The design of crosslinking domains is a vital factor to create functional hydrogels with controlled physical,mechanical,and adhesive *** paper demonstrates versatile synthetic systems of micelle-crosslinked hydrogels with highly stretchable,self-healing,and selectively adhesive *** this,methacrylate-bearing random copolymer micelles are designed as physical and covalent crosslink domains via the self-assembly of amphiphilic random copolymers carrying hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG),hydrophobic butyl or dodecyl groups,and methacrylate-terminal PEG in *** size,aggregation number,and pendant methacrylate number of the micelles are controlled by the composition and degree of *** are efficiently obtained from the free radical polymerization of hydrophilic monomers such as PEG acrylate and acrylamide in the presence of the micelle crosslinkers in *** to the dynamic yet selective chain exchange properties of the micelle domains,the hydrogels are highly stretchable up to over 1000%and show self-healing and selectively adhesive *** self-healing of hydrogels is promoted upon heating due to the fast chain exchange of the micelle domains,whereas hydrogels consisting of micelles with different alkyl groups are never adhesive because of their self-sorting properties.

Photonic integrated circuits are emerging as a promising platform for accelerating matrix multiplications in deep learning, leveraging the inherent parallel nature of light. Although various schemes have been proposed and demonstrated to realize such photonic matrix accelerators, the in situ training of artificial neural networks using photonic accelerators remains challenging due to the difficulty of direct on-chip backpropagation on a photonic chip. In this work, we propose a silicon microring resonator(MRR) optical crossbar array with a symmetric structure that allows for simple on-chip backpropagation, potentially enabling the acceleration of both the inference and training phases of deep learning. We demonstrate a 4 × 4 circuit on a Si-on-insulator platform and use it to perform inference tasks of a simple neural network for classifying iris flowers, achieving a classification accuracy of 93.3%. Subsequently, we train the neural network using simulated on-chip backpropagation and achieve an accuracy of 91.1% in the same inference task after training. Furthermore, we simulate a convolutional neural network for handwritten digit recognition, using a 9 × 9 MRR crossbar array to perform the convolution operations. This work contributes to the realization of compact and energy-efficient photonic accelerators for deep learning.

In chloroplasts and mitochondria of most land plants, RNA editing modifies specific nucleotides. The individual nucleotides are identified in the complex RNA molecule population of either organelle by their sequence context. The biochemical reaction is in effect a C-to-U deamination in flowering plants, in addition a U-to-C amination reaction occurs in ferns and hornworts.

SH-wavefield simulation for a laterally heterogeneous whole-Earth model using the pseudospectral method

We present a scheme to simulate SH-wave propagation in a whole-Earth model with arbitrary lateral heterogeneities employing the Fourier pseudospectral method. Wave equations are defined in two-dimensional cylindrical coordinates and the model is taken through a great circle of the Earth. Spatial derivatives in the wave equations are calculated in the wavenumber domain by multiplication, and the transformation between spatial and wavenumber domains is performed via fast Fourier transformation. Because of the high accuracy and high speed of the Fourier pseudospectral method, the scheme enables us to calculate a short-wavelength global SH-wavefield with accurate waveforms and arrival times for models with heterogeneities that can be approximated as azimuthally symmetric. Comparing with two-dimensional simulation methods based on an axisymmetric model, implementing the seismic source in the present scheme is more convenient. We calculated the global SH-wavefield for the preliminary reference Earth model to identify the generation, reflection and refraction of various seismic phases propagating in the Earth. Applications to a heterogeneous global model with low-velocity perturbation above the core-mantle boundary were conducted to analyze the effect of lateral heterogeneity on global SH-wave propagation.

Genetic analysis of group composition and relatedness in white-headed langurs

We collected fecal samples of white-headed langurs from 3 of the 4 remaining habitat fragments(Fa,Fb and CZ)located in southwestern Guangxi,China in Nov 2005,and used 5 microsatellite loci and the SRY gene to assess the relatedness between 46 langurs within and between *** observed 2 forms of group structure:one-male/multi-female groups(OMGs)and all-male groups(AMGs).One AMG in Fa was composed of 2 generations,included a father,2 sons and 1 unrelated male,and all OMGs in all 3 habitats included 1 resident male,several adult females and *** the 21 identified father-offspring cases,the resident male fathered 20(95%)and the non-resident male sired 1(5%),suggesting that adult males had overwhelming priority of access to females as the resident male in an OMG,while the non-resident male may also have the opportunity to adopt surreptitious mating strategies.

