In Papilionoideae legume, Lotusjaponic.s, the development of dorsal-ventral （DV） asymmetric.flowers is mainly c.ntrolled by two TB1/c.c.OIDEA/Pc. （Tc.） genes, SQUARED STANDARD （SQU） and KEELED WINGS IN LOTUS （KEW）, whic. determine dorsal and lateral identities, respec.ively. However, the molec.lar basis of how these two highly homologous genes orc.estrate their diverse func.ions remains unc.ear. Here, we analyzed their expression levels, and investigated the transc.iptional ac.ivities of SQUand KEW. We demonstrated that SQU possesses both ac.ivation and repression ac.ivities, while KEW ac.s only as an ac.ivator. They form homo- and heterodimers, and then c.llaboraUvely regulate their expression at the transc.iption level. Furthermore, we identified two types of post-transc.iptional modific.tions, phosphor- ylation and ATP/GTP binding, both of whic. c.uld affec. their transc.iptional ac.ivities. Mutations in ATP/ GTP binding motifs of SQU and KEW lead to failure of phosphorylation, and transgenic.plants bearing the mutant proteins display defec.ive DV asymmetric.flower development, indic.ting that the two c.njugate modific.tions are essential for their diverse func.ions. Altogether, SQU and KEW ac.ivities are prec.sely modulated at both transc.iption and post-transc.iption levels, whic. might link DV asymmetric.flower development to different physiologic.l status and/or signaling pathways.

Urologic.l Affec.ions after Laparosc.pic.Hernia Repair in Long-Term Follow up

Objec.ives: c.ronic.pain is a severe c.mplic.tion of mesh-based inguinal hernia repair. Pain upon ejac.lation, testic.lar touc. sensitivity and dysuria are apparent. Regarding the large amount of patients undergoing laparosc.pic.hernia repair, the problem seems quite evident. In this prospec.ive, c.inic.l, randomized, double-blind study we intended to investigate the bioc.mpatibility of three different meshes and their influenc. on urologic.l affec.ions after operative proc.dure. Methods: 180 male patients with primary inguinal hernia undergoing TAPP were randomized for using a heavyweight (108 g/m2), double-filament PP mesh (Prolene, 10 9 15 c., group A, n = 60), a multifilament, heavyweight variant (116 g/m2) of PP mesh (Serapren, 10 9 15 c., group B, n = 60), or a c.mposite mesh (polyglac.in and PP) (Vypro II, 10 9 15 c., group c. n = 60). We c.mpared in terms of c.mplic.tions (seromas, rec.rrenc. rate), urologic.l affec.ions and life quality (SF-36 Health Survey). The follow-up period was 60 months. Results: c.nvalesc.nc. in group A was slower than in groups B and c. mean-term values of the visual sc.les for pain development were signific.ntly (p th week postoperatively. There were no signific.nt differenc.s between groups B and c. Beyond the 12th post-interventional week the differenc.s diminished. c.nc.usions: Independent whic. kind of mesh was implanted still 5% of patients suffered from urologic.l affec.ions 60 month later.

Nine mic.oorganisms were isolated from four varieties of Diosc.rea rotundata (gbongu, ogoja, Amula, Hembamkwase);four bac.eria, Erwinia c.rotovora, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marc.sc.ns, Klebsiella oxytoc. and five fungi, Rhizopus stolonifera, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium oxysporum, Penic.llium marneffei, from five loc.l government areas of Benue State (Vandeikya, Ukum, Katsina Ala, Guma and Logo). Pathogenic.ty test on the isolates c.nfirmed them to be the c.use of rot. The nine plants extrac. (c.iba pentandra, Jatropha tanjorensis, Azadirac.ta indic., Moringa oleifera, c.ric. papaya, Mangifera indic., Daniella oliveri, Terminalia c.tapa and Passiflora edulis) synergistic.lly added inhibited all the four bac.eria isolates c.mpletely. The five fungi were inhibited by 60% (c. - 80% (b);Rhizopus stolonifera, Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium oxysporum;and Aspergillus niger, Penic.llium marneffei, respec.ively.
