Diversity of Filamentous Fungi of Area from Brazilian Caatinga and High-Level Tannase Production Using Mango (<i>Mangifera indica</i>L.) and Surinam Cherry (<i>Eugenia uniflora</i>L.) Leaves under SSF

Tannase is a biotechnologically important enzyme that can be produced during fungal fermentation of organic matter. The Caatinga is an exclusive Brazilian ecosystem that has been largely unexplored by science, particularly its filamentous fungal diversity. This study evaluated the diversity of filamentous fungi in the Caatinga soils of Pernambuco, Brazil, and their potential for tannase production by solid-state fermentation (SSF) of mango (Mangifera indica L.) and Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora L.) leaves. A total of 4711 isolates were obtained, 2090 during the rainy seasonand 2621 during the dry season. The isolates belonged to 18 genera and 66 species, with Aspergillus and Penicillium having the highest species richness. The dry season had a higher diversity index. Aspergillus was the dominant genus, and A. flavus, A. sclerotiorum, and A. ochraceus the most abundant species. A representative of each species was tested for tannase production using dried mango and Surinam cherry leaves as substrates;the leaves contained 14.28 and 7.0 g/L tannin, respectively. Most fungal species produced tannase, but the highest yields were obtained when mango leaves were used as substrate for Penicillium restrictum (accession URM 6044), Aspergillus flavofurcatus (URM 6142), and A. stromatoides (URM 6609), which produced 104.16, 87.51, and 81.83 U/mL tannase, respectively. These yields exceeded previously published reports. Filamentous fungi from Caatinga soils have great potential for producing tannase by SSF, and low-cost mango leaves make excellent substrate.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and epidemiological projections predict growing cancer mortality rates in the next *** has a close relationship with the immune system and,although Th17 cells are known to play roles in the immune response against microorganisms and in autoimmunity,studies have emphasized their roles in cancer *** Th17 immune response profile is involved in several types of cancer including urogenital,respiratory,gastrointestinal,and skin *** type of immune response exerts pro and antitumor functions through several mechanisms,depending on the context of each tumor,including the protumor angiogenesis and exhaustion of T cells and the antitumor recruitment of T cells and neutrophils to the tumor *** other factors,the paradoxical behavior of Th17 cells in this setting has been attributed to its plasticity potential,which makes possible their conversion into other types of T cells such as Th17/Treg and Th17/Th1 ***(IL)-17 stands out among Th17-related cytokines since it modulates pathways and interacts with other cell profiles in the tumor microenvironment,which allow Th17 cells to prevail in ***,the IL-17 is able to mediate pro and antitumor processes that influence the development and progression of various cancers,being associated with variable clinical *** understanding of the relationship between the Th17 immune response and cancer as well as the singularities of carcinogenic processes in each type of tumor is crucial for the identification of new therapeutic targets.

Culture Circle as a Teaching Approach in the Education of Teenager Health Multipliers on Leprosy Awareness

Objective: The study aims to evaluate the use of a teaching method proposed by Paulo freire, Culture Circles, in the education of teenagers multipliers on leprosy awareness. Methods: It is an action-research study with a qualitative approach developed in a public school in Pernambuco, Brazil. Five Culture Circles were conducted involving the participation of 26 teenagers. The followings were used as data collection tools: observation, field notes, photography and filming. Results: The educational intervention on health addressed the following topics: 1) Definition and transmission of leprosy;2) Characteristics and diagnosis of leprosy;3) Treatment of leprosy;4) Aesthetics, prejudice and mental health related to leprosy;and 5) Planning of educational activities for teenagers as health multipliers on leprosy awareness. The educational action on health provided this age group to perceive themselves, act as political subjects in the development of Culture Circles, and act as protagonists in the dissemination of knowledge on leprosy. Conclusions: This study highlights that the application of active methodologies, such as Culture Circles, is able to encourage the engagement of young people in community empowerment and bring together health professionals and the school community in an intersectoral work in order to develop action strategies involving the promotion of health in the context of neglected diseases such as leprosy.

Determination of Zn and Mg in Milk Powder Samples Using Conventional and Alternative Sample Preparations and FAAS

Conventional procedures for sample preparation, such as calcination and acid digestion, were compared with an alternative procedure: alkaline solubilization and ultrasound-assisted extraction. The procedures were evaluated by the application of the mentioned sample preparation and subsequent determination of Mg and Zn in milk powder samples by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The results indicated that ultrasound-assisted extraction was not suitable for Zn and Mg extraction, whereas alkaline solubilization using TMAH was efficient only for determination of Mg.

Helicobacter pylori(***)is a gram-negative,flagellated and spiral-shaped bacterial pathogen that impacts approximately 46%among pregnant women globally and has been associated with various maternal-fetal *** deficiency anemia,fetal growth restriction,cardiovascular diseases,and insufficient nutrient absorption can be observed in pregnant women,as well as miscarriages and pregnancy-specific hypertensive disease,such as ***,the evidence supports the influence of *** infection on fetal implantation/placentation failure,and positive strains of the cytotoxin-associated gene A of *** were reported as the most prevalent in these ***,current knowledge indicates a relationship between this infection and the occurrence of hyperemesis gravidarum,characterized by frequent nausea and *** the diagnosis of this bacterial infection,non-invasive approaches such as stool antigen test,urea breath test,and serological tests are more accepted during pregnancy,as they are easy to carry out and ***,the bacteria eradication therapy should consider the risks and benefits for the pregnant woman and her child,with pharmacological intervention depending on the clinical presentation.
