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,as a catalyst in the process of dye degradation by a non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona *** research focused on the interaction of the plasma-generated species and the catalyst,as well as the role of the catalyst in the degradation *** decomposition of the anthraquinone reactive dye Reactive Blue 19(RB 19) was performed in a selfmade reactor ***_(2)O_(3) was prepared by electrodeposition followed by thermal treatment,and characterized by x-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive xray *** was observed that the catalyst promoted decomposition of plasma-generated H_(2)O_(2) into ·OH radicals,the principal dye-degrading reagent,which further attacked the dye *** catalyst improved the decolorization rate by 2.5 times,the energy yield by 93.4%and total organic carbon removal by 7.1%.Excitation of the catalyst mostly occurred through strikes by plasma-generated reactive ions and radical species from the air,accelerated by the electric field,as well as by fast electrons with an energy of up to 15 eV generated by the streamers reaching the liquid *** strikes transferred the energy to the catalyst and created the electrons and holes,which further reacted with H_(2)O_(2) and water,producing ·OH *** was indentified as the primary role of the catalyst in this *** reactions followed pseudo first-order *** of H_(2)O_(2) and the dye degradation rate increased with increase in the input *** optimal catalyst dose was 500 mg·dm^(-3).The decolorization rate was a little lower in river water compared with that in deionized water due to the side reactions of ·OH radicals with organic matter and inorganic ions dissolved in the river water.

Despite advances in cancer treatment,pancreatic cancer(PC)remains a disease with high mortality rates and poor survival *** B7 homolog 3(B7-H3)checkpoint molecule is overexpressed among many malignant tumors,including PC,with low or absent expression in healthy *** modulating various immunological and nonimmunological molecular mechanisms,B7-H3 may influence the progression of ***,the impact of B7-H3 on the survival of patients with PC remains a subject of ***,most available scientific data recognize this molecule as a suppressive factor to antitumor immunity in ***,it has been demonstrated that B7-H3 stimulates the migration,invasion,and metastasis of PC cells,and enhances resistance to *** preclinical models of PC,B7-H3-targeting monoclonal antibodies have exerted profound antitumor effects by increasing natural killer cell-mediated antibodydependent cellular cytotoxicity and delivering radioisotopes and cytotoxic drugs to the tumor ***,PC treatment with B7-H3-targeting antibody-drug conjugates and chimeric antigen receptor T cells is being tested in clinical *** review provides a comprehensive analysis of all PC-related studies in the context of B7-H3 and points to deficiencies in the current data that should be overcome by future research.

Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%). A combined inorganic and organic geochemical study was carried out on marls and mudstones collected from the Lower Miocene Lopare Basin,Bosnia and Herzegovina.A total of 46 samples collected from two boreholes,Pot 1(depth of 193 m)and Pot 3(depth of 344 m),showed that element abundances like boron(B),lithium(Li),strontium(Sr),uranium(U),chromium(Cr),nickel(Ni),magnesium(Mg),sodium(Na)and calcium(Ca)are much higher than average than in the upper continental crust(UCC).Chemical composition indicates at least two sources:(i)Mesozoic ophiolites occurring in the north of the investigated area,and(ii)dacito-andesitic pyroclastics(Mesozoic to Cenozoic).Lopare Basin sedimentation was influenced by strong evaporation resulting in a partly hypersaline lake,which formed during a warm climatic period,probably during the Miocene Climatic Optimum.A brief episode of humid climate conditions resulted in the basin fillingup and deposition of felsic sediments enriched in thorium(Th).Organic geochemistry shows that the majority of studied sediments contains predominantly immature to marginally mature algal organic matter(OM).The biomarker patterns are generally in agreement with the geological history of the Lopare Basin and inorganic and mineralogical ***,the molecular distribution of n-alkanes as reliable climatic andδ-MTTC as paleosalinity indicators do not support this conclusion.

The relationship between design and science in architecture continually receives attention from scholars,but to our knowledge,no substantial and systematic literature reviews have been undertaken to generate insights into how the relationship between the two has developed in recent *** most of the related debate remains theoretical,this paper presents evidence acquired through content analysis of selected 782 peer-reviewed papers published in the last four decades,a period in which design requirements continue to grow in complexity and research efforts increasingly concentrate on design *** response,this study departs from the two keywords,architectural science and building science,and develops search strings to support examination of the relationship between science and architectural design since the 1980s,when research that addresses the building environment started to *** analysis employs tools based on machine learning algorithms for text analytics in combination with traditional content analysis *** presented research method is fully replicable and stands as one of the contributions of this *** findings capture the expansion of the research context concerned with the built environment through a careful selection of defining terms,and generate an informed discussion on how the role of science in the architectural design process has changed.

In recent years,epidemiological and genetic studies have shown an association between autoimmune diseases and *** question arises whether patients with schizophrenia are more likely to develop multiple sclerosis(MS)later in *** is well known that the immune system plays an important role in the etiopathogenesis of both *** disturbances may be similar or very different in terms of different types of immune responses,disturbed myelination,and/or immunogenetic predispositions.A psychotic symptom may be a consequence of the MS diagnosis itself or a separate *** this review article,we discussed the timing of onset of psychotic symptoms and MS and whether the use of corticosteroids as therapy for acute relapses in MS is unfairly neglected in patients with psychiatric *** addition,we discussed that the anti-inflammatory potential of antipsychotics could be useful and should be considered,especially in the treatment of psychosis that coexists with *** disorders could precipitate psychotic symptoms,and in this context,autoimmune psychosis must be considered as a persistent symptomatology that requires continuous and specific treatment.
