Grid integration of wind power is essential to reduce fossil fuel usage but challenging in view of the intermittent nature of ***,we developed a hybrid Markovian and interval approach for the unit commitment and economic dispatch problem where power generation of conventional units is linked to local wind states to dampen the effects of wind ***,to reduce complexity,extreme and expected states are considered as interval *** this approach is effective,the fact that major wind farms are often located in remote locations and not accompanied by conventional units leads to conservative ***,weights of extreme and expected states in the objective function are difficult to tune,resulting in significant differences between optimization and simulation *** this paper,each remote wind farm is paired with a conventional unit to dampen the effects of wind uncertainties without using expensive utility-scaled battery storage,and extra constraints are innovatively established to model ***,proper weights are derived through a novel quadratic fit of cost *** problem is solved by using a creative integration of our recent surrogate Lagrangian relaxation and *** demonstrate modeling accuracy,computational efficiency,and significant reduction of conservativeness of the previous approach.

Geochemistry of Thermal Waters of Continental Margin of Far East of Russia

Studied waters belong to warm （T=30-50℃）, alkaline （pH=8.9-9.3）, low mineralized （TDS〈235 mg/l） Na-HCO3 or Na-SO4-HCO3 thermal waters with high content of SiO2 （up to 81 mg/1） and F （up to 3.9 mg/l）, occur on modern volcano-tectonic rejuvenated areas of Eastern Sikhote-Alin orogenic belt. Low 3He concentration as well as N2/O2 and N2/Ar ratios exclude influence of deep mantle fluid. New rare earth element data constrain our understanding of water-rock interaction occurring in the water source region. Meteoric origin of waters is proved by stable isotope values varying from -71%o to -136.1‰ and from -10.8‰ to -18.8%o for δ^2H and δ^18O respectively. REE patterns reflect high pH, resultfing from water-rock interaction and oxidative conditions. Calculations of deep aquifer temperature using Na-K and quartz geothermometers show 116.8-131.1℃ and 82.2-125.8℃ respectively. Presence of deep faults both with abnormal thermal gradient （-45- 50 K/km） define unique geochemical shape of thermal waters of Sikhote-Alin, area, where no present volcanic activity is registered.

Type 2 immune response has been shown to facilitate cold-induced thermogenesis and browning of white fat. However, whether alternatively activated macrophages produce catecholamine and substantially promote adaptive thermogenesis in adipose tissue remains controversial. Here, we show that tyrosine hydroxylase CryrH）, a rate-limiting enzyme of catecholamine biosynthesis, was expressed and phosphorylated in adipose-resident macrophages. In addition, the plasma level of adrenaline was increased by cold stress in mice, and treatment of macrophages with adrenaline stimulated phosphorylation of CaZ＋/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II （CaMKII） and TyrH. Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of CaMKII or PKA signaling diminished adrenaline- induced phosphorylation of TyrH in primary macrophages. Consistently, overexpression of constitutively active CaMKII upregulated basal TyrH phosphorylation, while suppressing the stimulatory effect of adrenaline on TyrH in macrophages. Myeioid-specific dis- ruption of CaMKIIy suppressed both the cold-induced production of norepinephrine and adipose UCP1 expression in vivo and the stimulatory effect of adrenaline on macrophage-dependent activation of brown adipocytes in vitro. Lack of CaMKII signaling attenu- ated catecholamine production mediated by cytokines IL-4 and IL-13, key inducers of type 2 immune response in primary macro- phages. Taken together, these results suggest a feedforward mechanism of adrenaline in adipose-resident macrophages, and that myeloid CaMKII signaling plays an important role in catecholamine production and subsequent beige fat activation.

A groundwater radon monitoring in the southern and western part of Sakhalin Island was carried out in 2014 in order to study the correlation between radon anomalies and the seismic activity of the region. The objects of investigations were located within large tectonic dislocations of the island—the southern part of the Central Sakhalin fault and the central part of the West Sakhalin fault. The soil gas monitoring was carried out using a Sirad probe (Quarta-Rad, Russia) and the continuous radon monitoring in the groundwater was carried out using a Radon Seismic Station (CPC-05, NTM-Zashita, Russia). The effect of geochemical parameters, namely, temperature, pressure and conductivity on the radon emission has been studied. The present work contains an analytical protocol which is based on the analysis of radon emitted from the fault planes, a geo- chemical precursor when predicting the tectonic activity.

Background: In the past we have shown the preservation and improvement of cognitive tasks in depressed and demented patients after 24 and 36 months of combined pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment. Here we present the results of our ongoing, naturalistic study, in the same outpatient setting, at 60 month follow up. Materials and Methods: The study group consisted of 156 medically ill, physically disabled patients with mild to moderate dementia and depression. Patients were treated with antidepressants, cholinesterase inhibitors, and NMDA antagonists, along with their regular medication regimen. Non-pharmacological intervention was centered on a home-based program of physical and cognitive exercises paired with vitamins and supplements (multivitamins, vitamin E, L-methylfolate, alphalipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine, omega-3, and coenzyme Q-10) and diet modification. Cognitive assessments were performed yearly. Results: After 60 months of treatment, performance of all tasks remained at or above baseline. The MMSE, Cognistat-Attention, Cognistat-Judgment, and RFFT-Total Unique Designs demonstrated significant improvement. Conclusion: Our results, for the first time, demonstrate arrest in cognitive decline in demented/depressed patients with multiple medical co-morbidities for 60 months. Future investigations addressing the application of a combined, integrative treatment model are warranted.

This study presents new chemical and isotopic data on the two types of cold high pCO2 groundwaters located in the Mukhen deposit (Far East of Russia). The first type belongs to HCO3-Ca-Mg waters with a relatively low TDS (up to 1.7 g/l) and high concentrations of Fe2+, Mn2+, Ba2+, and SiO2. The second type is of HCO3-Na water with high TDS (up to 14 g/l) and elevated Li+, B, Sr2+, Br?, and I?. New isotopic data of water (δ18O, δD and 3H) and gas (δ13CTIC) phases along with a detailed geological and hydrogeological investigation of the study area allowed identifying genesis of both the mineral waters. The residence time of groundwaters were calculated as well. It was established that the origin of the high pCO2 groundwaters was caused by active faulting and CO2 venting in the subsurface zone.