A scheme to treat the singularity in global seismic wavefield simulation using pseudospectral method with staggered grids

The pseudospectral method has been applied to the simulation of seismic wave propagation in 2-D global Earth model. When a whole Earth model is considered, the center of the Earth is included in the model and then singularity arises at the center of the Earth where r=0 since the 1/r term appears in the wave equations. In this paper, we extended the global seismic wavefield simulation algorithm for regular grid mesh to staggered grid configuration and developed a scheme to solve the numerical problems associated with the above singularity for a 2-D global Earth model defined on staggered grid using pseudospectral method. This scheme uses a coordinate transformation at the center of the model, in which the field variables at the center are calculated in Cartesian coordinates from the values on the grids around the center. It allows wave propagation through the center and hence the wavefield at the center can be stably calculated. Validity and accuracy of the scheme was tested by compared with the discrete wavenumber method. This scheme could also be suitable for other numerical methods or models parameterized in cylindrical or spherical coordinates when singularity arises at the center of the model.

Recently, air quality has significantly improved in developed country, but that issue is of concern in emerging megacity in developing *** this study, aerosols and their precursor gas were collected by NILU filter pack at two distinct urban sites during the winter and summer in Osaka, Japan and dry and rainy seasons in Ho Chi Minh City(HCMC),*** aims are to investigate the contribution of water-soluble inorganic ions(WSIIs) to PM2.5, thermodynamic characterization and possible formation pathway of secondary inorganic aerosol(SIA).The PM2.5 concentration in Osaka(15.8 μg/m^3) is lower than that in HCMC(23.0 μg/m^3), but the concentration of WSIIs in Osaka(9.0 μg/m^3) is two times higher than that in HCMC(4.1 μg/m^3).Moreover, SIA including NH4^+, NO3^-and SO4^2-are major components in WSIIs accounting for 90% and 76%(in molar) in Osaka and HCMC,*** models were used to understand the thermodynamic characterization of urban ***, statistical analysis results indicate that very good agreement(R2> 0.8) was found for all species, except for nitrate aerosol in *** found that when the crustal species present at high amount, those compositions should be included in model calculation(*** the HCMC situation).Finally, we analyzed the characteristics of NH4^+– NO3^-– SO4^2-system.A possible pathway to produce fine nitrate aerosol in Osaka is via the homogeneous reaction between NH3 and HNO3, while nonvolatile nitrate aerosols can be formed by the heterogeneous reactions in HCMC.

Lattice Boltzmann Flow Simulation in a Combined Nanochannel

The widely used micro-flow wall-boundary conditions for lattice Boltzmann method(LBM)are evaluated in a force driven combined nanochannel *** flow field consists of a two-dimensional nanochannel(mother channel)of an infinite length having flat plates of a finite length *** flat plate is set above the bottom wall of the nanochannel with a narrow *** flow,thus,develops through this narrow gap(narrower channel)and the other side of the plate(wide gap).The Knudsen number based on the mother channel height is Kn=0.14 whereas the characteristic Knudsen number in the narrower channel is *** obtain the reference data,the molecular dynamics(MD)simulation is performed with a fully diffusive wall *** LBMs are based on the lattice BGK model and with the bounce-back/specular reflection(BSBC)and the diffuse scattering(DSBC)wall boundary *** relaxation time is modified to include sensitivity to *** DSBC shows generally satisfactory results in the test flow cases including fully developed force driven Poiseuille flows,where the BSBC performs worse at Kn>0.5 with a fixed bridge coefficient of b=*** results in its overprediction of the flow rate in the narrower channel region since the characteristic Knudsen number there is *** MD simulation suggests that the flow develops gradually through the narrower channel region though all the LBM predictions show almost instant flow *** fact suggests that the relaxation time model needs to have more sensitivity to the locally defined *** discussions of the BSBC with a different set of models suggest that the regularization process is required for predicting complex nanoscale flows.
