Arctic sea-ice extent reaches its minimum each year in September. On 11 September 2023 the minimum was 4.969 million square kilometers(***^(2)). This was not a record low, which occurred in 2012, when the minimum was 4.175 ***^(2), 0.794 ***^(2) less than the minimum in 2023. However, the ice extent had decreased by 0.432 ***^(2) compared with 2022. Nevertheless, the summer melting in 2023 was remarkably less than expected when considering the strong heat waves in the atmosphere and ocean, with record temperatures set around the world. in general, there is a high correlation between the long-term decrease in sea-ice extent and the increasing CO_(2) in the atmosphere, where the increase of CO_(2) in recent decades explains about 80% of the decrease in sea ice in September, while the remainder is caused by natural variability.

Despite serious effort,the nature of the magnetic interactions and the role of electron-correlation effects in magnetic twodimensional(2D)van der Waals materials remains *** Cri3 as a model system,we show that the calculated electronic structure including nonlocal electron correlations yields spin excitations consistent with inelastic neutron-scattering ***,this approach identifies an unreported correlation-enhanced interlayer super-superexchange,which rotates the magnon Dirac lines off,and introduces a gap along the high-symmetryΓ-K-M *** discovery provides a different perspective on the gap-opening mechanism observed in Cri3,which was previously associated with spin–orbit coupling through the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction or Kitaev *** observation elucidates the critical role of electron correlations on the spin ordering and spin dynamics in magnetic van der Waals materials and demonstrates the necessity of explicit treatment of electron correlations in the broad family of 2D magnetic materials.

Monolayer CrSBr is a recently discovered semiconducting spin-3/2 ferromagnet with a Curie temperature of around 146 *** contrast to many other known 2D magnets,the orthorhombic lattice of CrSBr gives rise to spatial anisotropy of magnetic excitations within the 2D *** magnetic anisotropy and considerable magnetic dipolar interactions in CrSBr challenge its theoretical description in terms of spin ***,we employ a Green’s function formalism combined with first-principles calculations to study the magnetic properties of monolayer CrSBr in different regimes of surrounding dielectric *** the free-standing limit,the system is close to an easy-plane magnet,whose long-range ordering is partially *** the contrary,in the regime of large external screening,monolayer CrSBr behaves like an easy-axis ferromagnet with more stable magnetic *** findings suggest that anisotropic layered magnets form a potentially promising platform for studying the effects of substrate screening on magnetic ordering in 2D.

Dodecagonal bilayer graphene quasicrystal has 12-fold rotational order but lacks translational symmetry which prevents the application of band *** this paper,we study the electronic and optical properties of graphene quasicrystal with large-scale tight-binding calculations involving more than ten million *** propose a series of periodic approximants which reproduce accurately the properties of quasicrystal within a finite unit *** utilizing the band-unfolding method on the smallest approximant with only 2702 atoms,the effective band structure of graphene quasicrystal is *** features,such as the emergence of new Dirac points(especially the mirrored ones),the band gap at M point and the Fermi velocity are all in agreement with recent *** properties of quasicrystal states are identified in the Landau level spectrum and optical ***,our results show that the lattice mismatch is the dominant factor determining the accuracy of layered *** proposed approximants can be used directly for other layered materials in honeycomb lattice,and the design principles can be applied for any quasi-periodic incommensurate structures.

When carrying out calculations for turbulent flow simulation,one inevitably has to face the choice between accuracy and speed of *** order to simultaneously obtain both a computationally efficient and more accurate model,a surrogate model can be built on the basis of some fast special model and knowledge of previous calculations obtained by more accurate base models from various test bases or some results of serial *** objective of this work is to construct a surrogate model which allows to improve the accuracy of turbulent calculations obtained by a special model on unstructured *** this purpose,we use 1D Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)of the encoder-decoder architecture and reduce the problem to a single dimension by applying space-filling *** an approach would have the benefit of being applicable to solutions obtained on unstructured *** this work,a non-local approach is applied where entire flow fields obtained by the special and base models are used as input and ground truth output ***-Allmaras(SA)model and Near-wall Domain Decomposition(NDD)method for SA are taken as the base and special models *** efficiency and accuracy of the obtained surrogate model are demonstrated in a case of supersonic flow over a compression corner with different values for angleαand Reynolds number *** conducted an investigation into interpolation and extrapolation by Re and also into interpolation byα.

Throughout human history, doctors and healers have gathered and refined the knowledge inherited from the previous generations. Different methods of effective therapy have been designed during various historical periods;when each was developed, it was considered "modern scientific medicine" for their time. Mankind has gone through natural and social disasters and survived;hence, history has proved there was no time when medical knowledge was eironeous or ineffective. Classic medicine has grown to be divided into narrow, specialized branches, causing it to lose its holistic approach and general view on health, sickness and therapeutic methods. Many of traditional medicine's effective methods have been forgotten and removed from the mainstream medicine. it would be good for modern medical education to incorporate the general knowledge of historically effective therapeutic modalities and study practical cases. Medical students should be taught how to choose a "good method" or "good medicine" independent of when that method or remedy was discovered. However, he has to keep in mind the primary goal of medicine:"i will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment..."(from Hippocratic Oath).

Cherenkov radiation by swift charged particles in a dielectric medium has been used for a long time as an effective means for particle detection and measurements of their *** a team led by *** Luo from Singapore considers a situation when the particle emits surface electromagnetic waves at the interface between an isotropic and a uniaxial-birefringent medium(Dyakonov surface waves6).The resulting Dyakonov-Cherenkov radiation is shown to be highly sensitive to both the value and the direction of the particle *** particular,it is shown that close to the Cherenkov threshold,the radiation intensity can be several orders of magnitude greater than that in traditional Qierenkov *** new features allow to determine simultaneously the magnitude and direction of particle velocities on a compact platform(Fig.1).
